Sensational Hangry Fam! Every time I think, I've been to Kyoto a few times now, I don't need to go again, I realise we've only just scratched the surface. You've come up with the perfect intro to Kyoto! You were there before Japan re-opened right? Because it didn't look crowded at all. It looks like Kyoto 10 or 15 years ago - in winter 😂 If you want to see how crowded it got just before covid I have a couple of Kyoto vids now. You even had shots at Inari without any people. 😂 Amazing. But even as crowded AF I still couldn't recommend Kyoto more. Great job Hangry Fam!
Thanks so much, Shane 🥰 I think no matter where in Japan and how many times you've been, there's always more to discover hehe. It was our second time in Kyoto and we still need to go back again to tick more off the list we haven't yet covered. Yup, we were there before Japan reopened, it was definitely a lot quieter compared to when we visited in 2018. We're determined to go back to Inari next time and do the entire circuit! Thanks so much for watching 😊
First off- Great tips and video! Fun fact: Fushimi Inari is open 24/7 (the grounds) so if you go anytime after sunset it is considerably more quiet....be aware of when the last train leaves though or you might end up having to take an expensive taxi to get home. The lighting also isn't the greatest so carry a flashlight or two and some extra batteries. Finally realize that there will be no vendors open / nor will the shrine itself be open so you will not be able to purchase anything from them (charms, etc.) I would recommend either going TWICE once during the day and once at night OR going really early in the morning (depending on how far you want to hike) then when you come down you can enjoy the temple during the day. Kyoto station is amazing. When I went in 2017 the stairs were not lighted (I guess I have to go back now lol), but I did go to the very top of the stairs as there is a rooftop "Happy Terrace" where there is a garden with bamboo, decent views of the trains coming and going as well as views of Kyoto Tower. Along the way you can see a complete lego version of Kyoto Station, unfortunately I don't recall what floor it was on other than it's not on the bottom floors.
I have just finished my 2nd day in Kyoto and already this is my favourite city in the world! I would also recommend the nijo castle and Tenryuji temple that is also located in the Arashiyama area
I managed to see one around 3 am. Kyoto also has a center where they do performances. The performance includes different cultural performances, like a tea ceremony, Kabuki, and even a geisha performance. Just in case you don't want to miss seeing a real geisha
Can I just say how much I loved and appreciated this video?! I miss Kyoto and I can’t wait to go back. Your video brought back so many memories. I’m definitely going to try out that hotel you recommended next time I’m there. I subscribed to your channel and can’t wait to see more of your videos :)
Really enjoy your videos! We are from Los Angeles, US and will be going to Tokyo in January. I was wondering if we need adaptors for charging our iPhones and laptops when we are in Tokyo. Thank you.
I am planning my trip to Kyoto (3 days) but I think it may not be enough. I've watched so many itineraries but this one is among the best. EVERYTHING IS CLEAR WITH REAL VIBES.
I just did a 3-day trip to Kyoto. It can be done to cover the major attractions. It requires careful planning. 1) maximize the day by going to the sites that open early in the morning (Arashiyama bamboo forest opens all day); 2) need to have ample cash because Japanese bank ATMs do not accept most foreign bank cards. One can get cash from 7-11 with hefty fee; 3) sign up for Suica pass on one's smartphone if one plans to use public transportation; 4) try to stay around the Kyoto station region if you plan on using public transportation because bus, train and subway all go through that station. This was my itinerary: day1 morning - Arashiyama Bamboo Forest, Tenryu-ji, Katsura River and bridge, day1 afternoon - Ginkaku-ji, Ryoan-ji; day2 morning - Ginkaku-ji, Philosopher's path, Nanzen-ji, Water Bridge, day2 afternoon Kiyomizu-dera and the shops along the Sanneizaka and Nineizaka; day3 morning - Fushimi Inari Taisha. Pick out a few more sites one wants to visit in case if time permits. At night, one can visit Yasaka Shrine and the Gion region. There are plenty of restaurants in the region boxed between Sanjo (#3) and Shijo (#4) bridges on both sides of the river banks.
Thanks for this awesome itinerary! I'm in Kyoto for 4 days and I'm actually following this guide. Day 1 in the books and I can't wait for tomorrow. Thanks so much for making this!
Great content - thanks a lot, loved it :) How did you get to Arashiyama Bamboo forest? by train? and where did you get on/off Sagano Romantic train? thanks in advance :)

Hello Hangry Fam! I’m so glad I came across this. I'll be visiting Kyoto this fall and plan to follow the same itinerary as in the video. I have a question and hope you can help. I want to visit all the temples and shrines but prefer to explore on my own without a guided tour. For the temples and shrines that require an admission fee, can I purchase tickets on site? I tried to find advance tickets for Kiyomizu-dera Temple but only found tours online. Klook also only offers tour packages. Can you or anyone else help me with this? Thank you in advance! 😊
I really enjoyed this video. I can't wait to visit Japan, so these are great recommendations. At the very top of my bucket list is to travel through Asia
After being on the fence whether I should make Kyoto a day trip or to stay there for a few days, this video has definitely convinced me to stay there for at least 3 days. Thank you for the informative video!
Love these series of videos. Have a trip for 2023 so slowly but surely adding stuff to try! Quick question, were you renting the bike all 3 days or just the 2nd 🙂just not sure if you can or should bike everywhere
Thanks so much 😊 The first time we visited Kyoto, we rented an electric bicycle for 5 days, and this time, we rented one for 2 days. It's definitely super easy to cycle everywhere, it's just that you can't park your bicycle in many places. You have to find bike parking (usually paid in popular tourist areas).
Thanks for watching! We did mention we used rental bikes in the video. The activities are pretty scattered around Kyoto. The best way to tackle this is to use google maps app and it'll show the best route with which train or bus depending on the location. Also the timings and possible walking required. Hope that helps.

Love the vid - I'm looking at staying at the Mecure Kyoto, the hotel you stayed in. It looks like they only allow for one child per room, when you stayed did you have to get two rooms or is there a way to get two young children into the one room? Thanks!
Thanks so much for the reply! Just a general question (a perhaps a good topic for a short video), I have similar aged kids, in general, does one Japan hotel room fit you both and the kids? Or do you normally get two rooms? If one room ever works what type of room would you recommend/have you tried and how good is the quality of the sleep compared to getting two rooms? Thanks again, I’m a massive fan of all the content you’ve created, it has really helped me plan!

Hello, newbie here. Coming back to Japan in a week, since 2020 we have not been there. Kyoto is our first stop, and even though we have seen most that you mention, I cannot wait to reexperience it. We were in Kyoto 2018 and we could not go through Inari taisha because the typhoon made it close down, but will go this time!!! Thank you for all the super helpful tips!
I am currently trying to plan my first trip to Japan. What is the best time of year to go in your opinion?? I’ll admit, I’ve researched it and I’m getting contradicting answers 😅
I think for us, for easy packing is nicer weather during either spring or autumn. Just make sure to avoid any holiday times during then especially spring because it gets insanely busy for golden week, cherry blossom time and spring break. Also around the world school holiday time i think Easter is then too.
Hi, I am wondering where you book for the train ride? Regarding the bike rental, where do you leave your bike when you need to get off? Is it convenient to return the bike?
Hi Diana, thanks for watching! You can use klook to book the train and as for the bikes, there are a lot of bike parking spots. Some of the are free and some are paid spots (really cheap). You can get a map of them from the bike provider or google maps. Returning is usually where you pick it up from.
Amazing video as ever!! My mom and I will be visiting Osaka and Kyoto booked for July! I'm so excited to visit the places you've mentioned in your video!! I'll try to document it as well to inspire others as how you inspire all of us to travel..
This is my first time watching one of your videos, I loved it! I'm a new subscriber haha. One of my biggest dreams is to go to Japan, it's such a beautiful place! I could watch this type of videos for hours and get lost in a daydream. I would absolutely love to add Spanish subtitles to this video so more people can watch it! If that's something you'd be interested in, please let me know! Love from Argentina 🤗
Taxis can get quite expensive. Riding bikes around is a good option. You can find bike rental places that provide kids seats too. Otherwise public transport is also ok to use. Just use Google maps to help you navigate them. It lets you know the timing, which ones to catch and how much. Hope that helps.
Haha request noted. We'll have to visit Sapporo first, which will have to be next year 😁 Haha Japan forces you to walk a lot so I guess it kind of balances out?
As a local Japanese, I think you should make video about manners sightseeing in Japan. Don't just show bunch of places to visit. Kyoto prefecture is pretty pissed with the foreigners without manners.
Hi! I'm your new subscriber here love the energy and positivity of your vlogs 🎊 Actually I would like to ask you a question because I will be going to osaka this february with my mom. And somehow we really want to go to Kiyomizu temple,Sagano Romantic train,Fushimi Inari & Gion district is this 4 places near with each other ? Also I would just like to ask if I would be from namba osaka going to kiyumizu temple via taxi how long do you think would it take ? And Sorry for the long question just really having a hard time because its my first time going on tour with my mom only without any of my siblings. Thank you thank you in advance for helping. Much love from PH 🇵🇭❤️
Hi Charles and thanks for subscribing! I think my best advice would be to go on tour from Osaka to get most of those things you want done. I know Klook has these one day tours like what we mentioned in this video. Here's a link for example and it also leaves from Osaka. www.klook.com/en-AU/activity/6241-nanzen-ji-fushimi-inari-taisha-sagano-romantic-train-day-tour/?aid=3597 I wouldn't recommend getting a taxi as they are quite expensive in Japan. A tour will also make it easier traveling with your mom as it covers transports, getting around with a guide and tour is sorted for you. Hope that helps Charles! Have fun when you visit ✌️🥳

If you want to see the “real” geiko and maiko, you need to head to Gion around 5-6pm….that is the only time you’ll see them walking around the area.
That makes sense. We were in Gion in the middle of the day haha.
You’re also not supposed to film or take photos in that neighborhood….

Also around the world school holiday time i think Easter is then too.
I am going in March can you share information on how to book the restaurant that you highly recommend Kichi Kichi Omurice thanks.
You can book via their website. There's English instructions too.

Can I use a cc Kyoto?? Is it really all cash everywhere? 😢thx
Thank you for all the info! Hoping to go next year 🤞🏼 btw Tina, where did you get your backpack?
I hope you get to go next year as well 🤞I got it from TK Maxx in Australia hehe it's a Nautica mini backpack.
@@HangryByNature I dont think its on Klook anymore :/ if it is, can you please share the link?
Amazing video as ever!! My mom and I will be visiting Osaka and Kyoto booked for July! I'm so excited to visit the places you've mentioned in your video!! I'll try to document it as well to inspire others as how you inspire all of us to travel..
Did you get the Sagano romantic train from Arashiyama station to Kameoka station? Because it seems like you're getting away from Kinkaku-Ji.
Love from Argentina 🤗
how do you get from Arashiyama Bamboo Forest to Kinkakuji Temple
With toddles (3 and 6) how do you suggest getting around Kyoto? I am thinking of just paying the extra costs and taxing everywhere.
Taxis can get quite expensive. Riding bikes around is a good option. You can find bike rental places that provide kids seats too. Otherwise public transport is also ok to use. Just use Google maps to help you navigate them. It lets you know the timing, which ones to catch and how much. Hope that helps.
How to get ticket to this sagano romantic train?
I believe I saw that you have kids as well? How many and was the mercure kyoto ok with 2 adult / 2 kids (under 10 each)?
hmmm,.... I would visit the kanji museum in Gion and then hike up to Doshisha Cemetery ... with no doubt no foreign tourists here ...
Request - Sapporo Itinerary!! Also, how do you guys stay in shape after eating all that food!!! 😅
Haha request noted. We'll have to visit Sapporo first, which will have to be next year 😁 Haha Japan forces you to walk a lot so I guess it kind of balances out?
What is the name of the Oyster 🦪 place? Ty for sharing your videos!
Hi there! It’s called Daiyasu and it’s inside Nishiki Market. If you type “oysters Nishiki market” into google, you’ll find it 😊
@@HangryByNature ty so much! Very excited about our trip (with kids) in April!
may i know where and how much is the bicycle rental?

I wouldn't recommend getting a taxi as they are quite expensive in Japan. A tour will also make it easier traveling with your mom as it covers transports, getting around with a guide and tour is sorted for you.
Hope that helps Charles! Have fun when you visit ✌️🥳
Which month specifically did you visit Kyoto ? Appreciate your response.
what time did you visit?
