These islands are not disputed according the international law. The nearest part of China is nearly 700 miles from this shoal. A quick look at a map will show how absolutely ridiculous China's claims to the area are.
The Hague in 2016 ruled in favor of the Philippines 200 miles EEZ but never ruled who owns the islands in the disputed South China Seas. It is actually Vietnam that occupies the most islands and features in the disputed South China Seas.
We have got to stop calling it the South China Sea. This is literally the territorial waters of other countries. It's like calling Fort Lauderdale's beaches part of the "West French Sea".

China will think it is still contested area. That's why they will beef up their navy presence over there to lay claim on it. Look at Taiwan kinmen. Hence everyone must support the claim by phillipines or else china will continue their aggression behaviour in south china sea
if China successfully claimed this sea, the whole world will be affected economically and there will be no stopping them from claiming other territories, including the whole Pacific Ocean.
To be honest, It's somewhat hard to believe that they're just trying to claim it solely due to flexing territorial "ownership" based on historical facts or whatnot. But the fact that over the years they're able to quickly build various military installations means there is an ulterior motive to their actions. Could be that for the most part, they're slowly trying to expand their military grasp in both sea and land just like the US has almost a global reach in terms of moving their military around via forward bases on foreign territory. So yeah, it both to boost their Economy further tby control the sea lanes and in turn being able to expand their military control. Guess their territorial tug-of-war with India isn't going smoothly so they're out trying different options. At least that's how it looks like based on how long this territorial dispute is going for the past decade or so. Hopefully it doesn't escalate to an armed conflict like in Ukraine or in the Middle East. A war breaking out within the area of important shipping lanes would cripple logistics and eventually severely impact supply chains. We already have pirates to worry about. We don't need to worry about more bullies at sea. If we're already greedy like this on Earth when it comes to territory, what more if finally be able to travel into space? Tho the way the world is right now anyway, we might be doomed to meet our end right here on Earth.
correction those are not international waters they are deeply inside of the Philippines exclusive economic zone An “exclusive economic zone,” or “EEZ” is an area of the ocean, generally extending 200 nautical miles (230 miles) beyond a nation's territorial sea, within which a coastal nation has jurisdiction over both living and nonliving resources.
The Philippines should have more mutual defense treaties like those with France, the UK, and Australia. One country alone may not be able to support a large military, but by collaborating and combining forces with other countries, it can become more powerful than a single country with a large, unsustainable military.
China is guarding and enforcing sovereignty over the islands, shoals and reefs in South China Sea because Philippines constantly tries to take them. The Philippines currently occupies 11 islands, shoals, etc., in South China Sea. These were originally under Republic of China/Taiwan’s administration. They were seized by Philippines from ROC/Taiwan when it was too weak to defend from Philippines and pressure from the US. For example, Philippines seized Taiwan’s Zhongye Dao/Thitu Island during a storm when Taiwan’s troop temporarily relocated to nearby Taiping Island for safety. Philippines keeps trying to take Huangyan Island/Scarborough Shoal and Rén'ài Reef/Second Thomas Shoal by purposely shipwrecking the Sierra Madre as an outpost, and tries to transport construction material to the illegally shipwrecked Sierra Madre for reinforcement on-site or near it. China is guarding them and enforcing sovereignty over them because Philippines constantly tries to steal them.
People should realize that Philippine uses deadly force on others. It’s the Philippine Coast Guard that had shot to death a Taiwanese fisherman in 2013 in the near Taiping Island which is an island administered by Taiwan. Also, Philippines also stole Taiwan’s Zhongye Dao/Thitu Island during a storm. China has not shoot to death anyone over the incidents between China and Philippines. Also, two Vietnamese fishermen died in 2017 in a tragic incident with the Philippine Navy. So, Philippine is the one that's been provoking others--especially China recently. Philippine is the aggressive, hostile bully in disguise.

The philpine cost guard fire the engine to stop but unfortunately 1 t aiwanese hit its un intentional the cost guard is in jail after tje incident. The reporter clearly is wrong when he says it's under an international waterway when the location of the boat to which he is riding is still under the exclusive economic zone of the Philippines because it is clearly under the Philippines jurisdiction and not the Chinese. The Chinese clearly are bullies showing that kind of force to the Philippines' ships which are much smaller and are of fewer numbers.
The Philippines, being just a few nautical miles from its Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ), requires fewer resources to patrol, while China has to spend more time and resources. The Philippines just needs to be persistent, and eventually, with China's worsening economy and decoupling it could collapse like the USSR.

The actions by China are those of enforcing sovereignty over the islands, shoals, reefs, etc., because Philippines keeps trying to take them. China’s enforcement procedures are not aggressive or bullying. Philippines is really the one that uses aggressive/bullying, hostile and deadly forces against other countries’ fishermen (Taiwan, Vietnam, China) especially back in the 60’s and 70’s, during and after they seized the islands and shoals from ROC/Taiwan. They shoot to kill, did onboard searches, arrested fishermen, seized fishermen’s boats and rammed their boats. However, China has not caused any fatality over the incidents between China and Philippines. The Philippines, during the 60’s and 70’s, have forcefully seized and occupied 11 islands, shoals, reefs, etc., which included Zhongye Dao. These were originally under ROC/Taiwan’s administration. 😂😂 Philippines is small country. This is simple logic, if you want to bully someone, who will you choose ? Will you choose to bully the big and strong? Or you will choose to bully smaller. How could you bully someone who's stronger than you?
Providing a comprehensive perspective and an accurate evaluation of the situation is essential. It's important to understand that no country or nation on Earth has exclusive ownership of an entire sea or ocean, except within their jurisdictional nautical distances from the coastline and Exclusive Economic Zones (EEZs) as provided by the UNCLOS. Remember, China willingly committed to adhere to this principle when it signed voluntarily the UNCLOS on December 10, 1982. The term "South China Sea" doesn't signify ownership by China, just as the Gulf of Mexico isn't owned by Mexico, the Sea of Japan isn't owned by Japan, and the Indian Ocean isn't owned by India. These are directional references on maps for navigation and travel purposes. Justifying historical claims over entire seas, oceans or other territories at present is not only threatening and dangerous but also lacks both logical and legal basis in the existing context of established current international relations or situations. Additionally, validating past territorial claims may prompt other nations to assert similar claims over presently occupied territories that are protected by existing international laws, potentially jeopardizing global peace. For instance, Turkey would claim territories like Bulgaria, Armenia, Serbia, Bosnia, Lebanon, Jordan…etc. based on historic claims under the Ottoman Empire. And Mongolia could also claim all of China from the historic Mongolian Empire under Kublai Khan. Furthermore, there could be conflicting territorial claims depending on the historical period when such claims are acknowledged-whether during the Medieval period, Renaissance, Early Modern Period, or potentially extending back to the Paleolithic Period. This is why recognizing such historical claims today poses risks within the framework of present international laws, conditions and circumstances. Just to emphasize, one of the significant factors leading to the Ukraine war stems from Russian President Vladimir Putin's statement in February 2022 that Ukraine lacks historical grounds for independent statehood, as he claimed modern Ukraine was entirely shaped by Russia. An obvious historical claim by Putin which lacks solid factual basis in historical reality. Moreover, granting China or any country the authority to claim almost an entire sea runs counter to established laws like those articulated in the UNCLOS, to which China voluntarily allowed itself to be bound by its principles when it ratified the UNCLOS effectively on June 07, 1996. This reality exposes China’s reputation and character regarding adherence to international laws that governs relations among nations. It’s no surprise why China stands alone in its claim, with no global support whatsoever for its assertion over the South China Sea. No country supports China not even from its own strategic partners like Russia, Pakistan or North Korea. These countries may have also surmised about the principle that no single nation could truly claim exclusive ownership of a vast sea or ocean. And this clear zero support for China remains consistent, even if China's deputy permanent representative to the United Nations, Geng Shuang, emphasized that freedom of navigation will be respected even if China asserts sovereignty over the South China Sea. The ongoing patriotic defense by the Philippines to safeguard its EEZ in the West Philippine Sea should genuinely be a global concern. Permitting China's expansive claims could set a precedent for other nations to follow, endangering established maritime practices, decrees, and protocols worldwide. In the words of the Philippine Defense Secretary Gilbert Teodoro, China is transforming the entire South China Sea into its own Lake. This fact alone is truly alarming.
Excellent and astute read. Whenever China points to "historical claims" I wonder how they would square that if Mongolia claimed China today as much of it was part of the Khan Empire centuries ago.
If it is "international waterway" the Chinese coast guards have as much right to be there. Sovereignty does not depend on proximity. If it is so, Hawaii should not belong to the USA; the many Indonesian islands near Malaysia and Singapore should not belong to Indonesia. There are other examples where proximity does not determine sovereignty. Historical records, treaties, old maps should be considered to determine sovereignty. UNCLOS, often quoted by the Philippines side, is about EEZ but not sovereignty. You cannot decide on sovereignty based on EEZ. Instead, sovereignty takes precedent over the EEZ. The "Tribunal at Hague" is also another one often cited by the Philippines. There is only one party involvement and this is null and void since mediation should have two parties involved. Philippines paid for the ruling because it wanted to go ahead even without China's participation, so what does that say? By docking an old ship on a disputed island to claim ownership over the island is creative but illegal. Sending construction materials to it to keep it standing is also illegal. Philippines is doing just that and play the victim when Chinese coast guards stops them.
To clarify, the Philippines' claim on Spratlys (aside from a few natural islands) are not territorial, but simply in context of an EEZ. An EEZ is not territorial water, but enforcement of international laws is within the obligation of the nation or nations controlling an EEZ. If two nations have overlapping EEZ's, then it is their obligation to talk in relation to sharing of resources within the shared EEZ. China, in this regard, is regarded by UNCLOS as an outsider in any such talks regarding Spratly's. The only ones who can are the Philippines, Malaysia, etc, who shares the overlapping EEZ. In regards to Scarborough shoal which is not part of Spratlys, the claims of China (and by extension, Taiwan) was also effectively rejected by the same court ruling. The Philippines is the sole legal claimant of the said shoal, and anyone else is basically an illegal settler. Also, speaking of natural islands, China doesn't even control ANY natural island in the Spratly group of islands. Even Taiwan is ahead of them in terms of controlling a natural island so they are relegated into destroying coral reefs to have some semblance of a claim. And that's the contentious part since reefs cannot be considered as territory, but falls under an EEZ and extended continental shelf which can only be exploited by the nations surrounding it. Taiwan controls the largest island, Vietnam controls 9 large islands, the Philippines controls 7 islands, and Malaysia controls 1. China's claims is basically flimsy. If the Philippines is as aggressive as China, then we can easily militarize any one of those islands. But we're a peace loving country
@@kasmotdmime china policy Is not part of their system that's way they got bullied because they already been independent on world war 2 and CCP is the one making those aggression!

Well if it gets down to free passage the US will challenge China, the question is if America goes to war over it, who will join the American Navy fighting China?
The us’ official stance is they dont recognize the territorial claims of claimant countries. Only that that part of the scs is part of the eez of the philippines and international waters, which means china has no legal basis to conduct a blockade there of other countries’ ships. Nor do they have any legal basis to loiter and exploit the resources there.
There are islands out there that are disputed but despite those dispute these small countries don't act like barbarians like China. They are literally far from those islands but are trying to claim it.
That is why the US should step in to protect philippines against chinese aggression in south china sea. The chinese are not there just to bully the Philippines, but also to occupy the whole south china sea and to contain the the US and its allies in south china sea.

In fact, when the Chinese were fishing and trading on those islands, the Filipinos were still wearing animal skins and stones. It was not until the end of China's anti aggression war in 1945 that the economy and military were very backward and lacked the energy to develop the navy. During this period, countries such as the Philippines and Vietnam illegally occupied islands that had belonged to China since ancient times, which is the root cause of the South China Sea issue. After years of negotiation between China and Vietnam, Vietnam returned the islands. As for the Philippines, They have become pawns in the game between the United States and China, willing to become the front line for the United States to confront China. In fact, if we look at the South China Sea issue from a historical perspective, the answer is very clear. From a historical perspective, any small country that voluntarily participates in the game of great powers will have a disastrous outcome. Whether you are Filipino or not, you know what I am talking about
Pure, unadultered garbage. "of China's anti aggression war in 1945 that the economy and military were very backward and lacked the energy to develop the navy. During this period, countries such as the Philippines and Vietnam illegally occupied islands that had belonged to China" lmao there was barely any PH government that time. The fuck are you on? PH was under American rule until 1946. Stop that shit. " As for the Philippines, They have become pawns in the game between the United States and China" Pawns? The only reason the US has PH's back is because we were allies in WW2 and we have our MDT. That's what weak countries do - band together or get a strong partner. The only reason China hasn't brute-forced the PH to submission is because the US will be forced to act, and they mad. " that had belonged to China since ancient times, " man fuck off with that BS. Mongolia could claim the entirety of China and there's nothing they could say to fight it. Historically, China's fake-ass islands in these disputed waters didn't even exist at all. What then? That's why historical claims are utter trash arguments.
Philippine authorities need to dialogue with China. Philippines do not let outside forces influence you into a dispute. There should never be a conflict between ASEAN neighbors.
In real life, scenes of harmonious coexistence far outnumber those of life-and-death struggle. My suggestion is that, as ordinary citizens of both countries, everyone should continue to enjoy their lives, eating and drinking as usual, and maintain a happy and peaceful relationship. There's no need for such sharp confrontations unless war is declared one day. The coast guards of both countries are merely fulfilling their duties, and it seems they haven't really impacted the fishermen and ordinary people. Additionally, when has the "American lord" ever shown respect for the Filipino people? The "American lord" has always positioned itself above others, viewing Asians merely as a bunch of monkeys in their eyes. Why is CNN so eagerly involved now? It's merely because the "monkeys" from China, if they break through the first island chain, could potentially threaten the "American lords." It's sad to see these "monkeys" still embroiled in internal strife.

True
Yes
The Philippines should have more mutual defense treaties like those with France, the UK, and Australia.

中国有内蒙古,而蒙古国是内蒙古过去的小弟
This is West philippine sea not china sea
@@tvgerbil1984 You are just parroting the same old argument without really reading what I have written above.
