This video presumes that you have WSJT-X loaded and working. If you don't, then you'll have no idea about what I'm talking about. Do a search on UA-cam for WSJT-X setup and your rigs model, and multiple videos will show up to help you get on the air with this fantastic program.

Nice video Tom. I did learn a couple things so thanks for that. Maybe a GridTracker Video next. 73 from Jackson county KE8PHJ
Mark - thanks for the idea. It's on my "Ideas" whiteboard that you can see in a few of my videos. I'll be sure to credit you when I do the video... 73 (from Fayette County) de Tom, ND3N...
Tom again thanx a million for the great ...informative and detailed videos. Im loving FT8...even on POTA, when bands are down, i can get plenty for the activation. Tom, I tried FT4 today on a POTA... everything seemed to work fine...EXCEPT, I never got even one rersponse on FT4... FT8 tons of contacts.. So my question is, do I need to make any changes to the settings when I switch to FT4 from FT8? Thanx for all your videos... NS9T 73 sir.
If FT8 is working, then so should FT4. Do you see other signals on your waterfall? If not, you may be on the wrong frequencies, or no one is currently working FT4. Do a google search for “FT4 frequencies” and you’ll get a list. If you see other signals, they might not be hearing you. Just keep trying and you’ll get QSOs soon.
@@ND3N Yes I see signals... 20m I set it to 14.080... but ok, ill keep trying, i was in the park so maybe I did not give it enough time... Thanks sir 73
Thanks, I picked up a few tips. During your discussion of operator types, you suggested a setting that would call on the trasmitting freq. I lock my transmitting freq and move it to what is open, at least decoded on my end. I rarley call CQ. I thought that if many are transmitting on the same freq, my signal might not decode.
Your thoughts?
Hi Brad. Actually, with all of the WSJT-X waveforms, everyone tunes to the same XMT freq, but are changing the audible frequency. I spend most of my time calling CQ. Just be sure you have a clear frequency on both the even and odd TX/RX cycle then start sending and wait for people to start responding to you. The software will take care of everything else. When you’re QSO is done, your TX enabled will turn off. You should also have been prompted to log the contact. Take a breath and start again by enabling TX. 73 de Tom, ND3N
I want to send CQ for a specific Country. I have tried creating a macro, or just enter in one of the 6 lines on the bottom right. When I do this I get this symbol "" with CQ_XXX in between the brackets. I can't seen to find any info in how do you do this correctly. I can see others who are doing it on my screen. I will give you the exact example.
Give me an example how to type in CQ P43 xxxx FN41 xxxx would be callsign Thanks, Ken
I will have to research this. I’ve done it before and recall that the format for that is in a separate message list, but not the specifics.
Great video Tom, tnx, I work alot of POTA, I have been trying to work all states... I NEED Alaska, how can I quickly see if a station is from Alaska.... or do I need like Grid Tracker? tnx again 73 NS9T
Grid Tracker would show AK both on the list and on the map. You could also set an alert for an audio notification.
@@ND3N thnx sir

Hey Paul - I had to go back and review this just a day or so ago - Had reset my 991A. But follow this step-by-step and you'll be on WSJT-x in a jiffy... ua-cam.com/video/iWhkx6l-5TM/v-deo.html
I'm just starting out using ft8, what version of WSJT-X is right for FT-8 because i will be using just ft8. plus, their so many version of wsjt-x tx
Get the latest version of WSJT-x available. Check every couple of months after that for any updates. It doesn't take much to download and install. Most changes are improvements on the signal processing, so every upgrade should give you better results. 73 de Tom, ND3N
how did you set this screen up, if just looks better to see whats goning on
Thanks.
Hi Paul - I just started WSJT-X and pointed my camera at the screen. I couldn't get my normal screen recorder to work, but after this I started to use OBS, which took a bit of getting used to, but has become one of my goto programs.
I'm not sure if I answered your question, but if I didn't come back and ask again... 73 Tom, ND3N
depending on your screen size you drag either window width ways and up and down, me personally i have 32 inch screen and i have my waterfall full width across the screen@ the top showing 3000hz of activity, with the depth of display about 3 inches , and the main window the rest of the screen depth again stretched to full screen width, on the waterfall my start point is 200hz, bins pixel 2 n avg 4,flatten ticked and spec as 30%, nice sizing for a 32 inch screen, mind you i have wsjt alert on a second screen, and i utilise my 3 rd screen to switch between and view log4om/psk reporter/qrz & youtube :), pps quick tip when i box appears to click ok to confirm a qso, if you do not like the position of that box BEFORE clicking ok drag the box(by clicking on the top of the box) to a position on your screen of your prefernce and then click ok, the next time you get a qso the "OK" box will always appear in the same place every time , very handy as you can always have your mouse pointer always in the correct place ready to click ok :) pps * i have used these simple techniques to get 8 band all zones worked on QRZ :) :)
