- In late 2013 I had the chance to travel through Iran for around 5 weeks, a great possibility to see more of a country that captivated my attention in previous years. Mostly making headlines for all the wrong reasons, there had to be more to a country with such a long and diverse history.
This travel video is a modest attempt to show some of the diversity that exists in Iran. It was edited in early 2014 and should be seen in a different (political) context than today's. The economic sanctions, that have recently been eased, were still very much in place. Many people were struggling to make a living, yet there always seemed a way to make things happen.
The openess and welcoming attitude of the Iranian people were probably the things that most impressed me. Walking the ancient bazaars was a great way to meet people and talk about daily life. Almost everywhere I went, I was received with a smile and in many cases a fresh cup of tea.
The video starts with a brief introduction of Iran's modern history. It then shows some different aspects of society, from the rural areas to the cities, from the country's broader economic picture to the role of religion.
It is by no means an attempt to give a full overview of Iran. You would have to read dozens of books, watch countless documentaries, and do more research. The best advice I can give if you want to learn more about this fascinating country, however, is to visit for yourself. No doubt, you will be surprised.

This is the best footage I have ever seen about Iran. It's really accurate and true !
It tells about all Iranian social classes. You can see all the normal people and you can have a good idea about what Iranians and Iran looks like. This is not some bullshit propaganda who only show the rarest and most special Iranians in order to please some political or ideological goal.
Of course this is not ALL Iran, there is more too see, but it pictures really well what the majority of Iranians looks like.

Most people have family or at least people they know there, but some just go to explore as well.
we have a lot of rainfall and snowfall in this month so Iran can be amazing for tourists in next month , because most of Mountains and deserts are colourful by wildflowers

I enjoyed traveling to Iran through your eyes, even though you stayed for a very limited time, only a month or so. I am absolutely positive, that you had done a very extended study, and exploring about Iran before traveling to Iran. Tourists who travel to Iran must have in-depth questions and understandings about the human race. Iran offers a society and culture which has been shaped throughout many centuries. Iran defends its culture and way of living because Iranians enjoy being caring and friendly. Iranians are nature-friendly and human-friendly. As you noticed, Iran is gathering of many different cultures with a different language, but they all chose to be called Persians/Iranians . Upon my prediction, there would be an end of time on earth, but I can't point out its cause, or estimate the time, but I can assure you, country of Iran will be there to witness it.Long Live Iran.

Beautful Iran and beautiful Iranian. North of Iran is heaven on earth. Lush green with tea planted mountains on one side and Caspian sea on the other side. Qizvin is the first city while traveling from Tehran, then Lagrood, Sari and lastly Rasht. Raining is frequent and the weather is cool, damp compared to hot summer months in the rest of Iran. Shahre-Babak, Kirman was the place where I stayed for 5 years working as a doctor. That part of Iran is desert with hot summermonths ,although weather is surprisengly cool in Shahre-Babik. Tehran, Isfahan, Yazd, Kirman, Mashad, Shiraz, Tabrez, Hamadan, Bander Abbas, Abadan are beautiful cities.

its sad to see iranians have to go through some of the hardest times back and even dare to stand against superpowers. who dares that? hats off to these beautiful people. i felt sorry at somepoints but realized it couldnt have been anybetter than this. We know how badly libya, egypt, syria, iraq got tricked but Iran is standing strong and I am proud of it no matter shia or sunni, we love as a muslim

how come you went to so many deserted places?
i ask this because most tourists just take the routine route , tehran ,Damavand ,Isfahan ,SHiraz and Yazd and back to tehran but you broke that routine and went to places i admit i had never been or seen . i was amazed .

Was that Bazaar you visited in Tabriz by any chance? Its a shame you didn't visit the North of Iran along the Caspian; very lush, green and beautiful there. The Road from Tehran to the Caspian is quite an eye opener too! Glad you enjoyed your stay :)

I appreciate the various aspects of the Iranian culture, history and tradition that is being presented in the documentary. Having said that I would say 5 weeks is a short time to be able to appreciate a civilization that dates back to 1000 BC. I would in my life would like to visit Isfahan and Shiraz. Iran is a beautiful country and it deserves to be portrayed to the western world the way it is with its rich culture and civilization.
P.S. I wonder why Mashhad was not mentioned in in the documentary.

I am also glad that you called the stretch of water to the south of Iran by its proper name that has been used for more than 2000 years, the Persian Gulf. It seems that the Arabs and the BBC are the only two interested parties that refarin from calling it the Persian Gulf, always the Gulf or at times the Arabian Gulf which incidentally is geographically incorrect. What I love watching was their pride for their history. Afganistan taliban demolished buddhist statues, similar things happened in syria, Iraq. TheyTry to wipe out all non muslim history but same is not for Iran. It cherishes it's history alongside it's religion. this amaze me the most. Also, most Islamic countries are too conservative but on contrast Iran is liberal and gives importance of freedom of choice which is not only good but also an eye opener for other islamic countries.
The hindi word bazaar and many other words are derived directly from persian which highlights the links between india and iran.
Even bodybuilding ways are similar. And yes special to mention their love for poetry which clearly demonstrates knowledge is mightier than swords.

Although very eyeopening and nicely edited, as an Iranian I have a complaint to make. The music that you used is considered a stereotypical "desert" music and has little to nothing to do with Iran. Traditional and modern Iranian music is completely different than what you have used in your otherwise very nicely done documentary. Thanks for visiting our country. :)

It's not a bias or bigoted documentary, but in my neutral opinion on " The Documentary" Politics and Religion gets much more attention than needed. Out of 34 minutes nearly 11-14 minutes are spent on either politics or religion. Iran has much more to offer than religion and politics.

Am from India being in such great cultural mother I loved Iran and found many similarities with our country, am not a follower of Islam but till now had a wrong perception about Islamic countries because of my poor knowledge gained by different wars like gulf war, Syrian civil war Egyptian war and our lovely neighborhood but this video changed my perception over Islamic countries and governance and their culture.... lovely work now I really want to visit Iran but right away can't afford due to economic reasons and few commitments so pls visit places and upload such wonderful videos 😍😘😅😝🙏👍👌.. thank you sir.

A very neutral docu, this is what alot of people including me search for, unfortunately very few such examples nowdays. Only the fear mongering and beating of war drums. Off course, i knew Iran is nothing like what/how they portray in the western media, because they have the same perception about all Muslim majority countries(their allies exempted). But hey! thats them, aint nothing we can do about it.

Hi hoffer, I couldn't recommend you more but to visit najaf to karbala, Iraq by walk. This is an estimate 3 to 4 day walk to reach karbala before or at aashoora. You could see the heaven on Earth while walking along the road.

From London...Enjoyed this video a lot and Iranians seem very nice people. I have a question......What do Iranian Muslim women really think about having no freedom of choice in how they dress. With their hair covered and dressed all in black they look very oppressed to me have no identity of their own. Maybe the men should abandon their designer clothes and dress like their women have to and see how it feels. Although England isn't perfect I'm glad I come from a country that allows you to have freedom of choice in how you dress and live your life without government or religious interference.

I agree, women are forced to wear hijab and that's oppressive, but there's just one thing wrong: not everyone wears those black robes. The Iranian women I've seen wear literally just western clothes with a scarf covering half their hair ( just search it up), but yes, i agree
