I have to say thank you for being so genuine and real. All the other 24-hour videos I’ve seen have been so frustrating to watch. The mother’s in those videos seem to have a “perfect” life where the schedule goes as plan and the baby never cries and always sleeps. I even saw a video where the mother has time to bath and exercise. It makes me ask myself “what am I doing wrong?” So again, thank you so much for posting this…I felt like a failure as a new mom, but your video reassured me that motherhood is not easy but worth it! ❤️

This is the most realistic video that I’ve seen! The other newborn or a bit older DITL videos show perfect angel babies that sleep in their own crib with perfectly rested moms. It makes me feel like a failure, but at least I feel like we’re in it together! I have a 1.5 week old;)

I started tearing up watching you rocking Jackson and trying multiple times to lay him down. It reminded me of rocking my son when he was little and all the times I’d lay him down and he’d wake up and I’d have to try over and over... it’s motherhood and it’s so beautiful. Your doing such an amazing job, your a fantastic mom even when you don’t feel like it.

My baby is 7 weeks old and I have never been so exhausted in my life!! Sometimes I feel guilty that I'm too tired to be enthusiastic and get the smiles and giggles that her dad can bring out of her. Definitely the hardest thing I've ever done, and I used to work full time and go to college at night. It's good to know I'm not alone, and that even with a wonderful baby, it can be a struggle sometimes. 💗

Amy Mallett from the hospital I didn’t know anything about babies and I asked my nurse when should I do everything like changing feeding burping I didn’t have a clue lol she told me to feed her every three hours and to change her before feedings so she would have a fresh diaper and would be comfortable while feeding. So I’ve had her on a schedule since birth. Feed every 3 hrs regardless of whether it’s day and night for the first 3 months then after drop a feeding at night as you increase the amount of milk they drink during the day. Less feeding at night more milk during the day. I googled sleep schedules and feeding schedules and followed them as she got older and that has helped me so much. Even now she’s 15 months I still do a schedule with just one nap during the day and 11 hr stretch of sleep at night. A good resource is takingcarababies on Instagram she helps with sleeping issues.

I have a 3mo and was feeling like a bad mom because she watches me do house chores, she mostly naps on me, and she sleeps in my bed at night where I constantly nurse her back to sleep. Momma, that makes you and I both. Today was one of those days where I felt horrible - the most I've done is get a change of clothes and everything else is just a blur. Many of my mommy friends have the "perfect" babies that sleep all night in their cribs, and they eat on a schedule etc. So this vid helped lift a massive load off my shoulders

Same here! I’m 2,5 month old baby girl’s mum, some days we have nice walk, cool dinner, play etc and some days I feel I’m spending 100% on trying to make her sleep. The more she cannot the more mad she is, the more I’m stressed. Don’t know how many times I was just crying along with her. Being mum is hard! So worth it all but not easy

I would suggest putting his bed on an incline on his head as he may have silent reflux and when lying on his back his acid rises and hurts his throat. Ditch the swaddle and make the room very very dark. If he is fine in the carrier it may be that he upright. We have the same age baby x

My son was born a few days before yours, he was exactly the same as Jackson not wanting to nap, having to be rocked and put down multiple times, and sometimes just skipping naps all together. Same with night he would wake up so many times and I’d have to have him in my bed. I got so sick of not being able to sleep and having to rock him to sleep I transitioned him out of the swaddle into a sleep sack and sleep trained him using the Ferber method, he did so well so fast with it I was so amazed! Now he can put himself to sleep pretty easily sometimes cries lightly at bedtime but it’s so much easier on me. Maybe it’s time you try to sleep train him? I know you wanted to wait till 6 months, but that’s a long time to have to sleep like this! My sons crib is also in our room still. I love watching you and your beautiful family also. I hope things start to get easier with you and Jackson. ❤️

    Hi Kayla!
I would definitely try to put him down for his naps in a dark room. And try to put him down drowsy - not asleep. You also mentioned that he sleeps 30 minutes on average. That is absolutely normal at this age - he still cannot consolidate sleep cycles (1 cycles usually lasts about 30 minutes at that age). My LO sleeps 30 minutes on average as well (he's about a week older than Jackson). After 4th month babies try to consolidate sleep cycles - the naps should start getting longer from that point on.

I have a three month old and I stopped swaddling after her first month. She just cannot stand it, so she sleeps tru her naps like a star fish lol but to sleep at night she sleeps on her tummy. I know doctors do not recommend it but it's the most comfortable position for her and I can't do anything to change it. The only issue I have with my little girl is her schedule, she will fall asleep at 2 am!! And them she sleeps for 5 hours. I'm working on that.

My sleep journey with my son was very, very similar. It could be so demoralizing and plain exhausting. I tried almost everything. But just ended up co-sleeping until he was 1 yr old. I know everyone flames on it, but you have to do what you can to keep your sanity.
When my boy was 10-12 months I converted his crib (that he never slept in) to a toddler bed and pulled it up flesh to my bed. So I’d rock him to sleep and then shift him over in his bed. If he woke up, I’d put him back in his crib and pretend to sleep. I did this until he understood that he slept the there.
But I know you sleep trained Riley, so ignore all that. Lol!

Hi Kayla. Just saw your video and I really like your realistic life with Jackson. I have 3 month and 22 days baby boy. I also had trouble with his daytime's sleep. I also using a carrier so that he could sleep longer. But now I try to put him on the bed after rocking him to sleep. The longest time he could sleep is 30 mins. And I have to do it for 5-6 times / day so that he can get enough sleep. Sometimes, I will just carry him so that he can sleep more. We don't have routine because it always changed everyday. Sometimes, I feel like a loser and exhausted but seeing his face and smile give me strength to continue living our life. I believe that every mom have their own difficulties dealing with their children. Stay strong mommies!

Have you considered a sleep sack instead of a swaddle or swaddling him with his arms out or is there not enough room in the Snoo for him to turn over safely, should he decide to do so? Generally cribs are safer for rolling. Or maybe even try just one arm out? By the way, did you tilt the Snoo so that he's not flat since he seems to hate flat? He struggles so much physically to poop that maybe he is scared he won't be able to writhe enough to get the job done if restricted, confined. He cannot articulate that in words. But as a tiny animal, he has fears that cannot be articulated and some would involve confinement, strictures. He is probably not having that many startle reflex episodes anymore. On the other hand, how would you know because he doesn't sleep long enough at night for you to notice when that happens, but then he soothes himself back to sleep. Jackson just may never settle until he's in a crib in his room and cannot no longer see, hear, smell you during the night. Your bedroom is pretty bright for sleep. You'll have to try things and see what happens during the upcoming sleep regression and developmental leap. He does crack me up with the little partial scowl on his brow with his chin planted on his chest, doubling it. Too funny. Oh, check out the look on his face during tummy time! That baby is observing all that he can get into as soon as he figures out how to move from that spot. He is not missing a thing. LOL. It's hard to tell on an edited vlog, but you do seem to pick him up quickly when he starts to grumble while awake in the Mama Roo or when he complains and kicks in the Snoo. Lots of babies begin to let you know they are hungry or don't want to take this nap you're insisting upon by grumbling a bit. Does his always escalate into screaming of some duration? He has been so sweet and grumbled some today. And we haven't had a poop vigil! LOL. Jackson seems to love his bath. And, again, note he is at an incline while being bathed. His laugh is sweet, but he looked scared when Riley screamed. That noise was not a happy or funny one to him. He is a smart, alert baby. Is it possible he does not stay awake for 2-3 hours because he is not taking long enough naps that include a full sleep cycle now and then throughout the day? He really did look tired again when you had Riley say goodnight to us. How many ounces is he drinking at a feed? He should be able to hold enough in his belly to sleep longer now. It's hard to tell when nursing the baby. Oh Kayla, this is so hard. But I am concerned about his eating and sleeping habits for his sake, too. If something brilliant occurs to me that we've all overlooked, I'll let you know. I'll keep praying.

Hi Kayla, I loved this video! My baby was born on the 12th of December and she is exactly like little Jackson! She never naps in her bassinet either and always just wants to sleep in my arms, you are so patient trying to get him to sleep in the Snoo, I hope he starts to like it soon but I definitely know how hard it is, we have this beautiful bassinet for our daughter and she just wants to sleep on me! But I am loving every minute and cherish every snuggle with her. I actually just discovered that she too likes to sleep on my bed so I feed my baby and then leave her to nap on the bed at least I can have usually about an hour to get things done which is great, I think the warmth of the bed after I have just fed her helps a lot and maybe that is why they don't love the bassinet naps because it is cold and they prefer to me warm with their Mama :)
My baby too sleeps in bed with me during the night and we have had some super fussy nights lately too so I know what you are going through! It is so nice to see you and your family and know that I am not going through this all alone, especially during this time with the Coronavirus and we can't even get out to Mother's groups or to visit Grandma. You're doing amazing! Well done. I love that it's a realistic video and I wish I had seen more videos like this before I had my baby (he's 9 months now) but during these stages I struggled so bad as I had never seen content where it showed what it was truly like. I would have been slightly more prepared mentally but anyway....lol

I watched you through my pregnancy and now I have a baby girl who just turned 3 months. I love watching your videos so that I feel like I have a friend who’s going through the same thing. Keep going mama you got this!!!
Just a thought, maybe try unswaddling him? My girl was like this in her first few weeks and when we took her out of her swaddle she slept beautifully. That’s when we realised she loves having her arms out and she moves quite a lot in her sleep. She only wakes up for her feeds every 3.5-4 hours and falls right back asleep xxx

I wish I had found your channel when I had a newborn. My son and Jackson are so similar in every way. My son never slept in his bassinet. Our record was 40mins. And at 3 months he took 45 min naps, down to the second. So watching this video I feel so justified. I got judged from family and friends and I took his problems with sleeping on to myself. It’s was my fault why he doesn’t sleep in a bassinet, my fault that he doesn’t sleep through the night, my fault why he spits up so much. Seeing your videos makes me feel like I did what I had to do and there is nothing wrong with them. Our babies are perfect , they just need a little help in the sleep dept.

This was refreshing to see. I have a 6 week old who is a horrible sleeper as well and ultimately we had to do what was best for everyone and our sanity and let him sleep with me in bed. He just cries and cries and it takes a TON of rocking to get him asleep. It’s frustrating but I know it’s temporary. We’re all in this together! Well besides the lucky moms with the angel babies lol

My daughter is almost 3 months and I’ve done my own twist on swaddling her now because she likes to have her arms free and up when she sleeps. When we go to bed.. I swaddle her lightly from her stomach down leaving her arms exposed so she can do whatever with them. She seems to enjoy that more since she used to break completely out of her swaddle every night anyhow.

  • @Almost1216
    @Almost1216 4 роки тому +1

Many others have mentioned this in your comments but I’d like to also say that maybe he’d prefer not being swaddled. I have a 5yr old and a 6 week old and I never tried swaddling but I know my 6 week old would never sleep with it. She moves so much while she sleeps. She sleeps for at least 1-2 hours at a time which is not super great but every now and then She will sleep for 3.5 hours. I totally feel ya having to rock him to sleep. My first baby girl would only go to sleep if she was rocked and it was soooo hard. Especially once she started to get bigger because I couldn’t walk around with her for long before my back would be killing me. Luckily so far my newest baby girl sleeps better than my first. All babies are so different 🙂 I love your videos btw! 💕 your an awesome mommy from what I see!

Have you tried letting him sleep on his stomach? I've been watching you videos on and off for years, but pretty regularly since Jackson was born because I'm pregnant now with my second! I haven't read the comments so I don't know if has been suggested before. Sorry if I am part of the broken record, or if I'm part of the neverending stream of unsolicited advice. Wishing you the best of luck.

I agree! I think back sleeping is for the birds! I can’t sleep on my back, so I never expected my kids to. They were born in the 80’s, before all this back sleeping started. I bet he would have slept better on his stomach.

I saw he moves like he cant get comfy in the swaddle. Around 3 months they start to move alot and roll. I would try a nap or two with out the swaddle in the bassinet. He may sleep longer. Swaddles are mostly for newborn till around 2months. So he may be not getting comfy!

My little one gets over tired like he does. Fights sleep even though they're tired. Now, at first sign of sleepyness (yawning, eye rubbing, sneezing, back arching) , i Swaddle, rest on side and rock crib. Cry for 5 mins and then fall to sleep. Worked a treat for past 2 weeks.
