I was driving back from Sante Fe New Mexico in the winter of 1979 with someone I loved. It was very early in the morning, probably an hour from daybreak and it was very cold outside. @@reneleclerc6119 Those are mostly from hardcore Glen Campbell fans, who have knowledge about his career and his talents. To most people, Glen Campbell was an excellent singer who usually strummed chords on an acoustic guitar while he sang. She wanted to get some good photos of him, so she asked me to come with her while she took some photos up front near the boxing ring. I remember her taking my hand and walking down the aisle, and near the ring, she started to take some photos. Anyhow, as my mom was standing there, Glen stopped between songs and said "Go ahead honey, I'll hold still for you." That moment really made her happy, and forever since has let me to admire his kindness.

As teenager I love the way Glen Campbell sang. When my mom heard Glen Campbell sing she said that she like the way he sang. My mother didn't understand english but he like him. She had good taste lol. Yes he won't be forgotten. My mom passed away 1971 they are both gone but I still remember my mom saying that he had a good voice. 😊

Probably one of the most subtle love songs ever written. I love the song as did my late dad, who passed last year he caught the virus. He loved Glens music and was always whistling. He introduced me to this song, to be honest if they play this at my funeral I will be a happy soul. I started guitar lessons when I was 12, a lot of the inspiration came from hearing Glen's records. I miss both of those good men - Glen and my dad Maurice.

This song reminds me of my partner of 32years...he was a linesman....he would pick me up and take me for road trips fixing broken lines and replacing light bulbs on overhead street lamps...I'm still in love with him today as I was when I first met him💖
Hello👋 sheree. How are you doing? Hope you’re fine. I’m Mark Clifford and am from Denver Colorado. Where are you from? You seem like a real country girl
Well. He won at life.
May God bless you both
ABSOLUTELY A GOLDEN MASTERPIECE!
This particular song never fails to transport me back to the good ole 70s and keeps that magical definitive sound in perpetuality.
At 15 I wore out my 45 of Wichita Lineman I loved the song so much. Here I am at 70 and it still moves me. A beautiful song written by Jimmy Webb and sung perfectly by Glen Campbell. ❤
beautiful. I bought Webb's " Letters" album in a bargain bin in 1974 for $1.99.! I've been a die-hard fan ever since!
This song is just so ... evocative and winsome - longing, that's what I feel
I've been hearing this song in my head for days thinking of all the linemen working to restore power to all the victims of Helene and Milton. God bless these heros.
I watched the Goodtime Hour when new, I was a child during the era. Glen was a good singer. I've been to Wichita more than once.
The orchestration on this song is unmatched. Absolutely beautiful lyric and melody.
Wow. Just. Wow. No matter what I listen to, there is always Glen Campbell waiting in the wings. Great way to unwind and so much talent.
The greatest song ever written by one of the master composers --Jimmy Webb!
Absolutely
Thankyou both for the kind words!
+1, He authored the most hauntingly beautiful lyrics and melodies ever
One of a handful of ELITE ARTISTS the world has ever seen! Bob Dylan says this is the greatest lyrics and song performed by Campbell ! Pretty good praise ❤️❤️❤️✌️
Correction: he said it’s the greatest song ever written. Period.
I wouldn't go that far
57 years old and I remember asking my father to buy this record for me back in the early 70s, I still have it to this day. Beautiful song and voice.
The trio A Girl Named Tom sang this song on The Voice and they were perfection. Glen would have been proud.
One thing l noticed is that the audience sat quiet and respectful to hear this lovely song. These days whenever someone sings the audience seems to yell and scream through the whole performance. Thanks to Glen Campbell for such a timeless classic.
So what about Beatlemania and Elvis?
@@jeppelepsi1 that was the beginning of the group participation concerts. I hated it. I came to see and hear the band not their drunk out of tune version screamed in my ear.
I have always loved this song from a child and I am now 66 years
64 sista🎉
I’m so lucky to have gotten to listen to all of these wonderful songs on the radio when they were hits!
I am 77 years old n always will love his music
Hello Maryann..
Nothing like a Glen Campbell song. To me, his music brings back memories and is a part of my life.
he has a wonderful voice and is the most briliirant instrumentalist...
INDEED!
I couldn't agree more George Vreeland Hill...it brings back sweet memories for me as well. Wes Hill...no relation!
nancy peck I was working running power into a new hospital my foreman was a Latin guy from Puerto Rico he loved this song I used to sing my own words to him and the Porta Rican electrician is still on the line he used to laugh and sing along the little white electrician is still on the line I hope Louie is still going strong was a good guy treated me like a brother never docked me for coming in late almost everyday and if I didn't come in and super didn't make it to the job he'd put me in for the time he always used to say be sure to bring your radio in tomorrow so we can listen to some tunes back then the a.m. stations played Rock soul country folk music all on the same show now everything is pigeonholed in different stations too bad
Yes indeed, I really believe that we were blessed to have experienced those days I miss them now more than ever before.🤔
The great Jimmy Webb wrote this timeless classic. Only Glen could have pulled off such brilliance. Saw this live when it was aired.
I feel privileged to have lived during such great music
I had the pleasure of growing up down the street from Mr. Campbell for 17 years, when I joined he Army as a 12Q (Power Distribution) he showed up for my graduation in August of 2011, needless to say our instructors were beyond ecstatic, he passed four days after I secured a DOE gig as a Public Utilities Specialist in Colorado, sweetest person you’d ever meet, Rest In Peace Mr. C!!
Country music lives on , Jean and I were married in 1969, Glen Campbell was always on the radio, all our married lives Glen was always there. Glen Campbell will live on in his music and song. What a Legend.
Every man can relate to this masterpiece and the hope that the one they love is still on the wire.Hay when I'm at my lowest I listen to the wire and somehow I can climb that pole again.Magical song rest in piece Glen

My husband was a lineman. He was 23, I was 17...we lived on the prairies...a long time ago now.
I must've heard this song 50 years ago as a kid and in the 70's...one of my favorites!
I'm 56 years old and this song reminds me of my father
Reminds me of my Mum
“and if it snows, that stretch down south won’t ever stand the strain”. What an awesome line. 👏🏻👏🏻
Thankyou Mollie!
Thankyou Mollie!
IM 74 years old and its till one my top 5 songs of all time. Thanks Glenn.
In 1969, when that song came out I was a lineman for the phone company. Since we were all from Victorville we renamed the song the Victorville lineman. It fits.
When I hear this song I think about my brothers which were long distance truck drivers. Rest in peace to Glen & my brothers#3
No one ever tried to emulate the vocal style. Such perfect diction. Throw in the brilliant guitar work and those sublime lyrics its why evolution created ears
What an arrangement! This can make a grown man cry. So touching & beautiful. RIP Glen
The best of my childhood. Loved this frigging song!! I felt as a child I was right there beside him. Classic. He was an outstanding performer.
I was 9 years old when this was playing in our triumph herald convertible in 1969 ❤ unforgettable. Dad playing it.
Just beautiful and it never ages...
I am 59 and still go back to my old days as a child. Songs of today will never be the same as in those days.
Hello👋 Maria. How are you doing? Hope you’re fine. I’m Mark Clifford and am from Denver Colorado. Where are you from? You seem like a real country girl
I'm 58...used to watch this with my dad in the 60s. Glen Campbell's attitude in this song perfectly encapsulates my dad's love for my mom...thank you Glen Campbell, for what your music meant to my father.
1 of the few country songs my dad ❤s
....Loved....
Wichita Lineman, Galveston, By the Time I Get to Phoenix. Jimmy Webb I'll always love you.
Another favorite of Webb's sung by Glen was "The Everyday Housewife".
He would have been almost 84 years old. I can remember back in the mid 60s when he looked so young.... Unreal
My god.my family never missed the good time hour.i.was a kid but I loved him what a great man.i hope he's with god now and still singing
My dad and his dad were both journeymen lineman.. makes me tear up how much they miss.. I i love you Dad!
a true classic, he was incredible and his show was great on television
"And I need you more than want you" such a lovely line in his song ❤
Why does this song make me cry every time I hear it? I just don't know. It must be the way Glenn sings it...God bless you lovely man.
Makes me cry a little, too
Besides the distinctive voice and great guitar work...that line "I need you more than want you..." is the best line in any song I have ever heard. Thank you Mr.Campbell and Mr.Webb.
I search every person who ever tried to cover this song, but it always brings me back to Glen Campbell. My father taught me this song when I was about 12 years old he could sing the crap out of it and he taught me how to play it then I learned how to sing itRIP Pops thank you so much and also to you, Mr. Glenn Campbell RIP, sir
From Miss Donna Marie Baff (dons)
I grew up with this track,
Ta, and love you both mum and dad.
Joe's brother had the privilege to see Glen Campbell play live, including the opportunity to sing with an ailing man.
Dr Geoffrey Hinton (Cherry) for the Professor Albert Einstein medal of achievement award for your outstanding contribution to
Mind and Life/Science and Philosophy.
Glen and Laura are both present in my world
Thank you
I do not like country music at all. But I can listen to Glen Campbell all day. I truly wish I had the opportunity to see him in concert. His music will live on for many generations past him. God bless him and his loved ones during these last hard times of his life.
Bill Young, I remember him when I was a little kid. My aunt would play his music on the stereo. I'm a fan now too!
He was as much folk as country.
I saw Glenn in 1964...he was in the backing band for Ray Peterson (Corrina Corrina, Tell Laura I love Her). I never heard of Glenn but Peterson introduced him and called him, “Mr. Twelve String.” Glenn played an instrumental and returned to the back line.
His Sioux Falls concert is available on DVD and still stands the test of time.
Here's a non country remake of this song - more disco ua-cam.com/video/5x7VNTXi6WM/v-deo.html
My favorite Glen Campbell song!!! I love it!!
Mine too, Janice...
I've got to say rhinestone cowboy though this is a very close second
Mine too. Makes me sad. Probably because hes gone now. I think I had this 45 when i was a teenager back in the late 60's.
Galvestons sorta good too
I love this song too . This is a classic
Absolute perfection. Glen was a master. His vocals: superb! His guitar work....always effortless. I miss this level of song writing brilliance.
You know this song Witchita Lineman will still be playing throughout the test of time 🎶🎶🎶 😇😇😇
So effortlessly....beautiful...
Glen Campbell was genuinely modest but a brilliant musician, unlike so many of the music celebrities of today. I hesitate to call them "musicians."
