That Ventrac is an absolute beast!
What a great piece of equipment.
Looking forward to watching the bermuda come to life!
I'm sure whatever you decide to do will be beautiful. Thanks for sharing brother.
I would landscape beside the drive, just like a balance of turf and landscaping. Love your videos and how you lift up our King!
Amen!
I'd go with shrub/flower landscape next to drive coming into property. Would make it POP for sure!
You are correct Pete! I had 90% junk and maybe 10% Bermuda. I didn't do a renovation because of the difficulty with our heavy rain season and our hill side. This will be the 3rd summer of selective herbicide and lots of pre-ermergent. We are now 90% Bermuda and this is the summer that we are really pumping that nitrogen to thicken the turf. It has been way more expensive than a Reno would have been. But it's been a very rewarding process and an enjoyable labor ! Almost therapeutic. God Bless you and your family! Thanks for the info Pete!
It will be your showroom, so show what you can do. Perfectly straight lines with well defined edges, gracefully sloping curves with plantings to soften the edges, a bed of annuals as a color pop, etc. Show them your diversity so they can simply point at what they want in their own landscape and have you add that to to their own different areas. If you can, add some shady options as well for a full gamut of options.
Turf with plants is my vote love a pop of color
Bed next to the Parking Lot less headache less water. It will make a nice 3 sided frame - if you will - Just one Fans opinion.
Pete, my wife and I think you should carry the bed with a curve at the side of your driveway. I really think doing that will look amazing and make the Bermuda grass really POP! excited to see your progress on this project.
I’d do a bed along the drive to separate the turf. Low growing plants like you mentioned. Nice clean edges like you always do and you’ll have a real beauty. Keep up the great work Pete!
I would border along the parking lot and also put some kind of break from the roadside with maybe some big rocks and gravel. Would stop people from driving on your turf and also stop any debris from the road flying on your grass. You don't want to be hitting road debris with the Allett and messing up your blades
Just used a walk behind tiller Saturday to regrade a hill in my front yard. Talk about a workout! I’m still sore! It’s gonna look so good though with that rye kbg blend!
Learned so much from this video that helped me think of an approach to my yard. I'm going old school. Killing off all the weeds in my backyard and tilling the hell out of it, racking it smooth and seeding. It's the old school way and how folks back home in rural NC would start their new yards from scratch. I can do it!
I would put in a simple cement sidewalk in that part next to parking lot. Make it Level with the grade just like if it were a sidewalk at a residence. Then bring that new grass up to the new sidewalk.
Reason: Then you can give people a visual of what the grass would look like next to a nice clean sidewalk. With edging and trimming as necessary, the fresh sidewalk next to the excellent green (with lines) would just pop. The sidewalk would also double as a border to your parking lot.
Just my opinion. Thank you for all that you do sir!
A low growing bed of variegated hostas and your fancy border grass from the house (cant remember the name) would look great with small bushes. It would also help keep trucks off the turf close the entrance and eliminate weed eating around the mailbox and telephone pole.
Good job brother doing a great job love your work God bless u from Douglas AZ
If I had all the big boy toys like Pete my rate would be 60/40 too 😆. You make this look too easy. Good stuff man!
I would showcase your abilities for the folks who drive by and haven't seen your channel or home how you do natural areas at home. I can picture pine needles and some nice plants like you do so well...maybe add a crap myrtle later and have one of those cement strips poured to tie it all in.
I thought about doing the concrete edging...a guy close to me does that
I love how you spend the time to REALLY dig into testing
it is very fun for me!
Turf to the driveway. Then people can see the stripes in full effect when driving by.
turf it and i'm assuming this is your business location? is so would make a good spot for a future sign, have good view for traffic coming from both ways
Hey Pete. You gotta run the garden bed along the driveway. Its a much better seperation from gravel to mulch then gravel to grass, easier to hide the uneven gravel line.
Love the content. Looking forward to the end product.
👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Welcome to the Bermuda family!!! Georgia boy here!
Id take and mark a perfect straight line in the driveway and saw cut it laser straight. Then take the turf all the way to it. Nothing screams professional to me more than laser straight edging and clean turf lines. Thanks for the videos. Bought my first house in Ashland, VA and working on getting ready to order some of your tall fescue for about a 10k SQF yard this fall. Can't wait to get it going!!
Such a cool project. Love the idea of the bed surrounding the turf area.
Keep it natural to the gravel. That way you still have the access you need to maintain it. Plus any utilities can be repaired easily.
I tell you one thing, when I get out of New York, and get my house in South Carolina, I know what seed I’m gonna buy! I can’t wait! As for the drive, o would put some nice stone and some shrubbery with a sweet sign.
Admit it Pete, you wanted to up the organic material percentage of that area before you went with the bermuda, just to give it that extra oomph. I think a large river rock bed about 3' wide along the driveway would look really cool.
I would curve it out, plant some ever green type bushes over the cable line area.
Lookin’ great, Pete! Can’t wait to see the final product.
Awesome video. Answered most of my questions on a renovation. I’d go crushed stone on your undecided area. Trucks, trailers ,cars ,Plows are gonna clip that area at some point. Or split it 3’ crushed stone then 3’ flower beds
Bring some of the turf to the drive so you have an access point to mow it. That's a fairly busy street there to be accessing the turf from.
Turf up to the parking lot. That presents some more challenges that I’d like to see you handle
Finally got to watch till the end. It's going to look great Pete. I vote a border near the drive, not grass so you can get those sharp edges you like. And a huge GCI Turf Services sign 👍😀⭐️
C'mon people, lets get more subscribers for Pete! Let's get him at least past that 100k. Such good info/content in EVERY video and I Thank you my friend!
Nicely done! Well thought out.
Turf to the driveway 💯 That way you can see the stripes driving in, and will have easier mower/equipment access to the area.
true this
Looking good man! Tons of hard work. I love the idea of the 6 foot beds as that and the Bermuda will dress up your shop to another level!!! As far as the driveway area, I'd just plant some grass. It will also help getting your machines to cut and fertilize in and out easily and alot of people have grass bordering a driveway and this will allow you to show people how you address areas like that. Just my opinion...Have a great week!
have a good week as well friend
You should have the beds go against the driveway, but have a 10 or 15ft section of turf the goes to the driveway. Basically an opening like a driveway to the turf.
Pete, can u give us a price of what it takes to renovate a yard if u have the equipment? Just maybe a roundabout figure per acre for chemicals, seed, fertilizer, etc?
I would put in a beautiful sign, maybe out of stone with your company name on it with some kind of water feature included around it
Being the cable (your company lifeline) may only be buried 6" deep, a bed might be the way to go. Only make it functional for equipment accessibility. Put some color in there like red double knock-out roses and variegated liriopi. Maybe a nice company sign too. Give it that outdoor natural look that's inviting to all the passerby. ~ mike in VA
Turf all the way to the driveway. Can’t wait to see it all come together....again!!
I think a bed along the driveway will look great. You’ll just need to leave a pathway somewhere to access the turf with your mowing equipment, etc. I’m looking forward to following along with the process.
I like turf to the drive.
Brother Pete, as for the outer edge along the driveway, since your internet line runs donw that area, I'd go with some color (such as flowering shrubs). Maybe use rocks for the bedding there.
By the way, that tiller is killer!!!! 👍🏽🚜
Also, I'm eager to see a video on designing an irrigation system.
Got my heatwave in last week, waiting on the weather for the dirt work crew to come in and regrade the backyard. I'm so excited for this renovation!
same here!
I vote for natural bed area to line the driveway. Can’t wait to see the finished product Pete!
Learned a lot from you recently. I appreciate you. Can’t wait to see the results. Question- Your a expert on Tall Fescue. Could you do a video on what to do in summer in California on tall fescue that would be a real blessing to us out herr in Cali!!!?
Wish I had cool tools like these..
Pete, My vote would be to clean up the edge at the driveway and bring the grass right up to it. I think it would be easier to mow as well.
SIR, SUGGEST APROX. 12 FOOT OF STONE INBOARD FROM THE BUSY ROAD, TRAFFIC FLYING BY POSSES A RISK. I DON'T HAVE TO TELL YOU THE ISSUES THAT CAN CROP UP !
Just had a neighbor do this after watching this video last week and boy ooo boy the dirt isn't this fine!
Looking forward to the irrigation video
Oh boy!! Been waiting for a while to see this get started! Exciting stuff, Pete! I think it would real nice to carry the bed around down the driveway with, like you said, low growing plants. If you let the turf come out to the driveway, I would recommend creating a curb edge so that it can have a nice tight straight edge. But overall I think a natural area would look best for the overall aesthetic of the whole facility.
I’m leaning this way for sure
I am excited too! I think the road and the driveway should be mower with the rotary. That way you can show the difference the same grass reel vs rotary or mow tall vs low.
I have that black gumbo clay dirt here in North Texas and the bermuda is so strong it holds the dirt together. We get massive cracks in the dirt during drought that are insane. I have measured a crack that a tape measure went down 10 feet in the crack and it was 5 inches wide.
Good one Pete, great to see Burmuda going down, here in Australia 🇦🇺 we call it Couch Grass and I love it
Couch Grass??? firsat for me..LOL
Curve around natural area . So if they need to dig it up they won’t tear up the turf .
I think letting the turf go to the parking lot on the entry side would be best. It would give you good room to turn around when you’re mowing it too.
I would highly recommend some sort of hard edge for your beds. That Bermuda will creep into your beds and take over before you know it if you don’t have a hard edge. Being from Texas And Bermuda being our primary turf grass I’m excited to see you grow this plot from seed!
I normally keep the beds sprayed each week so I could stay on top of that...but I like the edge idea as well
GCI Turf Services they don’t call it “devil grass” for nothing haha! I’m actually working on a 10k square foot Bermuda seed grow myself at the moment. I planted it a bit early so it’s been in the ground about 33 days now and is just now starting to sprout.
been waiting on this series Pete! Looking forward to it. I have taken the bull by the horns and 2020 is my year to start to improve the back yard bermuda. Ive been reel mowing the front, but this year the goal is to grade out and level the back yard and get that bermuda to fill in and get tight!! I see why your indecisive about the border next to the road. It will look nice with the border and plants, but with that said.....it will be easier to mow and maintain without it.
Pete is a man with some serious toys
Carry the bed all the way around ....should look pretty sweet ...God Bless
I think a low natural bed would look great there! It would separate the turf from the parking lot and also bring the entire landscape together!
I am leaning this way for sure...especially so I do not take a chance on hitting those cable lines
Put a concrete curb or sidewalk in to form an easily trimmed edge to separate the grass from the driveway. If you put shrubbery there, then would it make it difficult to get to the area to maintain it.
Pete, if you are offering landscaping along with turf programs, I'd do landscaping on that strip so show off your mad skills. If your business is 100% turf, then the plot needs to be 100% turf!
Looking good Pete, gonna be starting a reno here soon, replacing St Aug with some princess I think.
First, who in the hell would dislike this video?
Second, I know they'll be an explanation for this, but when you used roundup to "smoke" off the cool season turf, isn't putting that poison in the soil bad? Don't you need to remove the actual dead grass?
Anyway, It's weird see ing dirt in that spot again. I did love that turf. Wish I could have driven from New Jersey to get a whole crap load of it.
Thanks for the video, I'll check ya later. 😉
Fun stuff! Excited to see the new GCI Turf Heatwave!
I say plant a bed between the drive and yard. Bring in some color for that nice pop!
Turf to the driveway but I think you should improve the hard edge with maybe a straight cement border so that you can have a super smooth edge!
Natural area by the parking lot with some plants
Another good video Pete learned a lot from your channel God bless!
I'm starting my renovation in north east ohio this week. TTF/KBG mix. killed off the turf last fall and it rotted away thru the winter. I've had good success with spring planting cool weather grass. Bought enough for a healthy overseed in the fall just encase..:)) Just fighting the wet weather right now impacting my roto-tiling ability......thanks Pete
Just curious where did you get that grass seed at? Thank you
@@timberhills1778 ..GCI academy of course
@@jcs1758 ok thats what i thought i went and looked but it must be sold out,i was waiting for it to come available but i never received a email about it which is odd, Thank You
@@timberhills1778 It will be avaiable soon bud...I have the seed in stock....All we have to do is finish up the website work and make it live
Hey pete getting any more of tttf/kbg seed?
Great work! 10:51 love the flag idea!
Where are the followup videos for this project? I’m about to do this very thing I’m about 2.5 acres in East Texas. Thanks!!
Maybe pavers so you can park a few mowers set it off
I'm about to start a fescue renovation in New Jersey...my. yard is like 60 bad 40 good
I say bring the Bermuda out to the driveway!
I think extending the bed will look nice, but selfishly I want to see how you put a nice edge against asphalt because I’m struggling!
Get a concrete saw and cut a tight line down that asphalt driveway right along the edge. Then you can grow your Bermuda right up to it and keep it edged real nice.
Turf all the way to the driveway would look good, but so would a mulch bed showcasing other things your company does. I'd probably just turf it to the driveway since that cable line runs under it.
Since you are making a mini Augusta I would go with a second cut and some ruff on the corner by the driveway. Maybe even a sand bunker?
LOL...that would be cool for sure
showcase what your service provides next to parking lot.
Big expensive machines that us basic home owners don't have
Turf to driveway...it's like you put up a sign saying "Drive on me"
Make a low growing natural area on the pavement edge
It was looking good before you killed it must be lots of grass seeds to fill that big area
I feel like it’s Christmas time in the Deep South. I like all the vids. But this Heatwave Bermuda is intriguing.
I would go with the bed as it can be an advertisement for gci.
All the way up to the driveway would look great.
I’m going to do a HEAVY dethatch and aeration this fall, I live in the transition zone. Have some tall fescue and other grasses. What would you recommend to overseed everything? Kbg or tall fescue or a mix?
I know nothing about this stuff but I think for me, a dummy, a natural area would look good by the entrance up to the parking lot (gravel)....
Johnathan Green Black Beauty Ultra is the grass seed to go to me
Pete, is this going to be a demo plot to show customers the results of a Bermuda renovation? Might want to put an entry of some kind from the parking/driveway area. Let the lawn speak for itself. Be a shame to hide it from the shop/office area. I know your work dude...this is gonna be a masterpiece!
Steve B thank you sir
What was the total amount of topsoil that was brought in the area - last year to now? Just curious. 😎👊
Man I would have to go back and check...I think around 200 cu yds???
GCI Turf Services Wow! Wow! Look like good quality soil too👍
@@GCITurf wow! That's a whole lot of soil!! 1 truck holds 10 yards so just do the math!!
It’d be great to curve all the way around with some boxwood bushes. OR some fruit trees
I'd put the bed by the driveway. It will look more finished
Boom
Turf to the driveway
