I don't know why people hate this version of Radiohead. They're young, dumb, fun, energetic and don't take themselves too seriously. They capture everything about the innocents of youth in your early 20s before life really kicks in. And do it all while sounding amazing. The Verve were the same, check out their performances from Chicago Metro 1993 or Frankfurt 1994. Just young fellas with a free uncorrupted mind making awesome music.
Great. As usual my remarks were just censored, "disappeared " by the cowards and pigs. So one more time: I think those hating material from the Bends are dead wrong, wrong about the band, wrong about life: youth is not merely shallow, in fact all to often the opposite , if youth is understood to go through the 30s, which for those living all the way on, it is: this is the time of greatest intellectual curiosity and exploration, of emotive and sexual intensity, of passion, powers, extremity, daringness; by middle age all too often, the intellect is shut down in the service of money, the sex drive poisoned or gelded by exhaustion, conformity, or mental injuries from a society ill with sadomasochistic and puritanical morals, and a general lapse into blobishness, and dullard-ry. Songs like Iron Lung, High and Dry signify this band and that stage of life at its best: passionate, pensive, radical, erotic, critical, melancholic or even tragic, yet also euphoric and in the highest mental state of love and intellect. While the band's later work can be sublime --- I think ALL I NEED may be the greatest abd most apt love song of the 21st Century, much of it lacks the power and intensity of the three albums . But whatever, it is all only taste and only living...
