Really think you need 2 ships more. One to sell Sukker to Spain and the last ship. One you can use wherever you want ^^ So you have 2 ships making money all the time from the auto/trade routes
Party, tip from someone who’s been playing the Port royale series a lot (for a long time). In Port Royale 4 you can set up trade routes to automatically buy and sell by demand by pressing the button ‘standard’ when selecting a town in the list. Do that with every town on your route. This makes it so it automatically calculates which goods to buy in cities that produce them and consider how much they need that good in another town. You will make a LOT more profit and time which you can spend on growing your rum empire! Also, when making a trade route, you can select ‘distribute convoys’ for when you want to have multiple convoys on the same route. Love the series, you should definitely keep up the good work and play this run ‘to the end’. Good luck and trade on!
You know if your town is getting close to having a plague you might want to buy large amounts of cloth and wood to be ready to "help" then as soon as possible
I really like the historical tidbits even if they don't provide any actual gameplay effects. It does grind my historical gears that the colonies aren't distributed historically, although I can understand that doing so would provide a very asymmetric experience for playing France, Netherlands or England and a very easy game for playing Spain.
Man I'm loving this series so far! The small historic tidbits and facts are really interesting I don't know why anyone would ever turn it off and man it's really fun to see party as more of a ruthless merchant compared to the merchant King Partiyah in bannerlords who is def more mercy full (most of the time anyway XD) and I'm all for it! Embrace your inner cutthroat Party it's gonna be fun I bet
Wow, loving the reaction from Port Royale's business to your extra Sugar Cultivation, very interesting game mechanics - looking forward to seeing how deep this rabbit hole goes...
trinidad also has wood which is the other main ingredient for rum. if you get a wood camp and warehouses you can start making rum for just the cost of the ship journey
Party it might not be a bad idea to establish a cloth business in Port Royale. It already produces cotton, so a cloth business would be good investment. Yes I know you want to focus on rum, but trying to grow the economy of the town you oversee is a noble venture. Also, Port Royale also produces other things right? Beer, pastries, and most importantly - rum. Trading sugar is profitable, but why not do a little trading of those things too? You can set the priority of sugar higher in the menu than those things if you want to focus on that still Edit: I can't remember f you're importing wood to Port Royale or not. Remember that wood is necessary to produce rum, so if it doesn't get brought in, your business will be negatively impacted!
Ah good points all around! I wish I hadn't just finished recording the next session. But this is very much in line with what I was thinking for the session after too!
Adding more markets might also reduce the plagues risk, look at other towns and their buildings, and check their plague risks. It might help you figure out a ratio of what is going on
After you have done the sugar method to the entire rum market, drop down production to slightly exceed demand (in case it starts to rise- netting a much higher price due to shortage) by replacing certain areas that can also be used for specialty goods (luxuries and such) so that you get a good hand in all that part of the market while having solid monopoly on sugar and rum. Turn those thousands into billions. 😁🤑
I had to spend 2 hours understanding how the manual trade routes worked. This game has an addicting quality to it like civ5. Not sure how efficient it really is, but what I do now is choose one guaranteed lucrative commodity. Then I move from one area to the other, picking up and selling at every city along the way the produced goods at said cities. Once the ship gets to the area with the main commodity, I pick that up, and usually, it's so far away from the start point that the other commodities I've picked up along the way get sold. The same is true in reverse, except the main commodity I picked up usually sells for a lot. TlDr, I pick one commodity I know is scarce in one area and make that the priority. Then to cover costs of upkeep and whatnot, the stops along the way (both going and returning) cover the costs while allowing for the occasional lucky profit. I found that a variety of goods being sold automatically is usually easier than banking on a single good. Could be wrong though. I struggled quite a bit transferring from manual buying/selling to manual trade routes so I'm definitely pretty unaware of what to do / not to do.
Yep that's been my approach for the most part too. By having the sugar cultivations of our own and driving the price down to 48, we can always buy cheaply (and even just pick up for free once our warehouse is established) and then set our own sales prices. I find it becomes a matter of balancing distance/# of stops vs. profit-per-stop. I manually set my price to, for example, 80 on that sugar. Might push it up to 90. That way, it all sells in small portions, but I might need more stops to dump it all. But going from 90 to 91 can suddenly mean i'm selling 20 less units per stop, and all of a sudden, i'm not able to offload it all. I find automatic makes things pretty easy, so to challenge myself, I go full manual. I love tweaking numbers a little up / down to find that sweet spot myself - there's that sense of pride and accomplishment haha. I'm still nowhere near optimized, I think - but we're making alright money for one ship buying/selling primarily sugar!
@@PartyElite Yeah it's very important to make sure you're selling. By the way, make sure you buy meat from the spanish if you're around there. Meat is ridiculously lucrative because of the distance. It isn't necessarily worth going out of your way for (although I did make a profitable route in my game, the layout is different) buy you can buy meat for ~180 in spanish cities and sell for more than 350 if you return back to english or dutch territory. Edit you figured out the meat :D
French pronunciation guide: "gu" makes a hard g sound like in guy or guide (as opposed to a soft g like I huge). With a u, 'gue' is a hard sound, where 'ge' would be a soft sound. The U itself isn't pronounced. H at the beginning of a word don't make a difference most of the time, and the t at the end of a word is never pronounced. Does that help with pronouncing Huguenot? 😁
I would not necessarly shut down rum production in Trinidad. The city also produces wood, so you can deliver sugar from Port Royale to Trinidad and wood from Trinidad to Port Royale to minimize production cost in both cities. Remember you are going to build a rumpire not just a rumpolis.
Good point! In fact there's Port-au-Prince that already produces cloth - I could just re-distribute theirs until I can get my own set up - since, as you said, we do produce cotton ourselves!
Hey Party, could you take a look at your sugar business' profits? I'm wondering whether having so much excess and having it priced so low is actually causing your sugar business to be operating at a loss?
Ooh just finished next session and didn't check in footage, sorry. If we establish a warehouse I think we can probably sell back to the town and maintain a local daily profit. The business has a daily cost of about 50, iirc, after profit/loss is taken into account. So operating at a loss locally until we build a warehouse and hoard, if I understand it right. But across the seas it ends up fairly consistently lucrative
I can't quite compare it to prior games in the series myself, but I find that city building feels like something that one can focus on if they so wish (in free game at least). It's especially important if you want to be self-sustaining, or if you want to drive certain types of trade and kill others.
@@PartyElite bought the game Saturday... Not sure yet but the warehouse management feels different than before... The one thing I learned is that I don't set my trading routes with armed ships, the losses when being raided without armed ships are much lower than with armed ships, where I have to enter battles, unless I have a strong navy, which I still don't.

I really enjoy his game so far! And whenever I hear the word rum I just imagine all the pirates happily buying your rum and singing about it. XD

Right? I thought it was so cool to see the world react like that!
Great series already. Plz continue.
also, the corn and the vegetables are a very PROFITABLE resourse, especially in the dutch colonies...
Good to know! Should look into a side-hustle
This game is beautiful. I am really enjoying your play through. Keep it going please.

Right! I keep for getting it's "pay" at the end. I keep thinking "like cantaloupe" lol.

please consider a 2. ship. you can then leave the profitable route active while doing tasks. and since the route is english only ar is no issue
Definitely! I think I'll just commission one from our Viceroy's town as soon as it becomes affordable.
Fun times..
NNice!
