      Do Web Publishers also pay good to average games that they host? Or only hit games get to make good money? Do you have any numbers that you can give to someone who haven't done any web games before?

    There is one advantage of Windows Store and that is that some versions of Windows - usually in some schools etc. - don't allow for installing anything from outside of Windows Store. But that's probably still more relevant to software than games.

    Good vid! Not just Mac/Win store - check the genres & demographics of any platform to see if you match. You can find some real "blue oceans" that way. Few devs take the time to jump through hoops, but if you build your systems through a shim - like a generic layer for achievements, saves, etc - it's more straightforward to build for add'l platforms.
    Still have to consider the cost of labor and whether it's worth it to actually support that platform/those users moving forwards. A lot of platforms require you to keep up with their changes annually.

    • @orangepixelgames
      @orangepixelgames  Місяць тому +1

      Yup, and as mentioned, my main issue is that I need all my games there to sometimes reach payout thresholds. So that's often a lot of work to get it onto a 'new' store. So many things to consider, but I do feel like many devs ignore it too much!

    I tend to set my payout thresholds to minimum, helps avoid accounting issues at year-end when transactions rollover. But hadn't thought about non-US devs - is it the bank charging a forex fee, or something your gov't is doing?

    But I’ve also heard that those two Mac users have money! 😂

    • @mandisaw
      @mandisaw Місяць тому

      It's a trade-off. Every add'l platform means integrating their API/features, "localizing" for their look & feel (UI names & buttons), and support & maintenance for as long as you'll be on that store. My exp has been that Mac & iOS users need a lot more support than Windows & Android users, and Apple itself is increasingly hostile to small devs.
      Plus now you've got multiple chip architectures (Intel & M-series) and new graphics systems (Metal) to build/debug for.
      So yeah, maybe Mac & iPhone users _might_ have more money, but if it costs you more in labor to build for them than you'd ever make back due to smaller numbers, then it's not worth it. Most gamers on MacOS use a Windows emulator like Wine anyway. (Same is true for Linux.)
