How do you take the oil, say olive oil, to increase absorption? Teaspoon at time of taking D3? Any other good uses for olive oil? Do tanning beds increase D3 levels? Thanks.

Some people take a spoon full of oil with their D3 gel-cap, some take Cod Liver oil which has D3 in it. Or, you could just take your D3 after a meal that contained fat...

Certain tanning beds do have good Vit D rays. You just have to ask the tanning place you go which bed they have and always request that bed. Our local place has like 10 beds and only one helps with Vit D

I found out about my severe vitamin D deficiency in March and in two months my levels went upto 33 ng from 7. I am aiming for 55ng.I started with 4K IU of d3 then went on to 10k IU along with magnesium, fish oil. It was life changing! I also had to correct my severe B12 and iron deficiency with shots and infusions respectively.I took a zinc + b complex capsule too. I also made some dietary changes by limiting dairy, gluten and sugar. I am a different person now. I used to have extreme hair fall, fatigue, drowsiness, dizziness, poor balance, bone pain, weak teeth, numbness in my toes, lack of concentration , poor memory, depression, anxiety and brain fog. My career, social life, relationships everything was suffering for so many years. I feel like over 75% of my problems are gone. It didn’t take too long, only a few months for this entire transformation. Please do not ignore nutritional deficiencies . I hope this helps people 🙏🏼

I’m a natural redhead and I live in South Texas. Can’t venture into the sun too long without burning. I have to take a Vitamin D supplement everyday. I’m blessed enough to find a doctor that knew to check my Vitamin D level...it was extremely low. Before finding my doctor, I had repeatedly been sick with colds/sinus infections...5 within 4 months. I was also exhausted all the time...didn’t matter how much I slept. My mood was low. Anyways, feeling 110% better now

Thank you, thank you for this video, Dr. Berry. This gives me hope that I could get better from this "mystery" condition of which I have been suffering for a year now. NONE of the doctors I have seen mentioned a vit D deficiency, despite all the blood tests and a 2 day hospitalization. It had been mind boggling that not one of my doctors recognized where my problem is coming from. It wasn't until I stumbled on a blood result that indicated that my vit d was at below 30 that I decided to help myself to vit D3 supplementation that my energy level allowed me to walk around on my own for an hour in the mall without feeling that I might die if I did not stop to sit down. This condition is so terrible and yet not one of my ivy league educated doctors could diagnose it. They think I had been making up my symptoms, or I am just depressed or I need exercise! Unbelievable! These so called health professionals have been disappointing and discouraging. On the other hand, your video had been helpful. Thank you.

Thanks doc!! Glad you care to share this important info!! Magnesium is super important along with it too though. It aids in the metabolism/activation of the vit. D, so it actually can be used by the body. So, if taking the vitD make sure how your magnesium level is. And unfortunately only a intracelluler test gives the real/correct level.. Not the regular way that the doc's do. One last thing also , vit. K2 as MK7 .

First of all, I want to say that I really like your videos. They have really helped me out. I am taking a daily dose of vitamin D3 now and I feel better than I have ever felt before. I have so much more energy.
Yesterday I have heard some very bad news from one of my best friends. She came back from the hospital, because she had taken some allergy tests. The doctors there have told her that she has a very rare allergy to vitamin D. They have tested her blood before and her vitamin D levels were at 14. They have also done skin tests. They told her she is the 4th person worldwide to have this rare reaction to vitamin D. She can't eat fish without throwing up. She couldn't take vitamin D capsules without throwing up.
I was with her and her family yesterday and everyone was very sad. Her mother was afraid that she might die, because one of the doctors told her that out of the 3 other people, one person died during treatment.
It was so good that I have seen many of your videos and now have a little knowledge about vitamin D. Ofcourse I will be very careful about what I say and leave things to the doctors and expert. I was able to give them some peace and rest by providing them information about vitamin D and how it works.
I can't imagine that only 4 people in the world have this ( although those are just the confirmed cases). Apparantly she has had this her entire life. The symptoms of vitamin D deficiency have been a life long experience for her. Also her skin tone has more pigment, because of her Turkish heritage.
I was wondering what your expertise says about this.

    • @momothemuppet
      @momothemuppet 5 років тому

martijn stuart - I wonder if there is a deficiency of something else that is preventing the D absorption? Vitamin D has to have cofactors like magnesium & other vitamins, minerals & trace elements in order to be absorbed properly. The sun makes D sulphate in the skin which in turn helps to make cholesterol. Some people have issues with sulphur. Vitamin D is required for B vitamin absorption & production in the gut. Because most of the research goes into drugs rather than nutrients, sadly this field is still somewhat of a mystery. There are some doctors who understand the D hormone & it’s supporting elements like Dr. Coimbra & Ken Berry, but they are few & far between.

I have been an advocate for vitamin D3 supplementation since I was diagnosed with an extremely low vitamin D level about 10 years ago. It took 6 months of taking 10,000-12,000 IUs a day for me to reach just the middle lab range. F4r I was taking was a high-quality gel-capsule containing fractionated extra virgin coconut oil. A couple of years into trying to raise my level further, I went to order the same capsules but they were out of stock. So I ordered the same ones but in the liquid drops version. Long story short (I know, too late), it turns out that my body very much prefers a liquid drops. My level rose to near the top of the range before the bottle was gone. Fast forward a few years after maintaining that nice high-level... I figured I was good with solid high-level so switch back to the capsules since they are a little cheaper. Happened to have a regular lab check two and a half months into the capsules and my level had dropped quite a bit. So I went right back to the level went right back up.
Pretty interesting. Just goes to show we have to do what works for our individual bodies.
Now, I had never heard about the losing the belly fat part of using vitamin D. I'm here to tell you if that were the case I should be skinny by now, LOL. I'm obese and it's all in the belly. So, no, that didn't work on me, so sorry to say. Keto and intermittent fasting is the answer for belly fat loss, it's really working.

Had my genome tested and found MTHFR and VitD related mutations recently, so began supplementing with VitD3/K2, methylfolate, magnesium and NAC. Unbelievable difference! I'm off most of my mast cell medications (which were barely keeping symptoms at bay), my pain levels are way down, I can breathe and think clearly and I feel better than I have in so long I can't even remember. I'm definitely a success story. Please get your genetics tested! It can answer so many questions and there are solutions.

After doing 23andMe, my daughter (17) and I found out we have more than one gene 🧬 that affects how our bodies assimilate vitamin D. Her last blood draw it was low. Now we know why. I was already giving her 2000 IUs. Since the last draw I upped it to 5000. It has made a huge difference in her. She was anxious, stressed, lacked concentration and motivation. We kind of wish we had known this earlier. At 5, her pediatrician noticed her growth rate had slowed dramatically. He ran a blood panel. The only thing he noticed that was wrong was gluten sensitivity. Well...we went down that path and also saw an endocrinologist for growth issues. I think if the standard for D3 serum levels were higher and he knew to check the right one things would have been A LOT different for her. At least we know now.

We in the lab were amazed how deficient many people are. The majority, about 60 % , we did about 150 assays per day, were below 20 ug% This is very low, indeed. It is difficult to absorb by the body. Re the sound: volume is fine, however you have a "smooth" voice (me, too) that older listeners may have trouble absorbing. Hearing loss is not just about volume, it's also about lack of clarity in picking up consonants. Careful enunciation (but not to the point of stiffness) helps. So does taking those hearing aids out of the drawer and actually wearing them.

Another great video Dr Berry! Yes I could hear you fine. Due to having to making it short and straight to the point I understand why you didn't get into the scientific terminology and how D works, so I want to just add some info if I may. VitaD3 is actually made from animals (cholecalciferol) which is actually easier and preferred by our liver to be synthesized into 25(OH)D3 then re-synthesized again into 1,25(OH)2D3 by our the kidneys, the actual hormone that our bodies need. VitaD2 (ergocalciferol) is made from plants and cannot be fully converted into 25(OH)D3 by the liver. D2 is also cheaper to produce so I don't know why anyone would need a prescription to get a more inferior VitaD supplement. So I would 100% agree with you that #1 sun exposure to UVB rays for us to make our own D3 is best and free. Or to simply eat rich D3 foods, such as oily fish, liver, egg yolk, butter, etc #2 would be to go with D3 (oil capsules preferrably from wild cod or cod liver). #3 would be to go with regular affordable D3 tablets as a last resort taken with olive oil or other healthy fats. Personally I would not even recommend D2 because I think it's a waste of money and for the reason I stated above

I was very sick from Vitamin D deficiency for years and no one tested me for it. My career, finances and life in general were pretty much ruined after struggling for 7 years with mysterious fatigue, pain, more pain, and mental fog. Finally my 27 year old son called me and told me he had Vitamin D deficiency and asked me to get tested. That was it. My level was 9. So I started on D3 5K IU. After a few months I began to feel a little better. I was not taking it every day because I was worried about over dose. But after getting checked it was still deficient. So then I started taking 10K IU every single day and I bought a UVB light. (The light seemed to help me, but I have burned myself several times pretty bad--not a great idea unless you are desperate for sun.) Recently I added Calcium, Magnesium and Zinc and K2. After a year and two months--I finally feel good again. My hips still hurt but other than that I feel my life starting to come back. My last test I was up to 30, but I am aiming for 50.

Pamela if you are still having pain or any fatigue, you also might want to see a specialized chiropractor and make sure that your atlas bone is not out of alignment. I had all the same symptoms as you but was not actually Vitamin D deficient. The atlas bone is the top vertebrae and what your head sits on. The brain stem passes through this and if yours is off balance like mine was, it will put pressure on the brain stem and can give you nearly any symptom under the sun, mainly fatigue, brain fog, and pain. Many people who have been diagnosed with Fibromyalgia actually have this bone out of alignment, not Fibromyalgia. When you get it corrected, it'll change your life and is so simple you'll wish you knew about it earlier in life.
Just search for an orthospinologist or an upper cervical chiropractor in your area and ask them to check if your atlas is misaligned...this is all they do and they're the only ones with the proper x-ray equipment to determine if it needs adjusting. A doctor can't and won't ever address this, so don't count on them to solve your problem if they have not already :(

Pamela Thompson it may be better to supplement with B vitamins (including B5 - Calcium Pantothenate) rather than Calcium tablets. Most who have low D also have low B vitamin absorption. B vitamins are needed for many neurological functions, digestion & energy production, etc. According to Dr. Stasha Gominak D encourages the proliferation of gut microbes that produce some of the B vitamins. The better the D status, the better able the body is able to absorb calcium from our food - especially leafy greens & broccoli, etc.

I see that this is a old clip, but if you are still reviewing these comments then I offer the following.
I have been an advocate of VD for many years. I was first introduced to VD in 2012 when our son got lymphoma. I located an article that the Mayo Clinic accidently found lymphoma patients with VD blood levels of about 90 nmol/L had double the survival rate, so we started him on that, lucky we had an accommodating doctor, other doctors said that it was a waste of time. He is still in remission and is still taking it.
I then did a ton of reading on VD. You commented that you have not heard of a case of people being put into hospital. I read of 2, both were extreme and both people survived - from memory one patient was about 1,500 nmol/ and the other was about 3,000. I might be able to find them but you have to let me know. I undrstand in both cases the issue arrived due to incorrect labeling of the actual quantities. Probably something like they were to take a couple of 5,000 iu /day but the capsule might have had 50,000??
Regarding deaths - there was one of a small boy, that was contributed to VD. But an off setting comment was added that this child was so sick that it was not conclusive that it was from VD. I think there was another of a girl, but the detail escapes me at the moment.
As interest about myself I take 10,000iu a day and high dose of VK2 complex. Earlier this year I had a heart / calcium scan done and I had a Zero score.
So regarding other clips for yourself you could do one on the VD/VK2 connection, others are now doing this but it is still important. An area that is being overlooked is in VK2'S effectiveness in fighting cancers and in particular blood cancers where VK2 assists in cell death (apoptosis)
You mention that overdose of VD is rare (but doctors are still paranoid if you go a little bit over the upper recomended limit) similarly VK2 is also advised to be take in small doses. The levels for effective apoptosis are very difficult for the patient to self-medicate. So how do we get doctors to start giving this to fight cancer and with a compound that has almost No known side effects. If you were to discuss VD/VK2 connection a book that might give you an overview is "The Calcium Paradox"

My blood pressure got better. Bowls got better. And bone aches and pains got alot better too. I totally believe it had alot to do with the Vitamin D3!!

I'm concerned about the side effects so i had to see my thyroid Dr a few days after and I mentioned it. She asked me about my vitamin D. Great video. I've checked my vit D by accident, it was 17, now it's 27, still low.For our standards the normal levels are 30-100. I was mostly at home the past 6months, because of a spine trauma. What to say, hell experience. Headache, nausea, vomiting, absolutely crazy anxiety, depression and so on. Now I'm taking only 400 i.u and will have to take more for sure. And starting to feel better. I also have borderline results for scleroderma and exposing myself to sun sometimes is leading to itchiness and rash for days.I know vit D regulates the immune system, so it could be because of that.

If you have genuinely missed the sun for that long, get a blood test. I live in the pacific northwest and take 10,000 IU a day during the winter. 5,000 a day during the summer and I try to get a lot of sun.

Sunshine vitamin or steroid hormone was the most powerful medicine on earth given by our CREATOR. Sun Exposure
The best way to get vitamin D3 is through sun exposure. Go outside and get some sun, especially in the mid-day when it’s the strongest.
However, many of us use sun block, which is good for our skin but not so helpful when it comes to the production of vitamin D3. By blocking out the UVA and UVB rays, sun block can interfere the skin’s ability to synthesize vitamin D3. GOD BLESS.

One thing that I found out was that VIt D3 - without proper Magnesium levels and K2 levels can cause calcium to be stored in soft tissues - it is the K2 that helps it go where it's suppose to go - into bone and magnesium is required to activate D3. Without all 3 in balance taking large amounts of D3 can cause calcium plaques to form in soft tissue like arteries and heart

As far as the study on body fat in the midsection with vitamin D, it is more likely that subjects who were given vitamin D had higher energy levels, so they would be more likely to exercise, as well as maybe have an increased metabolic rate.

I take 35,000 IU daily in an effort to raise my blood level to over 150 ng/ml in an effort to cure chronic pain and lower back pain. It seems to be working, and I feel a lot better.
There are a few people who suffer from the side effects of taking vitamin D3, but it's never been proven that the vitamin D was the cause.
Vitamin D can cause magnesium deficiency and hypercalcemia.
That's the concern. I believe vitamin D3 in itself is completely non toxic.

Do you think some people feel better than others with a vitamin D level over 50 ng/ml?
I have a friend who said he felt terrible at a level of 28 and didn't feel optimal until he hit 70.
Mine is a lot lower at 16. He said he felt depressed, irritable, and fatigued at 28. On my own lab report, they say a level of 30 is the low end of normal. I guess even getting just a bit lower than 30 can cause different people more problems than it would seem? (At least to me, this is curious if some labs are claiming that 30 is the low normal.)
