Lol xr650 is more like 40 ish hp stock. Not to mention how heavy it is. Sorry but xr’s can’t compete to a crf450 unless suitable conditions (maybe dakar lol)

If it says XR that's the only one you should consider in my opinion. Granted my first bike was the1993 XR250R and i trail ride. Let me tell you, that bike is UNSTOPPABLE. TOUGH AS NAILS. It surprised me on almost every ride in one way or another. Some examples.... So it was almost a week into owning my XR250R and i didn't have a very good place for riding.... but i couldn't stay off of the thing. So i can loop thru my yard, up across the gravel drive i shared with my other two neighbors, across a slightly sloping grass lot 75 yds long and then I'd be at the beginning of my driveway looking onto hwy 104. So i did something incredibly dumb... I shot across the hwy and up a decently sloped gravel drive which i had never been up before. And man that torque was feeling so damn good that i was in 5th of 6 gears and hauling ass blind to the rd ahead. Well besides having no shoulder most of the way and possibly hittig someone leaving down the driveway head on at 50 mph. The damned driveway forked! Well either I went sharp rigth or sharp left, or straight into an almost 90° embankment. I slammed on the brakes and. slid sideways in a skid and then straightened her up at the last second and went into the wall at about 30mph. The bike didnt flinch!
Also much later. Already replaced the rear wheel bearings and front shock seals... I was riding some logging roads and by that I mean skidder tracks, not these nicely graveled and maintained logging roads for log trucks.... Well there were ruts and puddles in there of course this is Washington State. The XR LOVES water and mud etc... but I didn't know just how much till I'm tooling along and it's getting muddy since I was coming to the bottom of a swale. The ruts where the only place to ride because everything else was way too rough at this point. Well these ruts both became 30 or so foot long pools and didn't appear any deeper than the others. I stopped at the beginning, tucked my clothes up and headed in... Within 6feet it was almost to the head on the motor. I got it into second gear and got ON the throttle. The bike was so deep that I had my legs lifted up out of the trench rut it was in and my legs were just about level with the ground and my heels were pushing dirt. I had no shifter contact I pinned the sucker and she bellowed the sweetest bubbly bark that became a steaming scream through the super trapp exhaust and I BARELY CRAWLED OUT THE OTHER SIDE. I don't know how really. Water was basically to the seat. My ass got wet going 2mph with full fenders. There was water draining out of the airbox drain when I pulled the plug. Honda has built a snorkel that went ABOVE the airbox and it took a slug of water but once I got in the throttle because I started to bog, it was fine. If not for Honda designing the bike the way they did on the airbox. It would have killed the motor. I'm saying that the bike was MADE FOR THE SHIT. BUILT FOR IT. Trail riding is where it shines. Low speed torque, fuel economy, heavy duty steel frame. Not a motocross champion.... But don't think you couldn't jump her like any other track bike either. Just truly legendary. Bulletproof. Thanks Honda for the memories and the ride. She never died on me and I had to sell her.
Both lovely bikes. So many xr fanboys here though. If it’s not a 100km Dakar then crf450 will outrace the xr any day weight and hp wise.. but still, prefer xr! Awesome vintage bike (the older ones)
Never should of stopped making liquid cooled alloy frame 650 , just kept going like drz400’s
Both absolute beasts
Good ol 650 is untouchable once it gets into its last gear
This brings back memories of MX vs ATV untamed
CRF450 53HP 32Torque
XR650 61HP 47 Torque
This is painfully inaccurate. The XR doesn't make anywhere close to 61
Ya, with race spec builds on both bike. More like. Xrr (50hp/38 ft lbs) Crf-X (44hp/28 ft lbs) averages uncorked.

Excellent bug-out bike
These new 450's are fast as hell and stupid light
Maybe t's because of the gearing. the xr650 gearing can be changed.

You can literally hear how much quicker the race bike revs compared to the chook chaser 650. Love em both but.

The frame on an XR is all steel. And tough oooooeeeee

R :)
It’s an R mate. I now own one aswell. No longer have the 450
I also just bought one, the best decision I have ever made...Plus it's street legal.
