The Fruitland Harmonizers -did a show in Cambridge. MD with the Original Hummingbirds in the late 80s. I was the Harmonizers drummer. Jesse Jackson was there. Nothing like the Dixie Hummingbirds. The current guys do a nice job. They have that good old, jubilant, hopping, classy southern gospel.country western sound that makes these bands so special going back to the 30s.
All my life I ve been a gospel fan of the Dixie Hummingbirds, since I’m from Greenville, SC where they went to high school with my family. Anyway since I heard them the first time in person I just felt in love with them, and when they came to Baltimore City to sing in person, I really enjoy them. Especially when I got a chance to meet Mr. Iva Tucker and the entirer group, not only that I was able to get all their autographs on the their picture that they gave me! Thank God for how blessed to be part of history, Also my father and Aunts went to high school with them when James Davis and Iva Tucker started singing in high school too, and I so glad that the New Dixie Hummingbirds have taken over and they really sound great, and can’t wait until they come to Baltimore!
Love these guys!! It's a bold step to even try to emulate such icons as The Birds, and tho they may not have that "thing" the originals did - they still sound great! I'm proud to know Carlton personally....He's a fine young man...has always been rooted in good Gospel singing. Carry on men!!!
Wow thx for posting this. Gospel music doesn't get enough support or recognition for its importance as a genre or its foundational role in American music. This is awesome
I guess I will date myself by saying this, but the first time I saw the Dixie Hummingbirds, there was Howard Carroll on guitar, and they had a drum machine. I first saw them at the Cow Palace in San Francisco in the early 2nd half of the 20th Century.
Lyndon Baines Jones was a genius & gentleman. He carried on brilliantly the legacy of Mr. Howard Carroll. His musicianship and friendship is dearly missed. His spirit will live on.
Sylvia North Carolina Good Day! This isn’t a cover group, actually. Three of the members were chosen by Ira Tucker Sr. They were trained, nurtured & actually performed with him. Another member is Ira Tucker Jr. Ira Sr. wanted to ensure that the group would live on. Thankfully, it is alive & well & about to celebrate the 90th anniversary! Thank you so much for your support!
Sorry Sir But this is not a Cover Group.Who Are They..They're THE LEGENDARY DIXIE HUMMINGBIRDS...Praise God and Thank God for These Young Chosen Men of God for carrying on Traditional Gospel Music.Love&Peace....Please Remember God Created One of The Each of Us.
2019 Been looking for Christian songs like this! Can someone please please please suggest other artists who are Christian (Protestants) with this SOULFUL worship to GOD. Please. Hillsong, Bethel, Elevation Music, and Jars of Clay are too overrated. Need to go back to the GOSPEL/SOUL roots. Please help. Thanks.
Hi, if you are looking for SOULFUL Christian singing, particularly acappella singing, check out The Harmonizing Stars of Boston.... on UA-cam... In June 2019 celebrated 50 years singing. Please give me feedback.
@4thumbsdown These are the Dixie Hummingbirds. The original ones that you're used to seeing have passed away. The group started in 1928. Some of the original singers were born in the early/ mid 1920's So during the 1940's and 50's they were in their 20's and 30's. That was 70- 80 years ago. They replace the singers when one passes on. To keep the group going, they choose people who can fit the bill of the Dixie Hummingbirds. The harmony, sound and style is favored by other gospel male group and r& b groups.
@@eugeniaboone5602 I know I know 🙏🏽 I'm an old man with an older soul just ranting. ira, beechi, bo bo etc sometimes would pratice at our house in west phila early 70s. my father was in a band that emulated them "sons of the birds" in mid 50s. they're my favorite forever. the last song i would hear before my last breath "if anybody ask you"🙏🏾
@@jaidenamccarroll Exactly..those men were from the old School and can NEVER be duplicated...but these guys do a fine job of carrying on the tradition!

He sounds like the spitting image of his father
I bet he can't sing like him!!!!
You know the guy singing lead isn't Ira Tucker, Jr. That would be the tall guy second from the right with the cane.
Not Mr Tucker son leading
What kind of electric guitar is that?
Not the same without the original thanks for trying....keep their legacy alive!

I hate to say it but someone is off key.
Ha Ha...they alright..but no one will ever be able to capture the magic of the classic lineup!!!!!!
I know that's right!!!!
Ill say it for you
Not as tight as the originals.
Why would it even be? Still good tho.
