The thing on the front of the van is a UHF CB two way radio antenna. Either it has a radio on board or the option to have one installed.
Apart from a good sleeping bag and some good insulating material under it, a trick to stay warmer is to buy a few hand warmers or body warmers (like "HotHands", from Coles or a pharmacy). You just tear open the plastic wrapper and the little pouches inside will start to warm up in minutes and stay fairly toasty for about 8 hours. The chemistry is fairly simple; mainly just very fine iron powder inside the pouch which reacts with the air to produce a gentle heat.
Nice clip. Have a great time travelling.
Hey Tacit, that makes sense! I did think it could be an antenna but thought it was too big, thanks for the info.
Also that’s a great tip about the hand warmers!
you have to be double equipped with bedding there. i used a blanket on the matress,
a -10 sleeping bag and a doona. plus a hot water bottle ,if that not available a hot rock from the fire wrapped in a towel.
You need a good thick feather down duvet. A synthetic blanket just won’t keep you warm enough ❄️❄️❄️❄️❄️
You could use the gas burners as a heater for a bit to warm up the van, thats what i had been doing for years in my caravan before i got my diesel heater. id not leave it run all night, as it might chew the oxygen up, but its great for 10 mins before you go to bed, and great in the morning when you get up..
i used to camp there for 10 days every year in winter. great spot.
Hi. Vaseline for fire starting. I have a ryobi 18 volt resiplicating saw. Puning blade. Get a library card. Borrow box. Audiobooks. Have a look, Kendall and Glenn coffee machine. Do 1 and 2 in your toilet. It help with back smell. I use bamboo paper. It backs down quick. Get the uhf it helps with large trucks. Check trip in a van, big Oz Explorer, sparky on the loose.
Yep it gets soo cold up in the Blue Mountains during winter! Those look like kangaroos to me, but I didn’t get a close look. The bell birds are only found in certain areas, you’re lucky to have struck them! I’ve never seen a koala in the wild in 50 years in Australia but I’m sure you’ll see other wildlife. Have fun!
Used to go camping there back in the 80’s. Roads were a lot worse then but made it in an old Bedford van. No facilities then , toilets or benches. There was an old pub right at the end of the dirt road which had closed down but a great place for a party. Always very cold but sitting on a big log with another half a log burning in a pit , courtesy of a bit of petrol kept everyone warm. 🤗🤗
To make a Fire ..make Indian tent shape out of lots of dry thin sticks and leaves and bark and paper then light it add medium sicks when they light add bigger sticks ..then logs ..start off big 2 or 3 ft high it will quickly burn down so add to it.
Lol, it does get cold there, worked at that minesite just before the drop into the valley for 39yrs, some nights saw -10c. Diesel heaters are a must in the central tablelands and blue mtns in winter, safe travels

Get a tyre repair kit, and air compressor check sparkys on the loose video. Two max trax. Crystal deodorant for mozzie bits. A spray bottle, old cheap beer, Epson salts and mouth wash. Spray you area. Feel good family video. Usb dehumidifer. Russell
Enjoyed , thanks, guys
Thanks Bev!
We camped there, and froze, we had ice on the inside of the tent on the roof, it was so cold.
Hearing lots of Bell Birds :)
Oh cool! We weren’t sure what birds they were 😊
Also around that area is a glow worm cave
@@YobboBear we did see that but unfortunately it was closed due to the heavy rainfall and landslides! Would have been cool to see.
