This is undisputedly the best recording of the aria and scena I've heard. So clear, so well acted and sung. Very masculine - and Adina sounds suitably intelligent, Nemorino suitably pathetic (but a touch of the heroic in him). The only thing is I would have loved a more showy cadenza, especially since this is Belcore's star moment and out of all the Bel Canto Baritone arias he totally would show off as a character. I like to go up, and then incorporate a little reference to Nemorino's famous major to minor ending of Una Furtiva. Of course I'm nowhere near Maffeo's level and this will now be the standard I aspire to!
I agree - I have the Hilde Gueden / di Stefano / Corena recording in which Belcore is sung by Renato Capecchi who is badly miscast. He is far too heavy. Maffeo does it very well - clear diction and generally good control.

Он прожил большую жизнь, и после ухода с большой сцены был не только преподавателем , но и занимался дирижированим.Mafia oбладал очень сильным, мощным голосом. Тембр был достаточным красивым, плотным. Вообще талантливый был певец. Но , к сожалению, сильно" затирали" не давали особо петь на больших, всемирно известных театров. Очень мало гастролировал... Как теперь , говорят, нераскрученный, был ! Как французы говорят "Ce qu' il fanf faire.” такова жизнь❗️💗💗😊🙏🙏🌷🌷🌷

It was recorded in the former Czechoslovakia, I don't know the year. I had it in the past and I like it very much. Probably it can still be bougth via Internet.
