You're doing a thorough job on rust discovery. That much rust wasn't apparent at the beginning. I have a similar project that will take all the money it's worth to restore it.
Thanks for watching, I had a few of these cars back in the day I love them. I had a 81 Z28 in high school and that is how I’m going to make this one. When you do own it, it’s a great feeling.
@@RustyRatchetGarage I used to have a 1990s Accordd Maestro because of Corona, I had to sell it to make ends meet, now I only have a Daihatsu G10. Until now, it hasn't been able to run because I ran out of funds, I was tricked by a car repair shop, now I'm repairing it myself little by little, but I still have to give up because I ran out of funds.
My first car was a 76 Camaro, sold it when my oldest was born and have wanted another ever since and I just a 81, It not the same model year, color or engine, mine was a 76 RS, it was yellow with Biege interior and had a 350, this one is a base 81, it's Blue with Silver interior and it's a got a 4.1L 250 strait six in it but after looking for 20 plus years for a 2nd gen that I could actually afford I don't care about any of that, It does need a paint job so I might change the color and they seats need some work where the seams have come apart so I MIGHT just dye them and the dash brown also but the engine was trans and rear end was just rebuilt so I'm not touching them. Plus I got it in a package deal with a 2001 2 Grand-Am for my 12 year old grandson when he turns 16.
My 1st car was a 76 also, it bought fire at votech. We sprayed under coating underneath and it got on the cat. Well that was the end of that. I loved my 81 Z28. These cars are addictive. Hopefully you get to drive and enjoy your car with your grandson. Thanks for watching
@@RustyRatchetGarage Yep, not many of us who's first car was a 76 Camaro, I was High-School from 87-90 so there were ALOT of 70's cars in my high school parking lot, by the mid 80's they had become the "hand me down" car to the first new driver, my Gf had a 75 Chevelle that her aunt bought new, My best friend had 79 Nova that his step-dad got as a partial payment for some work he did on a guys car, I bought my car for $500 from my next door neighbor who got married and was moving to Texas with her new husband and no longer needed the car, there were alot of others with similar stories.
Those cars are known for rust ...that one is not that bad ...framed are known to rot ...save yourself money on ls swap .....crate motor 330 hp with mods
Yeah the rust sucks, I decided to replace the whole part instead of patching. I was going to do a LS swap but I have the motor and trans out of the 87 corvette. It has 82000 miles on it.

You could have took like 6 are 8 bolts out and set the hole front clip off
Taking the front end off in one piece still means taking off about 20 bolts.
Update? Got the same project in my garage!
I have one project in front of this one. I still have to get doors and fenders for it
I just put a new video out today, how is your project coming along.
