The first smaller competitor to Mattel's Barbie doll was Topper Toys 'Dawn', a 6.5" fashion doll with rooted eyelashes and bendable knees! She was produced from 1970 - 1973 and had multiple fashions and play sets. The Dawn line had several male dolls - Gary, Ron, Van and Kevin. She was less expensive and outsold Barbie temporarily but the competition was fierce! Mattel produced 'Rock Flowers', 'Dazzle' and 'Fashion Teeners' as the dolls got smaller and tinier!
The first doll you showed was by Simplicity, which is a company that primarily made clothing/fashion patterns. This is probably why the doll came with extra fashions. The doll itself wasn't the priority. The whole thing was probably made to encourage young girls to buy patterns so they could make clothes to match their doll.
LOVE these mini dolls! As a very little kid I used to 🫣😬😏 SHOPLIFT these dolls!! I only did it a couple of times, and tbh I was so young don’t think I fully understood what I was doing… But I do remember feeling I needed to do it because I was WAY too ashamed of being a boy who wanted dolls. I remember that on both these mini dolls and the cheap knock-off “Barbies” (the ones with the hollow plastic legs that would split along the seam line) the hair would be held down by a loop of flat clear plastic, like non adhesive cello tape, and when you took it off the polypropylene hair would gradually lift till it stuck almost straight up, exposing all the baldness underneath. Also interesting they spell Glamour Gal the UK/Australian (and maybe Canadian?) way. Being an Australian who’s lived in 🇺🇸, it felt very strange simplifying my spelling from colour, glamour, rumour, armour etc to color, glamor, rumor, armor and so on. Also substituting Z for S in words like realise to become realize… Now having lived for years there, and being back in Australia, I sometimes see the ‘our and ‘s as kinda romantic and old fashioned looking… I’ll never get over how grownups spell aeroplane in the US as airplane. When I was younger I really thought that Airplane was just a deliberately funny spelling for that classic comedy disaster movie!!! Which, even more confusingly, was titled Flying High for the Aussie and New Zealand markets 🙃
I wondered if you would have found the Mattel mini version. The line was called " fashion Teeners" and there were four in the line. Each doll came with mix and match fashions on the blister card that were color coordinated to the doll's swimsuit that was molded on the body. They had different hair colors and resembled "Malibu Barbie" and cost $1.98 printed on the blister pack. The doll's names rhymed Moreen, Doreen, Coreen, and Loreen. The tag line was "I have lots n lots of pretty clothes! Dress me up ! Make me pose! They came out in 1970's. Easy to google them.
I like the mini dolls. I have some repro Dawn dolls from the early 90's. The just don't make stuff like they used to. Even on such a small scale, the quality was always there.
Jana’s dress is so awesome. The art for Todd and the other boys is soooo cute. The stands kind of remind me of the ones for my smaller Star Trek figures like Troi and Leeta. Another in between size that I just got is the small Britney Spears dolls.
They are so teeny tiny! The smallest dolls I collect are the 6" fashion dolls - Dawn (3 or 4 boy dolls), Rock Flowers (1 boy doll), Starr Modeling Agency (0 boy dolls), Family Corners. Family Corners (~ 4 guy dolls and 4 gal dolls)
Great video! 💕💖 I was almost going to suggest Topper Dawn Dolls as part of this list...but alas, they are 6.5 inches 🤣Lots of dolls here I've never heard of! 💙💫🍓

I feel like I've seen Dawn dolls but i'll definitely look into it! Thanks! 🥰
Simplicity manufactures patterns for dress making.
They are perfect for travel and cheaper to make playsets for smaller dolls than for regular Fashion dolls
Kool stuff ❤ i love old stuff ❤

Blue Box is a sort of budget priced toy company who made tons of cheaper toys. They were around in the UK too!

UK and Australian spellings of words has always fascinated me. 🤔

I did actually come across those in my search! 😛

I was really surprised at the fabric clothes!
Hasbro Toys made the Gi-Joe figures both vintage 12 in & 4 in figures.
Kenner was also the original makers of Blythe Dolls.

Rock Flowers are on my list!
I have a couple of the smaller dolls, but none of them are vintage; mostly Disney.☺️

They are so small.
I saw some collectors using Copic pens and a bit of alcohol in re-dying doll heads…you might want to research on this for more infos…
👍🏻
🤗😍🖤♥️🧜🏻♀️🤸🏻♀️🧚🏻🔥🎈😍
I am a fan of your videos and livestreams. I just do not see the point of the small dolls. I do like RH Littles. Very cute.
