      Nabors family down the road split because the one sone wanted to update the farm simple things that would have saved money but the old man refused even the slightest change.
      I to also must battle with my parents about the small things, like insulating the water containers for the animals so the heaters work less. 3 years talking into on that project. already the power bills been cut by a quarter and all i have used is scrap around the property. Half rotten insulation form a fallen over chicken coop. ZERO expense to the farm on my part and yet they act like i have taken out a second mortgage.

    Hi Tom, picking up on your concern about having your pump damaged. Do you still have all those surplus tire's. . There is a farm by us that has them built up on the corners of there barns, buildings all around the base of the slurry tank to a height of about five feet. I am assuming it is to stop trailers damaging the buildings, when they turn a bit to tight . Might be worth you thinking of using them.🤔👍😉

    Who knew looking at a pit of slurry could be so interesting. In composting, there’s a difference between anaerobic and aerobic bacteria and it would seem that besides keeping it mixed the air bubbling through it would be beneficial by keeping it aerobic as well. Good way to help the farm at any rate.

    • @patpierce4854
      @patpierce4854 2 роки тому

      For awhile, I used to work in the wastewater industry. What folks don’t realize, is that the whole process of converting waste into clean, safe water, is a totally natural process that is sped up, by keeping everything stirred and aerated. Aerobic bacteria (“slurry bugs”) in Tom’s slurry tower, are closely related to the ones that break down household wastewater; they reduce the methane emissions as well as make the nitrogen more available to the grass in your fields. A single batch of those slurry bigs, will easily spread throughout your entire slurry system, and keep being effective going forward. The Ginger Warrior is so correct - this feeds the soil and benefits the farm for years into the future.

    It is so interesting what goes into farming. Watching these videos i find so factual and and amazed how much goes behind the scene and the science behind feeding the cows, sorting the slurry, the grass growing for the cows to eat and the crops that they grow for the silage. I didn’t realise until watching these videos how much effort that farmers put into everyday farming. I have even more respect for farmers, I’ve always respected farmers and how hard they work but I have even more respect now.

    That's brilliant , you'll be using good slurry which will encourage bacteria and soil borne organisms so you'll have better grass for grazing and forage . Love it . The ginger warrior seems enthusiastic .
    Good job 👍 🇬🇧

    Rhys must do a great Nigel Owens impression. Can we get him to say "This is not soccer!" The savings on fertilizer is awesome, esp if it means less dependence on the petrochemical sector.

    What are slurry bugs? When I grew up on the farm we didn't have any of those cool things that you have now. I love the way that thing created all that good soup! AMAZING!!! Thank you so much for all the videos!

    Tom, excellent decision to do the upgrade. Any chance you could do a tour of the current complete cycle of cows among the different buildings, including Nigel and the other bulls, calving, replacement of milking stock and any thing else? It would be quite a sight to see. Thank you.

    I dread to think how much the farm improvments have cost you this year!! Couldn't be happening to a better farm & farmer, nice to see someone with their head screwed on and not being wasteful with their money even though nobody would blame you for getting yourself a ford ranger with all the effort you put into everything 👍

    Wow wins all round save you money produces more and with the less methane even Greta will be happy. If you produce more grass do you think there will be a forth or fifth silage cut? Will you cows be out for longer with the better grass? You might be able to sell silage and make a Bob or two. Great video Tom and Andrew. I never learned as much than I have watching your videos cheers team Pemberton

    Aeration is used in sewage treatment works they also use Anaerobic digestion that’s where you catch methane gas and use it to heat the sludge also provide electricity to power the process.

    In the Netherlands, electric mixers are getting really popular. They can just put them on a timer and they will run for 15 minutes every 12 hours, or whatever you want.

    That’s a brilliant system and really cheap to run. Must save a lot of time when you don’t have to agitate the slurry before spreading! Love the vid!

    I’m skeptical about things like this, but the results look outstanding!
    It would have taken me a day with a whisk tractor and pump/cannon tractor running together to get that result, fantastic, big diesel and msn power saving.

    Hey Tom, first of all its a good idea to work on your slurry, but bubbling it up will gas out your nitrogen even more. Thats going into the air, and you will have significantly less N in your slurry.
    Every bit of air takes ammonium N with it.

  • @quadarinxxx
    @quadarinxxx 2 роки тому

    Next step for slurry is to add storage, so you only spread at the ideal times in the year? Get the maximum value out of the slurry by spreading it in spring and summer, and not during wet autumn/winter months.
    Can you add one more ring on top of the tower for example?
    Please take this as curious "loud thinking" from an exited subscriber, and not as an "order" from keyboard command! Hehe. Keep up the great work Tom.
