I'm in my 1L year right now and was feeling so discouraged tonight until I started binge watching law school UA-camrs and found your video. It's so comforting to know that everything I'm feeling is normal and I can overcome it. Thank you!!
I’m glad you ran across my video! Definitely don’t feel discouraged! Your feelings are normal even if you don’t see anyone else freakin out. Trust me, everyone is taking it until they make it 😉
As law students, we're all preparing to take on and solve the most complex issues of personal and business livelihoods of our future clients. If it was all "easy" in law school, we wouldn't be ready to face those harsh realities and challenges that clients bring to us in law practice. We all possess limitless potential to become greater version of ourselves in law school and beyond.
I just got through my first mid-terms. That was tough, but I feel more confident. I also got a nice boost from our Legal Methods Professor, he said he had no worries about me at all. Thank Goodness! I'm that 61-year-old 1L, and surprisingly, being a (much) older student doesn't seem to make as much of a difference as I thought it would. Thank you for the encouraging videos. They're great.
Hi friend! Glad I could hear from you again. I knew you would have no problem. Trust me. It doesn’t matter what age you are. We are all struggling! I’m glad I could help and I hope to continue to hear your updates!
thank you this is really good advice. i’m a college freshman at stanford and even though i’m not a law student, i relate on an undergrad level. comparison is a thief of joy. i admit that i compare myself so much to my peers but i doesn’t get me anywhere! thank you. i’m subscribing ❤️
Haha, "snooty high class jargon"! A lot of that stuff is not even applicable in the real life of practicing attorneys anyway. Really nice to hear your thoughts here!
Yes law school is very difficult and a major adjustment. Common sense & the law don't mix. Also you should start to notice that you're thinking like a lawyer & seeing liability everywhere. LoL! Keep up the good work. I got 2.5 years left. I'm doing law school PT as a working adult.
@@itskayyvonne8582 thank you for the reply. I’m going to law school in Canada. Do you have any suggestions for what I should use to study for the LSAT? There are too many materials out there. I heard the Princeton review was ok. What would you suggest?
Interesting video to watch. Nice to see someone go out of their way and share their experiences with others so that they can make an important life choice of whether law school is for them or not. :)
Undergrad major was finance. Biz school = easy. Went to top 20 law school. Law School = hard because it is SO much reading that you are always overwhelmed with busy work. Now after many years I am a Computer Science student and I can tell you straight up that any STEM degree is exponentially harder than law school. Notice how I got some math in there. 'Nuff said. Thing is, law school is in English, and uses the same logic you have been using to get your parents to do what you want since you were about four years old. It's natural in that you read cases and learn how they connect together and how to spot issues that connect together. STEM, in my case computer science, is all math, which is not the language you have bene using your whole life, and the logic? Wow.
The difficulty is adjustable. Law can be very very difficult but I don't think any school ever turned the volume up that high maybe because as any student knows you have to stop at some point and that point would usually do.
I started as a Criminal Justice major with a police concentration, then switched over my third year to human services. I have been working in the field for a little bit now but I just feel like I have more to give, more to achieve within myself. This video gave me some perspective and motivated me to continue to study for my LSATS . I’ve been out of school for about a year and some change now, when it comes to letters of reccomendation I don’t really know who to turn to and I worry about that in terms of that hindering my potential acceptance into some nice law schools. Any pointers on how to tackle that,
Nice... video very informative and useful I'm a 50 year old 1L and these type of commentary platform help people face their academic and upward mobility fear's especially minorities
I learn something every time I watch one of your videos, I love it! Do you think you could make a video about involvement in Law School? Like what organizations you would recommend, how much time can you realistically commit to an org, etc?
Personally, I would not spend much time on student orgs in law school. It's not impressive on resumes like being on a law review, moot court, or actual work experience. Students should focus on grades instead.
I am extremely depressed after the first semester. I thought about doing something so violent over the weeks and the worst thing is I can't take any help from anyone
i might not be able to help because youve probably heard this bullshit said everywhere, but its worth it dude. dont end your life, becayse jf you feel like youre at the bottom rn it only gets better, i promise. take care of yourself and dont do anything rash
You SHOULD go to law school when you understand the saturation of the legal profession and the difficulty and rigor of law school and profession. When nothing else but the degree matters (knowledge gained), therein, the law as a career, you are ready to attend law school.
i'm a student at my last year of my IGSCES, i wanted to study a business major but my parents are always so against me taking business and want me to take law because they want their children to be well-known and smart. i'm so behind in all my igsces and trying catch up. i never saw myself as a lawyer. ill watch and see if this video has any impact on me.
idk bc i see these youtubers that are in law school and they are doing nightly readings and seem to have ALOT of free time during the day. is it true that the only exams in law school are finals? if thats the case then do you guys not have quizzes/tests during the semesters and only readings and cold calls, and trying to learn the legal jargon?
The only exams are finals! But some professors have ungraded midterms to help you prepare for finals. Some professors also split up the final in to parts through out the year. Really depends on the professor.
Great video! One way to prepare for the rigors of Law school, consider teaching for a couple of years! Legit it will do what this video has said. Trust me.
@@itskayyvonne8582 Thats awesome. Northwestern is on my list but the University of Washington is my number 1 choice because of location. If im not trying to go big law, does a t14 school matters? Im trying to go solo as a real estate attorney.

You do not have to go to law school or college to be a p.I. But most p.I.’s pursue a bachelors degree in criminal justice or a related field to get certain knowledge.

I rather take test and quizzes throughout the year but that’s why law school is hard. They intentionally try to make it different from the normal style of learning. It helps with the “weeding out” process

You can either get on academic probation or fail out

If it’s on a curve does that mean a certain amount of students must fail or get a D?
Unfortunately, that’s correct. There is a small percentage who will get the lowest grade possible.
Do they allow you to use your outline on your final exam or mid-term? You can use it to get the answer that you need to write out.
It depends on the professor. Most professors let you use an outline but some professors don’t let you use anything but your memory
My only issue so far is I don’t know how to study :(
Don’t worry. You’ll get there!
