Good tool! This type tool has been around for centuries. It's called a 'lap clamp', or 'lapstrake clamp'. It is commonly used in boatbuilding to secure clinker style planks for clinch nailing.
Yes, slightly. Enough to matter? Probably not. The outside edge of the "C" is under compression; the inside under tension. To minimize weakening, move the capture holes outboard and use a smaller diameter 'pin' e.g. a roll pin. A large spring between the boards near the clamp, arranged to push the boards appart, teamed with magnets within the padding blocks will help with handling/wrangling, and storage.
¡Exelente !
The bolts should be placed on the outside edges of the wood to give it more strength. You've drilled them in the middle. This gives the clamp equal force in closing as in opening. But since you're not using it for opening, they can basically be as close to the outside edge as needed to keep them from falling off.
Usally a board should be enough, I totally agree. However, I faced situation while restoring furniture where clamps that could reach deep inside e.g. a tabletop to reglue a piece of veneer were needed. A board would not give you enough clamping pressure here. Though for most people and jobs it is unnessecary for some tasks clamps like these are really helpful.
The example didn't show an accurate need for the tool he built. However, for me this was helpful. Imagine trying to clamp a brace or bridge plate inside a guitar body. You need a long clamp, but there is not room inside the guitar to just "lay a board across and clamp both sides. Specific tools are helpful for specific circumstances. There are clamps with very long throats to do just as I described, this guy just built one out of wood using a regular clamp...but it is a needed tool in the right circumstance...
Гениальное решение!Браво.
One of the better tool videos I've seen! Useful, easy to build and I've been needing a few of these. May build them tomorrow! Thank you!
A clamp everyone can use and fairly easy to make using good strong wood. I think I should make a couple for my shop.
Thanks for the video~!

Extraordinário. Parabéns
My friend, the Super...
Neat idea, doesn't need music.
good idea
Nice idea. Only problem I can see would this weaken the clamp.
The clamping pressure 9 inches from the steel clamp would not be much

Nice!
Beautiful
Great yet so simple idea..
Why not just lay a board across and then clamp on both sides? Video is SO long.
Absolutely right... !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Brady Doepke i was wondering the same thing. Cool idea, at the cost of a good clamp
