Giorgio Moroder & Joe Pizzulo - Radar Radio - Top Gun Rare Track 1986 Soundtrack

  • Here is a rare track which is from the 1986 classic Top Gun, but was never put on the soundtrack.
It was only released on a B Side to the Berlin "Take My Breath Away" single.
Here it is in full. The familiar drums and sounds from the other Top Gun Soundtrack songs are clearly heard in this track, which is heard in the movie on a radio jukebox.

I love this song...I think it just exemplifies the look, feel and tone of the movie Top Gun...that old school, 80's feel with naval bravado, American pride mixed in...

What a shame they didn't make it part of A side soundtrack. The song really resembles the spirit of Top Gun and 80's. Not to mention the man behind it was Giorgio Moroder who is uncrowned king of 80's pop rock movie music production. Anyway I like Top Gun with all my heart, it really brings back childhood memories when my brother and me would watch it over and over again. Also, Top Gun Maverick exceeded my expectations, the best possible outcome of a sequel, I'm now far apart from my brother and I'm living for the day we'll watch it just as we watched original Top Gun together hundreds of times. Love you my brother and love both Top Gun movies.

This is featured after the final dogfight and Maverick is having a beer just before Charlie walks in and plays you've lost that lovin' feeling on the Juke box. "I heard the best of the best was going to be back here so um...."

Not to say its a crap movie (its by far my fav for these kinds of movies actually and it way up there) but its interesting the inaccuracies in the movie lol, like bogies arent enemies well not exactly they're unidentified crafts, an enemy craft is referred to as a bandit, for another live warhead missiles have a yellow band around them not blue like in theatre in the movie (indication obviously they werent using live weapons obviously lol), "going ballistic" is just when the plane stalls, is going too slow to keep the air together at the back of the wings so it falls or at least its nose goes down to gain speed (aircraft stalls) not just an uncontrollable plane.
Big time love aviation and as I said it's not to negatively criticise the movie just things you may find interesting :)

Also of note is the F14 didn't have a rotating refresh line (rotating sweep bar as its called), rather went from side to side like all TACAIR crafts radars TACtical AIRcraft, updating altitude in increments. The apparatus of the radar was located in the nose of the craft of the F14 and therefore scanning only scanning in a 60 degree arc and not the 360 sweep shown in the movie, would if it was pose a radiation hazard to the crew who would be sitting a few feet from it.
