  • Native women in Arizona are disappearing at staggering rates, yet the media coverage their cases have received doesn’t compare to the media spotlight on cases of white women who have gone missing or been murdered in the United States.

I am shocked at the gaslighting of officials in the face of pure negligence and indifference. The FBI agent in Phoenix "I can't stress enough" grandstanding.
    WOW.
Native Americans have been so mistreated and yet we only hear about other minorities in the country and the over coverage of their "injustice" when this is the real injustice in America.
It's beyond outrageous. It is a sad reflection on our society - all of us.

Unfortunately the native Americans government themselves and want nothing to do with “ OUTSIDERS “ even if someone on the reservation has done something illegal outside of the reservation…. Until they want to cry oppression and racism . I know , I’m part of a Native American reservation.

Have they? Or is it another example of when you expect the govt to “take care of you” you’ll be disappointed time and time again….?
If you notice, the groups who are “mistreated” in the eyes of the media and their like minded followers are always the people who generation after generation live off the tax dollars of other Americans who pay more into the system than they take out? Do you know WHICH groups fall into that group? The ones who actually contribute to society? I’ll give you a hint… it’s never the people you hear about on the media as being mistreated. When in reality the people who contribute, while watching others get handout after handout, are the ones truly being mistreated.

I see why the families feel so forgotten. That FBI agent was nothing but excuses. It is UNACCEPTABLE for a family to be ignored for 2 years waiting for a DNA test from the FBI. Shameful, FBI, do better!

The FBI is weaponized and politicized. There focus is now on white "domestic terrorists", you know PTA moms, homeschoolers, prolife Catholics and people who trespassed at the Capital(despite many being waved in by Capital police) on Jan 6th. Investigating child predators have been put on the back burner.

Kudos to the documentary makers for researching and publicising this issue, and helping leverage action from Federal and State authorities who were previously bogged down in poverty, despair, helplessness and the residue of centuries of violence and conflict. I hope going forward, families can heal, and people can be safer, and respected.

Utterly, emphatically agree. I would like to know who the perps are.
Indigenous women go missing from Canada to Arizona. I don't know what the data is on Mexico.
Are the perps white men coming in and victimizing brown-skinned women, or is this Indigenous men killing Indigenous women?
I DO know, from personal experience, if a wife is killed AND there is adultery, on either side, or both, OFTEN there is murder.
My friend was murdered by her husband over the child $upport he just found out he would have to pay.

It is asinine that AZ doesn't have to report the missing to NAMUS. The Navajo Nation is beautiful but desolate and under served in all aspects. There's one Bashas (grocery store) to serve an entire town. Emergency care is even further away. It's so vast that going missing and forgotten is so easy.
I'm glad that the Yazzies finally got answers for their missing loved one. But almost 2 years after being found they have yet to receive her remains!
Thank you for doing this report and showing there is much room for improvement and finally things are being set forth for the Rez. These people have been neglected far too long. It is time for change, it is time for improvement on all levels.

So native American crimes & their sin's we should blame the U.S.A government for everything, blame the companies blame the businesses for not bringing enough stores, not enough for anything, where is the native Americans morals & values???? So people should do crime & blame their isn't enough help, what kinds of people are they raising in their community??? People of all race they all do same crimes as native American's, but they all have enough of anything why those people are doing same crimes??? You know people of all race they all blame what they don't have, but many development areas still do worse crimes & worse sins, problems are not what they don't have in their community, problems are peoples bad-morals & bad upbringings. Many human race all over the world does not have in their mountains, their community, in their villages but they respect each other, they don't murder, rape to each other, they even sent their kids miles of walking to their schools, even on dangerous roads, hills & mountains, but they don't rape, murder & do all type of evil, the problem is not what people have, problem is people have bad morals, evil-thoughts. Native Americans seem they are just bad as other human race, what is destroying them is their ignorance & their own sins, their own crimes. First good morals & good values comes from religions & then from good education.

I worked in law enforcement and found some tribal police agencies did not share arrest information with the state. That is a completely broken system. Another problem is that these communities are remote and small, so many of the officers are related in some way (clan member, etc) to nearly everyone in town. This can interfere with which cases are investigated. In this case, the FBI took two years to return the evidence results. That is an unheard of amount of time compared to the state level which is usually just a few weeks.

I live in California, and my town is located right up against the mountains. My dad has been working for and side-by-side our reservations for decades, and they hold a very special place in his heart.
It’s so interesting and disheartening to see how drastically different each Native American reservation is in economic status, especially in other states. Ours actually have a lot of economic and political influence. They of course have their own schools, and that includes an adult school, police department, fire station, a vets hall, a library, church buildings, medical care, post office, grocery stores, gas stations, etc. Even though they are located way up into the mountains, they have an entire town up there as well as an abundance of resources back in town.
Now this is just my personal opinion… From what I have seen and heard about this specific crisis is that the common denominator is POVERTY. Because poverty = chaos and ruin! This same exact crisis IS HAPPENING right now in every single heavily impoverished area of the world to many other cultures, and specifically women as well. It definitely doesn’t help that they are their own nation, so that causes isolation and negative pride towards the outsiders or the outsiders treating their reservations negatively as well. In this case it’s obvious that Arizona and their tribes are NOT working together at all to get their reservations in a normal thriving economic environment. It shouldn’t be this difficult, and it’s not just because of skin color. There are just as many caucasian women going missing at an alarming rate as well, BUT none of them check all the boxes to be nation wide news worthy like Gabby was. Gabby was a “good girl” with parents who were still happily married, siblings with no baggage of their own, an insane amount of friends, and an endless list of “good deeds” that she accomplished in her short life. Meaning Gabby had a spotless record. There are a few other things I believe contribute to this crisis, but I’ve already written a novel lol🪶🦅

U.S. General George Crook and his aide Captain John G. Bourke both fought
against the Native American tribes, then tried to make a lasting peace.
After the atrocities of Wounded Knee, Bourke authored two books "On the
Border With Crook" and "An Apache Campaign" but they also dealt with
the Lakota and Cheyenne. When he made peace, Crook knew the tribes
would have difficulty adjusting to reservation life. What bothered Bourke
most was giving the tribes the worst land to become ranchers or farmers.
He said that once proud tribes would become "wards of the state" and
other generals like Miles said even with their subsidies, they were being
cheated by the Indian agents. Believe it or not, George A. Custer testified
before Congress about the abuse! It is unfortunate that two of President
Grant's relatives were involved in the corruption but Grant was not.
Two treaties were signed by the Apache and the Lakota. The Apache
treaty with General O.O. Howard was never found. The Lakota one was
finally found but only after something like 100 years or so. Most Lakota
leaders say the amount owed is based on the 1900 $$ and not today's.
Our Nevada Senator Katherine Cortez-Mastos has authored a bill
which on paper is supposed to protect women on the Res from abuse
by their husbands and boy friends, often drunk. The problem is how to
enforce it. Writing good intended laws is much easier than making sure
they are enforced. I've heard all the excuses, lack of man power, lack of
money, lack of eye witnesses, lack of time and so forth. No one wants
to mention the lack of will. Most officers, when new want to be a hero
but after time they get burnt out. Often the very people they are trying
to help either hate or mistrust them. They could be afraid if they
complain too much, they'll lose their kids. I doubt if Senator Cortez-
Mastos will follow up to see how her legislation actually functions.
Someone will invent some other crisis to divert her attention more.
Thomas Jefferson said after every 10 to 20 years it should be
mandatory all laws should be reviewed to see if it is functioning
as intended. The Native Americans either don't vote or if they can

It's not just Natives and Alaskan Indigenous people going missing. A piece of paper is just that and won't stop anything. I know I was a victim of domestic abuse by my ex-husband and I had an Order of Protection and it meant nothing to him. There was also a No Contact Order against him for my daughter (technically ours but I don't agree since he wasn't a father anyway and never wanted to be) but that didn't stop him either. I'd call the police and they would sort glance around but that was it. I got the house in the divorce since he moved out anyway and I had my daughter but he burned it to the ground. Called the police and they said he could do what he wanted with his house. It wasn't his! The one officer wouldn't even get out of his cruiser. Yeah part of it was because his attorney was also the big wig judge in the town but still he should have been stopped. We had to move across country and not put in a change of address and other things for years because of him. The laws are there they're just not enforced!! That is what needs to change!

Thanks, Gabby (and the Florida TV station that made you a national story), your legacy goes on. I don't think it's skin color, but self rule on the tribal lands that hampers crime solving. Since so many of the young become ineligible to serve when they are old enough, the idea of providing structure, meaningful training and employment to potential police from the tribes before they get into trouble is a step forward. The fact that the governor wants to ask all the other states to pay for forensics for residents of her state is another symptom of the problem. DC clearly doesn't care about Arizona tribesfolk. How about setting up your own labs in Arizona and selling services to other tribes that don't have them? More honorable than casinos. More profitable than trading stations. Call Blackrock for funding for the labs and training. They need some good press. Trade schools and apprenticeships that start in middle school are also a good idea for tribal rehabilitation. It works for the Amish. Why should the tribes live in poverty and crime and hopelessness? Why should their humanity go to waste?

While I briefly lived in Flagstaff, I heard of Navajos buying trucks, putting
a down payment then driving it on the Res. never making another payment.
It can't be repossessed unless they catch them off the Res. Of course, they
      can only do it once.
I don't know much about their reservation, whether they had much
prospecting on it but in Arizona, California and Nevada there are
thousands of abandoned mine shafts to hide a body in. Not only that
in the nearby desert there are many mini caves which the coyotes
can use for their dens. Only if you hike frequently in the desert will
you know where they are. Predators like coyotes, bobcats, foxes, owls and
vultures will scatter the bones all over. Even if the body is buried in a
shallow grave, the critters will find it.
The desert can be a deceptive land. My Father and I walked about a
mile or two away from camp checking something out and came
straight back. My Mother looked straight at us but couldn't see us
although we walked up right. I was wearing a bright red shirt and
do not know how she missed us. No wonder the Apache eluded the
      U.S. Army for so long.

This is why America NEEDS a Advanced CCTV COORDINATED SYSTEM! Even if it doesn't stop crimes, it will greatly improve the ability to SOLVE crimes. We have such a high crime rate, yet we are so behind places like The UK or NZ, Etc. I'm shocked we haven't invested in CCTV. The fact our professional investigators rely on "hoping random ring doorbell cameras or something like that will be around" is ridiculous. They have to individually go to each business, House, Etc. And individually work on acquiring the surveillance footage. There is a lot of factors to this that can hinder a investigation, or the quality of the evidence, or being able to obtain the evidence at all. I hope we invest in a CCTV coordinated system soon. It could really improve how much we can at least find clues and leads in cases and crimes... We could work on this project state by state to make it less overwhelming then eventually connect them together as a well working organized system. Modern HD cameras are very affordable and I really think it's a totally achievable goal. It's well worth the investment, it will greatly improve our nation and our societies quality of life.

Allot has to do w/how things are handled on the reservations. The reservations have their own separate government over seen by the federal government on certain occasions. It's the communication between tribal lands & federal government quite often that dictate to how things are handled.
Most reservations don't like the involvement of the federal government into what they consider tribal business. And rightfully so bcuz all the federal government has done to the indigenous ppls has been horrific & unimaginable. There is no trust there & there shouldn't be either. The times when the federal government has intervened or taken over it often ends still with some form of miscarriage of justice just like you've seen in this news story. Media is THE last to know or hear of these things bcuz they are not permitted onto tribal lands unless the tribal counsel allows it.
Like I said, things on the Rez's operate much differently than they do for the rest of the country. Heck, most all Rez's don't even have broadband Wi-Fi for reporting these crimes either.

Missing White Woman syndrome. Media is a 💯 to blame honestly even though I am in media and mainstream media bias is rage inducing.

You need to carry on telling your story, it requires only one right person to begin sharing the story forward and after that, more people will become aware. Apparently you have been successful in your efforts because this video was made, shared and even watched here in Finland, in Europe. Keep on going. 💖🇫🇮

I hear about this all the time in the true crime community in the US and Canada. I can understand the anger and frustration from the lack of results. These are our loved ones, how dare they not find out what happened. My question is this .. there is a barrier of sovereignty that I never hear brought up. What I mean to say is that state police cannot just enter sovereign territory. There is dual jurisdiction and I think bad players exist and thrive in the grey areas. My heart goes out to anyone who’s heartbroken with the lack of closure.
