    I remember enjoying this play the first time round. It takes an ostensibly deadly-serious political situation - a British government in a time of national weakness having to forge new relationships with European powers, but also having to carefully negotiate some kind of relationship with a country run by a rising dictator. The story of Neville Chamberlain in the 1930s is one that has been told with both scorn and sympathy at different times, but not necessarily with the attention to the absurd that you can find in this play. Broadcast in 2007 some British listeners may find aspects of it particularly fascinating given everything that has unfolded in UK politics in the years since...
