Great Video, I like the idea of the O2 barrier plus the heavy cover in one, thanks for sharing
Beautiful job well done best wishes for the winter feeding days 2024/2025 cheers Declan from Galway 👋👋
Be interesting to see how the pit fairs out with a cover with an oxygen barrier built in vs two covers under one roof. We cover our walls and two covers on top. Would like to try out the cover with biult in oxygen barrier and silocompactor to see the benefits vs our usual way of doing it. Whats your thoughts on this Andrew? Great video as always, keep it up
Two covers are 100% better, wasnt sure at first but I'm sure now.
After watching you last year I helped our neighbor with his clamp I did the buck raking and kept rolling he put more loads in the silo than ever and I still hadn’t gone above the walls normally his dad had it 3-4 feet above the wall over winter his silage was the best he’d made. I’ve got the clamping job again this year
You sound like someone I want to hire. 😅
@@FarmTheoryNI I have way too much going on to do any more we started farming in our own right and I run a cattle foot trimming business and also ai on a few local farms so everything is just busy like yourself
👍👍👍.
You could work with a front pushoff on the puma and compact reversing down
Would be an option but then to get the required tonnage rolling the pit when they're running flat out with 4 or more trailers. You would need a second tractor compactor and buck rake. Better to have the loader the rest of the year
@@andythewelder6181 loader is handy👌
We always have one man in each machine.
Lovely silo
Good silo
how many acres of grass have you put in and whats your silage pit dimensions?
Thumbs up even if you are loving the orange cover 😅 great content and editing , keep it up!
I love that it’s still a JF even though it’s not a JF 😂😂 Great Video Andrew.
Your right the compactor is a great investment
Have you ever thought of using secure covers instead of tyres?
I get very good results of using side sheets with a single black sheet on top with the secure covers then gravel bags around the outside. I have to open it again twice to put second and third cut on top so make it as easy as possible. It gets a double layer of big straw bales after third cut.
I havnt, I might buy some more gravel bags
Is the orange side not supposed to be on the silage and the black side on top or does it not matter?
I think it doesn't matter, silostop claim it's orange side up.
What was the video about again Andrew?? I was busy enjoying the soundtrack!😂
your sheet is upside down the black side should be facing up but i dont know if its better
Company says orange side up. 🤷
@@FarmTheoryNI does it 🤦♂️
Where do you buy silostop clover in tyrone
FaneValley stores will order it in for you!
Hi Andrew Now is the tine for a Jimny v Lada drag race on your steepest silage field💪
You will have to wait until after third cut! 😅
Great vid
Never seen a pit being covered, so really interesting. Would probably be more environmentally friendly to re-use the cover for more than a year, but in the scale of things, not going to save the planet just with that!!
It's actually very little plastic considering it's a once a year job.
Have you any thoughts on the silage safe system?
I heard its a bit of a faff
How much is a descent price for a compactor?
Mine was £8k in 2022
Why ye bringing half loads ??
Not sealed down the sides and along the front🤔
Did u ever see a good hen flicking😊
You need a 457s. Two job in one❤😅😅
Might price one. 😅
Other than the obvious, what would you have a pit with a roof? Seems very expensive for what it delivers?
It's excellent! Once anyone builds one they build more, that's the proof of how useful it is.
No spashing of horrible water from moving the tyres is worth a roof on its own. A hole in the cover will ruin a minimal amount of silage, compared to a missed hole that is rained on.
Its more pleasant taking the covers off, no rain running down your neck. Great place for kids to play if there are a few busted small square bales to fall on to. I could go on :-)
👍👍👍.
Should be interesting to see 8f the single piece product works better.
What’s the “theory” not bringing the tyres up with the buckrake like everyone else?🤔🤷♂️
Brings in dirt
You don't put cover on the walls why
It's a mess on winter
Great video again Andrew 👏
Can you tell me why people use a tipping buckrake and not a push off buckrake? Flicking, tipping and travelling at the same time always looks like it's a power sapping affair not to mention wear on pins and bushes, a push off buckrake seems a far more efficient way when climbing a pit in my eyes and not so stressful on a machine. Just being curious, is it just farmers preference or are push offs very expensive?
Cheers 🍻 👍
Full loads optional😂
It was a relaxed morning. 😅
Making it easier for the new guy on the pit 😂
👍👍🙏🙏🇮🇪🇮🇪💪💪
