Tip: For those of you who are thinking of using "rattle can" spray paint to paint the foam more quickly, DON'T. Spray paint contain solvents that melts the foam if applied directly on it. You will cry seeing your hard work melting and shrivelling down in a blob. Use acrylic paint and a brush or an air brush.
What you can do though is make a white glue and water mix paint it over your castle then you can rattle can it just make sure its coverted and dryed well first.
You're such a great artist! I love this foam castle..I made a paper castle myself for our office's decoration and I think I can do this too..thanks for this tutorial.. :)
Thank you for posting this video. I use parts of this castle for visual reference for the foam castle I am making I'll post a picture when it is complete.
seems like you are having fun. You can use the blade from a hacksaw to cut foam very nicely. Doesnt even need to be on a hacksaw. Just the blade. Always be careful! Small wood saws work too. Smaller teeth on any type of saw.
yes, it is easily done with acrylics. Just brush the brush on the palette to remove most of the paint before trying to dry brush. Wow, that sentence is tricky.
Are you going to finish this with some cool landscaping? This is one of your best looking projects and I would love to see it touched up to the max! Nice:)
Im Irish, we have a lot of nice castles here, and in the uk, i love to visit castles, their is one around the corner from my house in Monksatown, it was built by Henry the 8th,
this is freaking awesome man..... i wish you could have do more weathering and extreme accurate detail that'd have been even more freaking rocking awesome.
Very cool tutorial, wish I could find thick foam like that. I guess I will make the long drive to Home Depot, because our local Lowes, does not carry it. I love working with foam, on my model railroad dioramas. Foam is so easy to work with, and it shapes nicely. I like to coat the foam with lightweight hydrocal.
I have a small collection of Safari ltd. dragon/fantasy figures, but I’d like to have something interesting to display them on instead of just my desk. I’d like to make a scene where my tiger-gladiator is battling some of my dragons, done Skyrim-style. This is giving me some ideas on how to do that. Wonderful tips, and an incredible castle!
So much you can do with this thick foam you could use a roller to indent stones then using a small flat tool indent some stones deeper then others really makes the walls pop. Could spend as much time as you want doing more and more detail. Ivy growing up castle walls different shades of stones ect.
maybe for your castle make a dragon... not to big, fighting with a knight, spitting fire at his shield. i got this idea from youre picture with that dragon ;) and i love youre assasins creed tomahawk.. i wanted to make one but i didnt realy have the materials.. i couldnt get them anywhere :( i hope you like my idea and i hope i'm the first with it. and btw you got a nice beard growing ;) thanks for all your tutorials!
Suggestion!: carve a rubber stamp and put pint on it to make consistent brick imprint across the castle Orrr, take a wire and bend it into shape of brick wall and connect it to a bunch of single A batteries and the wire will heat up and make neat consistent imprints of brick on the castle walls. xD
When will the bigger foam castle be done and are you going to make a video of it. Please Reply. Great vids by the way I've been watching them for about a month.
That looks great. I love your tutorials. What kind of paint do you use for dry brushing? I tried acrylic paint but it didn't come out right. I was told to try oil paint but its expensive. Can it be done with acrylic, and I just need to keep trying, or do I need to use oil paints?
That hot cut toll you used for the windows. Where can i get that? So far ive used a soldering pen but that isnt working the way i want. Nice castle btw, im thinking dr Dooms castle
Nice castle and pretty easy to do. I would use cardboard tubes for the towers, either paper towel rolls or pringle cans. And the rest of it can be cereal box cardboard.
