    60 years ago a 4 row planter was huge now watching 24 row, I can’t imagine filling the seed boxes the way we did it with bags and them burning them in the field, all day planting chore for 10 acres. I enjoy watching and listening to the tractors work.

    As a farmer’s son, I’ve enjoyed the video to the point of sadness for not being able to follow the tradition (family’s farm is in the Dominican Republic) and I live in USA. Thanks so much for allowing us to dream about our roots!

    Thank you so much, Jason.
    I just love those old Steigers so much. Growing up we had a Series III Panther with the Steigermatic transmission with a blade for pushing silage and a Series III Bearcat with a three point and PTO. They were wonderful tractors.
    I really believe that those are gorgeous machines. My favorite of all time. Second favorite is the 1000 series...😁😉
    I was crestfallen when I heard that Steigers went going to be green anymore and sickened when they took the name off. Happy they at least put the name back on.

    That steiger pulling the planter most likely has allis chalmers drive train components. Was kind of kept secret, but for steiger to get a row crop tractor, with bar axles, and adjustable tread width, they bought components from allis. If you look at the shift console in the cab, it's just like the allis 4W305. Front end, rear end, power director transmission is all allis. Allis engineer at the time, and steiger engineer were good friends from having designed a white four wheel drive tractor together in their previous job, so that's how the deal got put together

    Nice to see some "old school" working, we had mechanical markers at our family farm as well, we only had a 20foot Överum seeder, but it worked perfectly, never stopped working either :)
    The farmer that runs the ground now has gps though, he´s cheating ;)
    Also fun to see so many women run these big old tractors, they sure have a good job :)

    Cool equipment! But no wonder that soil is so crusted; they burned all the organic matter and destroyed the soil structure with all those tillage passes over the years. Not how I'd be farming that ground.

    • @bigtractorpower
      @bigtractorpower  4 роки тому

      Not true at all. The river washes over these fields every year putting 12 ft or more of water on them for a few months. There is lots and lots of organic matter that is why river bottom ground is desirable for crops despite the risk of summer and fall flooding.

    • @bigtractorpower

      Well good thing thing it’s the farmer so no one is getting fired. Every farm I film at on the river flats leaves the blades just touching the surface to cover the tire tracks on a turn. I film at several farms on both sides of the river in IN and KY and they all do it this way. They must have a reason if they all do it. .
