    ***** About Venison for Dinner *****
    Thank you for joining us on this crazy journey! Our family- Kate and Marius plus our five kids, have always enjoyed living a homemade life whenever possible. Moving 1000 miles north in 2017 to Northern BC, Canada upped our game even more. We live on a 34 acre homestead and get a kick out of things like raising our own meat, dairy and vegetables. Theres plenty of failures, you’ll be sure to see those here too. We’re a homeschooling family who believes life is the best teacher but we do hit the books in winter. I’m so glad you’re here, I hope you stick around!
    We put out a new video every Wednesday morning! We hope you will become part of our homestead family by subscribing to our channel and watching as we give up the rat race and live simpler, more fulfilling life in the country.

    💚 This was SO enjoyable to watch! I learned a lot and to see the two of you together for a more lengthy time-period, and a topic about which Mareus (sp?) is passionate is really special. I may have to try making some mead! 💚

      Yes, certain rose petals will do that. My mom has a rose called Fragrant Cloud that tastes soapy in kombucha. Thanks for watching!

    One of the things I have read about the "fermented honey" is that making Mead is the PERFECT way to use up any fermented honey you get from the hive. Something about the further fermentation in making Mead will make the fermented honey digestible for us humans.

    I am completely new to making any kind of drinks other than lemonade!
    I am wondering how does Kombucha and Mead differ? I have never made either but understand that they both take time to ferment.
    Thank you so much!

    • @VenisonforDinner
      @VenisonforDinner  Рік тому +1

      Kombucha is non-alcoholic and a strictly fermented drink with many health benefits. It also takes a shorter time to ferment - approximately 2 weeks. Mead is an alcoholic drink that takes quite a bit longer to ferment (2-6 months) and as far as health benefits...it's better for you than wine, no preservatives. And it tastes good so that puts a smile on your face!

    Can you put instructions for dandelion please. I presume it require some sort of tannins and do you steep your flowers?

    • @VenisonforDinner
      @VenisonforDinner  Рік тому +1

      We don't use any tannins in making the mead. Marius uses 2-3 pints of dandelion pedals (no green stuff) and stirs it in same as the other types of mead. Everything else is the same as the other types.

  • @kimkerley4218
    @kimkerley4218 Рік тому +1

    Why make mead instead of wine? Is it just taste? If you don’t have your own bees wouldn’t mead cost a lot more to make compared to wine? Thx y’all 😊

    • @VenisonforDinner
      @VenisonforDinner  Рік тому +1

      It might be, with sugar being cheaper than honey, but then requires more additives to make It work out from our understanding. When you break it down to a per bottle price, it’s only a few dollars per 26 ounce bottle with honey if you are using your own fruit (not purchased). Still pretty cheap.

    How many of your batches have turned into vinegar using this method ?? Want excellant reliable results learn how to properly make mead. Using airlocks and good brewers yeast.

    • @VenisonforDinner
      @VenisonforDinner  Рік тому +2

      Only once did we and it was a mistake in the inital brewing process before airlock. Have made many many many batches of good mead since. Honey and fruit provides amazing yeasts! Youre also welcome to take this recipe and add brewers yeast.

    • @VenisonforDinner
      @VenisonforDinner  Рік тому +2

      And the mistake was because the recipe we were following said you had upto 2 weeks to put it into an airlock and this was NOT true. We do not advise or teach this
