- In this video I have introduced the boiler, and jigged it up with the back end and the front end, it's a pity I didn't get to video any of the boiler making, but the whole of the traction engine is starting to look really good, I'm very happy!! 😁
Merci mr Mowlam pour ces excellentes vidéos. Elles me seront très utiles. Amitiés vaporistes!
Thank you for your comment, and thank you for watching 👍🏻 I have just had a full right knee joint replacement operation, so I am out of action for a short while. Thank you
looking great, really coming on now .
Thank you,
Starting to take shape, looking good
Thank you, it's starting to look like a proper traction engine
Amazing benny looking good 👍
Thank you, it's definitely a traction engine 😁
I feel sure that whatever you do will turn out beautiful and all made, when I have been cutting gears I would make one out of teflon so I could check that I had it right and do it quick before I made a steel one. It sound as though you may be from Devon, that is also my old home.
I am from Weymouth in Dorset
Neat job!
I wish I could silver solder as good as that.
Thank you, I used to do a lot of that when I was younger,
starting to come together now, looking like a proper fowler showmans road loco!
Thank you, yes she's coming together, but it's still along way to go
Great job, I built a 3" Allchin some years ago and loved it, have just bought a 2" Allchin and waiting for some warm weather to fire it up, looking forward to seeing yours under steam.
Thank you, there's still a lot to do
I like the clear & detailed way you display your work. Thank you.
Thank you, I'm pleased you like my videos 👍
“But there’s something missin’ in the middle” 😂😂😂 you are often so serious, but you also have subdued sense of humour. Wonderful video’s.
Thank you 😁
It's great to see the progress being made, thank you : ).
Thank you, it's starting to look like a traction engine now and I'm very happy how it's looking
I love your work. These 2" scale showman's engines are some of my favorite model engineering.
Hi
Thank you, it's the first traction engine I have ever made, but I think she's coming along nicely
I now live in Canada.
Good work. I was hoping to see further work and wonder why there are no further videos? Can we expect any?
Hi, thank you. Yes, in the coming weeks I will be getting back in the workshop, I have a problem with my right knee joint with a lot of pain and unable to stand on it, I have been fitted with a knee brace to pull the bones apart which I am getting used to wearing and getting a bit more Mobile, but now I am waiting for a new knee joint
@@jammymowlam1 Sorry to hear of your troubles. I hope all goes well with the replacement. When my Sweet Pea is painted I will be onto the boiler of my engine
purchased from a deceased friend.
Hi Julian. Thanks for all the work that goes into making and editing your vidios, as well as the engine build. Can I ask a question, did you manage to silver solder the boiler totally with propane burners or did you have to use oxy act (or oxy propane) as well?
Martyn
Hi, I silver soldered the whole boiler with propane and used the biggest torch nozzle I had as the boiler is all 1/8" thick copper, thank you for watching 👍🏻
Thanks Julian I do have all the Severt burners and propane kit just wondered how much heat was required for an reasonably large boiler as your building. I guess you used a cyclone burner to solder the stays in the firebox.@@jammymowlam1
Did you get a hydraulic test done before you go any further?
Yes it has had a hydraulic test, but once I get the bushes in for all the fixing points for spectical plates, weyshaft bracket and cylinder I shall have it retested
Thanks for sharing! Are you going to make a one piece drive shaft or silver solder one together?
The crankshaft I shall be silver soldering one together when I make it
@@jammymowlam1 Can you not get a cast crank?
I can get a crankshaft which is 2 way cut or something like that but it sounds like it needs a great deal of machining to make it it good, but I may look into it
@@jammymowlam1 Very satisfying though when you have done it
Nice, so Julian did you do the boiler?
Thank you, yes I did the boiler I brought the material a little at a time as copper is quite expensive and I certainly wouldn't do another
@@jammymowlam1 fantastic job
@@jammymowlam1 Hi Julian, I am just contemplating making a boiler for sister engine of yours 2” scale Burrell. Interested to know why you say you won’t make another boiler. I presume you mean you would have it professionally made if you built another engine?
There is a lot of work making a boiler, if ever I make another traction engine, then I would probably have it made professionally, but I am 62 so I probably won't be building another traction engine at my age, I still have lots of work on this one 😁
