I think the reason why he is the most successful Spanish speaking singer of all time, is, not only the professional quality of his productions, but also the fact that, although he’s not the best singer around, he is the best using his expressive range, specially to evoke sadness, melancholy, romanticism, and nostalgia. He really knows how to hit that nail.
He may not have the BIGGEST voice around, but he certainly is one of the best singers ever to have graced popular music. Julio Iglesias is one of the most successful artists to ever exist on the planet. He has sold over 300 million records and has 2,600 gold and platinum discs and is the most successful Spanish-speaking singer of all time. He is in the Guinness book of World records, at one time having sold more records than any other singer, and for having sung in more languages than any other singer. Julio is a romantic, and his style is almost minimalist, but his phrasing, his perfect pitch, his melodious tones and innate ability to express what he is FEELING about what he is saying, is what makes him great. His voice, though light, is very appealing and attractive in its timbre and never grating to the ear. Ever. His songs will remain forever and as proof of that, he is in a handful of singers who continue to actually sell their albums to younger generations - ABBA, Neil Diamond, being the other two main ones. There is also Elvis and Elton and possibly a few others. And… over any other singer, popular or operatic, only Julio Iglesias can draw out the emotions he can, the way he lingers in syllables and words. That is his alone. He remains the most sensitive singer to cross our paths, the next closest being his countryman, tenor Jose Carreras. So, no. Julio Iglesias is one of the best singers around.
I'm a 90's kid, and my mother used to put a tape with his songs on when I was going to bed. Thanks to her I still can sing along to some of his songs without knowing any Spanish or Portugese :) His caressing tone really makes you feel loved and it is perfect to gently drift asleep to. Love his voice. Love and miss you a lot, Mom.
Beth - you GET Julio Iglesias. Excellent analysis. Thank you. 🎉 Btw - it’s over 300 Million records he’s sold and more than 2,600 gold and platinum records. The ultimate messenger of romance and feeling, never overdoes it - that’s why he’s so brilliant at what he does. His rendition of Vincent (Starry, Starry Night) is gorgeous and totally evoking. It’s worth the listen. 😊
I'm a long-time Julio Iglesias fan and had never heard him do this cover. Thank you! I love hearing him sing in any language, whether I understand the words or not. So glad you have finally discovered him!
He's known for his vibrato, but I was listening here for any straight tones and I heard perhaps half of his notes with no vibrato. That's one of his secrets. As you say, he does not "over do" anything.
In the States, he is best known for his duet with Willie Nelson of "To All the Girls I've Loved Before" It was all over country music radio, went to number one on the country charts and I believe it won awards from both the CMA (Country Music Association) and ACM (Academy of Country Music). So as odd as it might sound, here a lot of people associate him with country music.
He has been one of my favorites for decades. His singing is so moving, romantic. I had several of his LPs in the mid-1980s. You should check out his "Abracame" (I think he has a Spanish and a Portuguese version).
I had no idea what a fabulous singer he was. Ha ha. Thank you for making this video. He surprised me with his raspy voice toward the end and his wailing away. I thought he would keep it simple and subtle. There’s obviously a lot of tools in his toolbox. I love his playing with dynamics as well, and his phrasing and the way he would pitch some of his notes higher.
I always thought he wasn't a good singer, or at least considered his voice as old fashioned and for old folks (like Camilo Sesto). But thanks to this channel I learned their values and technical details of their voices and of course : what makes them, them 😎👍.

Hello Beth...!!! Hope you are well... Thankyou for sharing your amazing knowledge and information about amazingly famous people/singers & letting us know what we have no idea about how they sing and what it's all about... Love you❤❤❤... Take care & stay safe...
Hi Beth, I haven't heard him sing in English all that much and he is a master. To do him justice, react to Caruso in Spanish, will give you chills. Nice reaction
The thing I ( lack of better words ) hate about ones that over do the songs or try to make it powerful or so... to me music is like comedy. I do both sing and do comedy and the similarly of both is the delivery and how real you make it. I love your videos and helpful advice you give to inspiring singers.
Wow, This brings back so much memories growing up. My parents listen to him all the time, i think they have every cd of him. I’m 42 now and after listen to this song it make me want to go out and purchase one of his cd. Thank you for reacting this song. Good stuff. By the way we are Asian
My favourite song by him is 'La carretera'. It's sad but so beautiful and touching! Could u react to these two amazing artists singing together the song 'Arrancame live/directo'? These two artists are Vanessa Martín and India Martínez. BELIEVE me when I tell you that you'll get goosebumps because they hit that song with Spanish unique passion, pain and feeling. Great reaction dear! Go on like this! Hehe.
If you like the song, listen to the original by Leo Sayer. If you like Julio, listen to his duet "To All the Girls I've Loved Before" with Willie Nelson. Then go on to the spoof of that song that he did on the Tonight Show with Johnny Carson -- priceless, especially the line "To all the girls who shared my life... who now are someone else's wife" (Johnny was married and divorced several times).
Goodness, you're just beautiful...first. I've been a fan a while. Julio has been my heartthrob since I was 16, 17 years old? Please check out his "album" 1100 Bel Air Place." All of the songs are incredible. His duets with Willie Nelson and Diana Ross are magical, but there is one on there that makes me so happy. "Moonlight Lady." I think you will enjoy him, even more, when you hear this "album." Thank you for being AMAZING!!!
If you have missed Devin Townsend, please check him out. Either the song "kingdom" or "deadhead". Both great songs. One, the first is available at EMG TC and is epic.
Beth, as an idea for a future video you might want to look at a country singer & song writer named Colter Wall. He has an incredible voice for his age and has made some great music. Highly recommend “The Devil where’s a suite and tie”. This guy could Very well become the next Johnny Cash.
Hi Beth I want to introduce you to a great Italian artist and singer who unfortunately left us 16 years ago. It was called Giuni Russo. You will not regret. Its magical vocal range will leave you breathless. I recommend songs like Babilonia, Una vipera sarò, Crisi Metropolitana o Un estate al mare ... but also completely different songs like La sua figura o Morirò d'amore. Thank you🙏
Beth Roars can you please do a video of Ville Valo? Lead singer of H.I.M., I think he has such an amazing voice and not alot of people ever got to experience it because their band never really took off. Wings of the Butterfly was the only song I ever heard on the radio and it didnt get alot of playtime at that. Thanks =)
Julio is the BEST! Can I ask you a question? You as a vocal coach might know the answer to this.. can anyone learn to sing or is it a talent that only some people have? I personally believe in talents.
Please check out Bitter Ruin!! I discovered them recently. Nobody on youtube has reacted to them. Her vocal range is blue-alien-from-the-fith-element-level-crazy!!

Hello Beth! I would love for you to react/review "culling voices" by TOOL. I love all your previous reacts to their songs, but I can't help thinking you're not really getting a good sample of what Maynard can do. and he really shows off his vocal prowess in this song, I think you would enjoy the way he adapts his lyrics to the melody as well. anyway I love all the videos not just the tool reacts. keep it up!
"He doesn't overdo it"... that must be the first time ever anyone says that about Julio Iglesias!! (He is great, sure, but he tends to "overdo it" so much so that sometimes he sounds like a parody of himself. Although, to be fair, here he is quite constrained compared to other performances)
