Did you know she has a tour on byFood where you get to spend an afternoon in Harajuku with her? www.byfood.com/experiences/harajuku-food-tour-with-shizuka-street-food-663
I agree with you. To be fair, it has to be said that people are simply not enlightened and are not maliciously doing it wrong. Nevertheless, it is not difficult to feel embarrassed for tourists, especially in Kyoto.
Gion is one of the best parts of Kyoto. Instead of banning, they should allow tourists by permit for a fee, and in the permit is read do not engage with geisha.
Just got back from Kyoto. We sought out a small local restaurant deep in the Gion district. One lady was doing everything! From cooking to taking orders, cashing out and bussing the table. It was great!
Just wanted to say Arigato, Shizuka, for all your tours, tips and insights before and while we were in Japan! Your recommendations and descriptions were spot-on and we enjoyed it all! You all do such a wonderful and respectful job introducing us to this very special country! (We were secretly hoping we’d run into you!)
I went to Kyoto on my first trip to Japan just before the pandemic swept over the world and I haven't been able go go back (I plan to go back next year). Kyoto was by far my favorite city to visit and I actually spent time there twice during my month long trip. The first time I got there during a typhoon so I didn't had much luck exploring Kyoto so I stopped by on my way back from Hiroshima before I had to go home. And I definitely fell in love with Kyoto. I only scratched the surface but I found a lot of fun places that few tourists had found so I was happy. Every night i sat down by the river and just enjoyed the moment. I was watching the restaurants on the balconies and wondered how it would be to actually sit there instead. Now I know how to try that one out next time at least so thank you for this. That BBQ place looked wonderful but expensive. 😍 Trying local food is the best thing with traveling. You experience new and interesting tastes and beautiful dishes. That is one of my favorite thing to do. I also love food markets, I can roam around them for hours. You must have the best job in the world! Trying out and promoting food in Japan. Where do I sign up? 😃 Thank you for a nice video as always!
Love this video. Thank you so much. Hopefully, we will visit Kyoto sometime in the future. You are so cheerful and happy. Every week I look forward to your new video.
Shizuka, this is a beautiful video with an essential tip for us. I love the river and the wonderful view from the restaurant's top. The barbequed meat looks so good, my mouth is watery lol.💌❤ By the way, I love your dress!
I actually don't pay much attention to things like clothing in your videos. But Shizuka's dress is so beautiful that I noticed it immediately. Thanks for the next nice video to start the new week.😊
Yes Gion is beautiful and along the kamo river we ate near there too!! Amazing outlook!! I feel if there is an influx of tourist as we all know in main places like Tokyo Osaka Kyoto they really need more bins that’s my feel ? Nice vid guys!!, ✌🏻
Always elegant and classy. Such a talent, all the episodes and never a drop of shoyu on a blouse or dress. Don’t know how you do it without a bib? Impressive. My wife and will be traveling to Nikko next month . Need to check any recommendations from there. I live in Japan now, but have been going to Kyoto since 1984 for business travel. Probably my favorite city in the world. Keep teaching us where to go!
I echo a previous comment from a viewer, Shizuka is a gem and certainly would love ❤️ to have a beer and a bit of food with this lovely lady. I bet the conversation would be stellar.
Nice Tips 👍 I didn't know they had these prohibitions in Kyoto, but it's great to know some things about this place, I've never been and I intend to visit as many times as I can. Thank you
Thanks for the video! It's very sad that rules had to be put into place because of tourists while I completely understand why it just is sad to see that the few disrespectful people have ruined experiences for those who respect locals laws and people. I never got to visit Kyoto last time I was in Japan ( before the new rules and restrictions) but my wife and I will be visiting Japan in the fall and Kyoto is part of our plans, she has never been to Japan so I am definitely looking forward to showing her the beauties of one of my favorite countries in the world! :)
I remember seeing a Geisha whilst I was walking around Gion during my first trip to Kyoto back in 2013. I just respectfully admired her from a distance in those brief few seconds before she vanished.
Really enjoyed learning things in this video! I think it's a great idea to remind people to support geisha and maiko groups. I really want to try the matcha sesame tofu!
Amazing video from my favorite channel! and very informative 😊 thanks lord shizzy. I wish people had more common sense before hand so there would not be a ban. It is what it is but I hope it changes eventually.
I don't know if you guys have already shown yuba restaurants. We visited 2018 Japan and i had a long list of food that i would like to try and one of them was yuba. We had a stunning yuba course in a Kyoto restaurant called "Yuba Higashiyama Yuuzu". Highly recommend trying it. The stuff was super friendly, fast and polite 10/10 My spouse and me are watching this channel for a few years now and we really enjoy watching your content. Greetings from germany
We have featured Yuba in one of our other Kyoto videos! It is a super old and absolutely beautiful restaurant selling Yuba for generations! Please check:)
That lady who went around taking pictures of the geisha is not cool. Imagine being chased around with some one with a camera like a celebrity and their paparazzi. Crazy ridiculous the behavior with absolute zero regard to local rules. Am I just getting old and cranky? No. It is the world that is behaving ridiculously, haha. Also, great job Shizuka! You communicated the rules professionally and delicately. And the beer spot looks amazing! Imagine an entire cup of foam....
The opening background music is the same one used by Rion Ishida for his videos! Made me wonder if he could be a guest tour guide here in JBF! Anyway, our first visit in Kyoto last year was simply magical. We visited Fushimi Inari Taisha and the rarely featured Toei Kyoto Studio Park (which is a huge treat for Tokusatsu fans like me).
I really enjoyed this video. Thank you. When I see 'tourists have been banned' from certain streets in Kyoto - does that mean banned from taking photography? Or are tourists not allowed to walk down some of the streets in Gion now?

October November might be the busiest months due to the autumn season, still worth the visit!

Litter here and here and there. That IS the tourists.
Kamogawa is a popular drinking spot so even locals trash the place when they get drunk unfortunately 😭
Visited Kyoto before. Great place. Please visit "The Restaurant of Mistaken Orders" someday. Looks like a cute place
Ohhhh we have heard of that place! Would definitely want to visit!
I'm sure it's in another video of By Food, but I'm surprised okonomiyaki aren't featured here. I had one in Kyoto that changed my life.
We usually go for okonomiyaki in Osaka but we are sure Kyoto okonomiyaki is delicious! Mind sharing the name of the place?
Nice video, thanks. A little too much beer drinking during the day for me, and I thought it odd the restaurants didn't have any other customers.

My least favorite of the big brands. My favorite is Sapporo. That said, the crispness is Asahi is great on a hot day.
I miss Kyoto. I miss the Kamokawa riverside cafes and restaurnts. Sigh!
Our favorite place!
Can Shizuka tell us where the dress is from tho!! 😍
What’s good to do in Kyoto during winter? We’re planning a trip in December.
You can still do pretty much everything! But indoor activities you might wanna consider are a geisha experience, tea ceremony, cooking class, nijo castle museum and so much more!
The fall leaves may still be out early in the month. Especially in the hills outside city centre.
nice video, as always. nice dress too. may you tell us where it's from?
We wonder too!
I was in Gion last week and I thought the street closures were confusing. In December 2022, there were short wood barriers blocking the small alleyways, which made it clear that it was a private street. Now, the barriers are gone and people were wandering into the alleys. People may be able to guess that a public street has road signs and private alleys do not, but that's only if you're observant.,
I think you can still visit the streets but you just can't take pictures of the houses and stuff like that.
