Been in china for a few years, drugs is no joke. My friend has just been released from jail after 1 year for the equivalent of 5 joints. Not allowed any family or friends visiting, It wasn't easy for him, others involved are still doing time, one facing 7-10 because of two bags, one for him one for his friend (distribution). If you come here....drop that lifestyle, and start drinking tea.
I have been to the border when visiting Yunnan. The patrol was very serious and experienced. They could spot the suspicions by only looking at you and talking to you in 2 mins. China is one of the few countries that are extremely tough on drugs and punish with death penalty. This is because China once suffered from the massive drug use in history and learned hard from lessons
My cousin-in-law once bought an ID from someone. after he got a hotel room with that ID. Two police officers showed up asking him to do a piss test. He was confused and asked why. It turned out to be that the original owner of the ID had a drug conviction in the past. So long story short, if you are ever caught doing drugs in China, your ID will be flagged forever Everytime you check in at a hotel, or an internet cafe(which is very common seen in China) police might show up asking you to do a piss test.
To all those people who complain about death penalty for drug dealing, you guys need to understand something. The beginning of the execution was because there were way, way too many abusers back then. Ever since the opium war when Britain forcefully sold drugs to China, China had trouble keeping down the uses. Once the war was over, we needed to recover, and it is really difficult to get them to quit and stop the crimes they were committing. Same applies for Thailand as well. If it wasn't for the death penalty, drugs would be a huge epidemic in China. Death penalty is unfair and cruel, but the Chinese government is actually making changes to a lot of the laws and penalties. They stated that they were going to slowly modify the laws and eventually stop the death penalties.
+MsAntonimie I can't believe it, you are the first to ever say that to me. 😭 I'm literally sobbing in happiness right now. You are right, it's a habit now to hear all the criticisms about China and its just engraved into how I express my opinions,l. To be completely honest, I don't mind how the Chinese society is today, I really love China, and my family are happy in China. I don't understand why the Westerners choose to attack China like this.
+Fu Baozi Westerners criticize first and ask questions later. It's how they exercise their superiority complex. Nothing China does will ever satisfy Western critics. Case and point: - When China was communist, it was attacked for being too strict. Now that it's capitalist, it's attacked for being greedy. - When China's population exploded, it was attacked for not keeping its numbers under control. After the One-Child (now Two-Children) Policy, it was attacked for restricting individual choice. - When China was poor and backwards, it was looked down upon. Now that it's developed/developing, it's accused of stealing ideas. - When Chinese emigrated to different parts of the world, they were accused of taking jobs. Now that more of them are staying in China to work, they're still accused of taking jobs. - When China was weak, it was picked on for being weak. Now that it's strong, it's viewed as an aggressor and a threat to global stability. This is why China has basically given the West the middle finger whenever it faces criticism; the game has gotten old, and Chinese leaders have basically declared that they'd do things their way whether the West likes it or not.
You can't win or lose on the death penalty argument. It's like a comment religion war, people can argue forever and no side will agree or disagree but see some good and some bad points. Even in the west that have the death penalty some love it and some say its wrong. They want people to understand all life is special but at the same time they don't want to pay taxes for criminals that are going to spend 50 years behind bars just sitting there doing nothing but eating food and taking up space and others will argue some people like serial killers can never be released back into society so just kill them off to save money and space then another person will tell you to put them on hard labor so they can work for the people picking up trash and stamping license plates or whatever until they die while prisons now can't even hold all the people that are entering. A death penalty for drugs is a bit harsh but it is another country and if it helps slow down the drug trade well whatever works, people doing it know what's going to happen if they get caught so it's their choice. If I was poor and had no money I would do what I gotta do to survive and no matter where you go you'll never stop drugs that's like the police saying they will stop and catch all gangs, it will never happen without or with a death penalty.
Wow, all the comments up there makes me feel pretty warm on the inside. Finally there are people who take the time to understand both sides of the story :) Death penalty, it really depends on the ideology. But to be honest, I think it's reasonable. If a person decides to harm others, or even take multiple lives, then they should get the punishment they deserve. (Plus caring for all the prisoners would be a bit expensive)
First of all, we export because there's a demand for it. Secondly, I wonder who was the one that started this hardship...? surely not China, that's for sure. Lastly, China is already leading the world, get your facts right. Nice day to you too, sir.
The thing to remember is that China knows all about what can happen if a drug takes hold of a country. The opium war and the subsequent opium addiction that scarred Chinese society for a century, (until the 1949 communist civil war victory), weakened the Chinese government and erroded the sovereign integrity of the nation and cost millions of people the chance to lead a healthy and prosperous life. So if anyone wonders why the Chinese authorities take such a hardline on drug dealers and manufacturers and smugglers, they only have to read about the Opium Wars to understand why.

The film Operation Mekong is an excellent dramatization of the problem China has with drugs at their border. Similar to the one we have here in the US as dramatized in the films Sicario 1 & 2, also excellent films.
Sir, that was even before I was born. For the past 40 years, my family incoming increased 1000 times, literally. From the economic perspective, China changed a lot.

The death penalty is just stupid. First off it only affects the mules, groups like the triads etc get away scot-free. It also creates more violence and harder people rather then your typical mom and pop type dealers. In Canada we have little violence compared to the extremely high amount of drugs here. You can be a dealer here making thousands a day without ever being directly involved with organised crime.

Chinese do everything right. Love that country! Just watched a docu about the homeless / drugproblem in Seattle. It's awful there. Chinese do everything right.
America started the war on drugs and used its diplomatic power to push it onto the whole world - a lot of countries actually didn't want to make drugs illegal at first - the main people who opposed war on drugs at the beginning were DOCTORS because they realised making drugs illegal will cause way more health problems than if they were pure and of known quality/strength. for example all doctors agree that pure pharmaceutical opioids/heroinn can bbs given indefinitely and cause no toxic damage to the body at all. it is dirty bacteria infested street heroin that ppl inject into their body that causes all the harm- when its pure and given at the hospital for example it does no harm at all! making drugs illegal makes the problem WAY worse. the uk prescribed pure pharmaceutical heroin for decades and under this system they managed to keep the number of addicts at a stable level of only 400 heroin addicts in the whole country - and during this time there was no association between heroin use and crime/health issues at all - and zero DEATHS. It was only when the US put pressure on the UK to stop that it was phased out in the 1970s and the number of addicts shot up from a few hundred to literally hundreds of thousands - they handed drugs to the black market and armed cartels. Switserland has recently used this method of prescribing heroin to addicts and has managed to completely eliminate its massive opioids problem - crime has gone down massively as well as the cost to the tax payer of stuff like police, prisons, criminal justice costs , health costs ect simply prescribing pure diamorphine is way way cheaper than this so saves a huge amount of money and the tax money can go on more important stuff like violent crime/terrorism.
strict policy is dumb.. it just doesn't work and is a massive waste of money - it is literally as effective as burning money thats how pointless it is - actually its worse than burning money because it actually makes the problem worse! actually you find that countries with stricter drug policies actually have EVEN worse drug problems.. look at china it has the most heroin addicts in the world. and produces all the fentanyl killing hundreds of thousands in america - its like a reverse opium war now china is getting its revenge by sending fentanyl to america which by the way is Way more dangerous and addictive than opium. end the stupid American war on drugs it causes misery and suffering around the world and must stop.
china is so forward in many ways but its so backwards in other ways for example stuff like this. you have been brought up on American drug propaganda thinking making drugs illegal is the way to eliminate drug use.. that view is just wrong. it simply does not work the whole thing is based on a false premise that it is possible to eliminate drug use. you cant even keep drugs out of your fucking prisons how the fuck are you gunna keep them out of a country. The trouble is while china has lots of clever people working on the border - it has many just as clever people working on how to smuggle secretly.
Good video! But I have to remind you that the faces of anti-drug policemen should be concealed in the video in case of the revenge of drug dealers. It's part of the law of Chinese media.
That last lady is probably a Kokang, an ethnic Chinese group living in northern Burma (NW corner of Shan State) along the Chinese border. There ancestors fled there when the Ming Dynasty fell in the 17th century to the Manchus.
Drugs are bad....real bad! I know but I had to find out on my own. 17 months clean and sober after a lifetime of abuse. I just can't explain it , I just did it!
$1,000,000 for 1.34 kg of methamphetamine in Australia when this documentary was filmed. That's nuts man. When I was an addict it was $10 for 0.1 grams and price always goes down the more you buy. Now I know for documentaries they tend to claim the value of nickle and dime prices but that's still nearly 100x the price. Just an observation I had.
Mandarin speakers, unlike Korean or Japanese speakers, actually distinguish between the r and l sounds very clearly. I know because it is my mother tongue.
Buses are stopped and inspected in the very same way in the USA. (Texas) Its no big deal as long as you arent an illegal or transporting drugs or both.
10:23, those small time drug runners are called "ma zai". usually china is going after those big guys behind those runners. in 22:00, since she was not a chinese citizen, just another "mazai" due to poverty, she usually just be in jail for a few months and then deported. the root of problems for those people is only one thing: extreme poverty!
I feel sorry for the woman and bloke who obviously did it for the money and as is shown it was for a very little amount meaning they were desperate. So sad!
It just goes to show no matter how strict the penalty, even it involves execution, the war on drugs is still ineffective and people will still traffick drugs.
Hm. Things have changed some. In the late eighties, I read about a couple of twenty-year-old Chinese women were caught in a taxi with a kilo of skag. The border police frog marched them and the taxi driver behind a building with the intent of snuffing all three and one young woman insisted the taxi driver had nothing to do with it. As he walked away free, he heard the gunshots as the two women were executed. Didn't seem to stem the tide and now speed is the drug of choice. Let Australia have it
Breaks my heart to know they pray on the poor who need this quick money to feed their families, get medicine for a loved one etc we shouldn't punish them as harshly but invest in social programs to help get them out of been so poor they need to do such desperate things. This goes for the whole world our war on drugs is all wrong what we need is social programs to help the weakest most vulnerable people to make sure then dont smule or use the drugs to start off with. Much respect to this police for putting their lives in danger everyday to help stop such harmful substances from getting in

What went into australia that was stopped looked like it was only for one town not a whole country for a year. So its probably 100 times bigger then what they catch.
I thought that the Chinese police is a bit more scary and not allowing this kind of behaviour towards them. I guess the westernization of their police took some toll..
Good for the Chinese police and their best efforts to suppress the drugtrade and their joint efforts with the Australian police to disrupt their joint drug issues...kudos to them all!!
The war on drugs is a pointless war with poor results. No matter how many dealers they lock up, it will never reduce the high demand for narcotics which is highly profitable bringing in fast cash. There will always be someone willing to supply the demand especially with the potential for big profits. You lock up 10 traffickers, 100 are eager to replace them for that huge reward of money.
Buster Jones You are correct. However, that doesn't mean law enforcement shouldn't be trying its hardest to crack down. Drugs can cripple an entire society if nothing is done (see: opium on China in the 19th Century). While we'll never be able to eradicate drug use, at the very least, the illegality and tough enforcement will be enough to prevent plenty of people from traveling down the drug path (selling, buying, and/or using).
+ZhangtheGreat Ya but the only time drugs are that bad is when a government tries to control them or take them away. Some drugs like meth are just bad but opiates are not as bad as some think. They are just addicting, but so is sugar and coffee and cigarettes and alcohol.
Meyaka B You need to learn about what happened to China in the early 19th Century when the government didn't stop the opium trade before you make a statement such as "the only time drugs are that bad is when a government tries to control them or take them away."

lol the guy in black was such a troll, "hey fuck you, I got no drugs, although I got half a ton of cigarrattes and a couple swords, do they count?"
The film Operation Mekong is an excellent dramatization of the problem China has with drugs at their border. Similar to the one we have here in the US as dramatized in the films Sicario 1 & 2, also excellent films.
That mother lady seems so calm
This only makes the Price of Drugs Higher and smuggling more lucrative.
So we shall let it be?
It doesn't exist. There are basically no drugs in China, just as few as crimes.
stupid
Oh shit....I was stunned when he started speaking Chinese! Fluently and beautifully. Great documentary. I learned some things.
Blimey...what happened to the bicycles and Moa suits everybody had when I was there in 1979?
Sir, that was even before I was born. For the past 40 years, my family incoming increased 1000 times, literally. From the economic perspective, China changed a lot.
the free market and yay capatilism
22:52 By anwering that question she just put herself in a much much worst situation
Edit: Also, a (stupid) friend of mine is currently sitting in jail in China for selling cocaine in Beijing clubs. He's facing 55 years and only escaped the death penalty thanks to his foreign passport.
No55years jail sentence in CHINA. It is death after 25 years
Yunnan has a loooong tradition of drug trafic, specially during the XXth century and the opium trade, finally nothing ever change with such a boarder.
12:30
If I was the police, I will make him continue carrying drug, and use him as a bait to catch the bigger fish...
+tengma8 yes mate thats what they do behind the scenes. i use to be one of the police officer in china though i know that:) no bullshit
scooture Archi really? well I am glad to hear it.
tengma8 im not drug officer just a police officer thats it, but my friend is.. he told me lot of things about border in china .. sounds cool!
tengma8 lucky you are not police :-)
tengma8 ....you can never catch the whale up there!
I'm sure the drug dealers appreciate you letting them know if they want to get their dope through send it with a pretty girl in a fluffy dress.
I just feel so sad for that adorable kid with that women at last.
she had the wit to say she is still breast feeding, talk about thinking on your feet unless thats why she had the kid, she should take that wit and leave myamar asap incase they try to send her back unless she plans breast feeding her kid till hes 40
Those guys burning all that meth and wear a cheesy painter's mask must be soooooo high
and wearing rubber gloves for saftey next to a great big nakid flame make me laugh
i want to know if they stop drugs like this from comming in why cant they stop china from mailing drugs in the mail to other countries like canada us ustralia ect?
Because Fentanyl was new and not popular in China so it has been a legal chemical until recently.
@@chima6291 Fentanyl is not a recreational drug. It's just a cheap way to adulterate heroin. There was a great news group in the early and mid nineties where junkies from around the world posted. It always amazed me that AUS had great heroin, but NZ had none; all the NZ folks wanted to know how to convert morphine to heroin. Alt Drugs, Hard, great place; was my first stop when turning-on the PC.
Hint
The Audi was the distraction. The drugs were in the girl with frilly dresses' car.
man, I'd give anything for one of their shoulder patches!
Great reporting
HSBC Bank founded on heroine and coke dealing
i think you guys need to get a grip on what is going out of the country not whats comming in!!!!
14:35; What I've give to have a few serious whiffs of that smoke. What a crazy feeling
Good video! But I have to remind you that the faces of anti-drug policemen should be concealed in the video in case of the revenge of drug dealers. It's part of the law of Chinese media.
Fucking drugs everywhere in this world, no matter where you go.
1:24 he dropped his chalk
the war on drugs is over. drugs wins
hahahah
when he ask the chinese officer in chinese, he said "neige" as well lol
China is one of the country's that interesting, along with USA.
Keeping china safe. Respect
I got ads about drug addiction rehab program midway through this video. Google must've though I'm an addict because of this video's title
That last lady is probably a Kokang, an ethnic Chinese group living in northern Burma (NW corner of Shan State) along the Chinese border. There ancestors fled there when the Ming Dynasty fell in the 17th century to the Manchus.
So kind of like a death squad?
Unlike the American cops, police in China don't play judge, jury and executioner.
Guess you have never heard of a death squad?@@davidemelia6296
Drugs are bad....real bad! I know but I had to find out on my own. 17 months clean and sober after a lifetime of abuse. I just can't explain it , I just did it!
Congratulations I hope you all the best in life stay strong 👍
lol a bus where you can lie how awesome :p
No one will ever stop drugs, people want to feel good no matter what, say what you want the true is here
They take drug serious, and thats what the rest of the world can learn from. My respect to the Chinese people.
Police: Who's child is this?
Smuggler: He's mine.
Police: How old?
Smuggler: One to two years.
Seems legit..
Because then she could claim she was still breastfeeding
@ Reporter.did u just wake up or something?sort your hair out, looks like u walked thru a storm haha
According to Journeymans figures Meth costs $1m per kg or $1000 per gram a bit far fetched!
no kilo of meth is close to 1m each lmao
$1,000,000 for 1.34 kg of methamphetamine in Australia when this documentary was filmed. That's nuts man. When I was an addict it was $10 for 0.1 grams and price always goes down the more you buy. Now I know for documentaries they tend to claim the value of nickle and dime prices but that's still nearly 100x the price. Just an observation I had.
yes the price is way over estimate
Over estimated reporting, this is hyped up propaganda 😂
the drug burning kinda seems pretty stupid though...they are inhaling them like mad.
Mandarin speakers, unlike Korean or Japanese speakers, actually distinguish between the r and l sounds very clearly. I know because it is my mother tongue.
Not one hippie pot head to be seen over there no tie dye or nothing ha
china has the biggest number of heroin addicts in the whole world.
There were plenty of Western hippies in Ruili until about 2009 or so ...
Buses are stopped and inspected in the very same way in the USA. (Texas) Its no big deal as long as you arent an illegal or transporting drugs or both.
开头讲话的上过天天向上
你这么一说我真的想起来了

不该暴露太多面孔, 对缉毒警这太危险了.
So sad!
me too. The woman knew nothing about her behavior, and confessed another crime even Chinese police had no chance to know if she didn't speak out.
How long will the girl going to jail? I hope she alright
bongo desh it’s death penalty for drug deal in China. But I hope she is not get this coz she know nothing
bongo desh By the amount she confssed, 15years, life or excution. Drug crime is very serious in China.
缉毒警察最棒的,敬礼!
It just goes to show no matter how strict the penalty, even it involves execution, the war on drugs is still ineffective and people will still traffick drugs.
巨大的利益会让人敢于触犯法律
Let Australia have it
chinese officer have the best attitude to any people , if in usa , the police will shot people in any case~~
Much respect to this police for putting their lives in danger everyday to help stop such harmful substances from getting in
Please check for yourself how many people China has lifted out of poverty, poverty is not a reason to commit crimes.
Damn, the best part is reading these comments. Some very interesting takes some of you people have on this. This is where the new great minds reside...youtube comments section. Last place on earth you would expect it. That's the beauty of it.

What went into australia that was stopped looked like it was only for one town not a whole country for a year. So its probably 100 times bigger then what they catch.
The Audi contained a rich spoiled brat with no respect for authority. . what a surprise!
I thought that the Chinese police is a bit more scary and not allowing this kind of behaviour towards them. I guess the westernization of their police took some toll..
Good for the Chinese police and their best efforts to suppress the drugtrade and their joint efforts with the Australian police to disrupt their joint drug issues...kudos to them all!!
whats the point ... the problem always there were willing buyers ... all battling a losing battle as long as humanity demands it
lol... U sure are ignorant... The same drugs also cure people by different name and prescription
If ones reads Clive Hamilton's Silent Invasion one does wonder just how hard the Chinese are working to stop drugs.
Hamilton's a propagandist, dude. No scholars take his rubbish books seriously - because they are propaganda.
+Buster Jones You do know about the opium war in China, and that opium was once legal right?
+ZhangtheGreat Ya but the only time drugs are that bad is when a government tries to control them or take them away. Some drugs like meth are just bad but opiates are not as bad as some think. They are just addicting, but so is sugar and coffee and cigarettes and alcohol.
Meyaka B Have you heard about the opium war? Opium was once legal and socially acceptable, it sent China into the dark ages.
Meyaka B You need to learn about what happened to China in the early 19th Century when the government didn't stop the opium trade before you make a statement such as "the only time drugs are that bad is when a government tries to control them or take them away."
I believe they are good people and I think they will find a way for everyone.
I'd like to see China arrest those who are cruel to animals for a change
Booze129 two different things baby
Booze129 I'm going to the Yulen festival want to come?
the cop's eat cat fried rice too. 😂😂😂
Nice video... enjoyed watching...
And i guess everybody that got busted by those guys get killed
it is china after all
really should lets those drugs go to your place...kill your people ...shit head!
Transport enough amount drug is death penalty in China, and it apply to people came from other country.
Truly tragic.
"Controlled knives" lol, wtf?
baller84milw illegal knives
The man was speaking as if Australia is just an 'innocent' victim...drug is mush less of a problem in China than it is in Australia and the US...the punishment is much severe here
How did you determine the value for the drug seizures? Magic propaganda maths?
19:10 if I was ever forced to be told to sing something so fucking stupid I'd quit on the spot
great reporting. loved it. if you could toss in an imperial weight measure now and again for us ignorant americans, that would be awsome
Stupid media. You marked all the faces of Australian police office, but you didn't do that on Chinese police officer. That is disgusting.
lol, no bribes can be made while the western film crew is there ! a bad day for the ppl there!
at 10:30 they taped around his leg
