- A video showcasing a short night of street photography with Yusuke Nagata from Tokyo SPC. Night photography in Tokyo is popular, but I personally never found a good relationship with it, so wanted to learn some things from Yusuke.... Until something happened.
Keep in mind that we weren't able to take as many photos as we wanted, because this thing happened. Please enjoy nevertheless!

I went to Japan a few months ago and I used to do some late night photo walks and actually felt quite safe.
Now, back in my country I can't do that because of the gangs, drug cartels or even just lowly robbers.
Loved the video as always! the shot at 4:30 is so damn gooooooood, great work my guy :)

Another great video, nice to see Yusuke-san on your channel. Been in Tokyo 2 times and really loved to shoot at the night, LEDs are sometimes annoyed me but Tokyo gives you an unique experience :)

Glad you came to Ikebukuro!! Idk why but I don't feel like shooting in Ikebukuro. Well, I guess the main reason is I live there, but seeing some dope photos from u guys made me feel like I gotta shoot more even it's my home town and kinda sketchy all around the place, haha :') Also, love ur work!! Keep it up! One day I might catch u on the streets!
I really like the shot at 01:05 and man so sorry to hear you were stopped by the Yakuza, must have been a crazy situation. Always wanted to try night photography (properly) but never can truly makes myself go out and about so late ^^

New subscriber here. Really inspiring video. Still waiting for that day we will be allowed go out and do photo shoots outdoors (I do on location fashion photography). It's currently prohibited in my place due to the enforcement of social distancing and other pandemic related stuff. Glad to see you guys being able to go out and create photos again. Do you know the cinematography of Christopher Doyle? A few of your images felt like kindred spirits to his movie shooting.
There are areas in every city where there are sketchy guys who get uncomfortable around cameras. I think they were pretty nice about it in Kabukicho because of them seeing me as a clueless tourist. With no language barrier, the guys in Ikebukuro may have been more direct with Ulyesses.
andgainingspeed yeah, I shoot often at Kabukicho and never had any confrontations...well except black guys asking me if I want to meet some beautiful Japanese women 😂

I like the photo at 4:30, that's really a pity that they stopped you, but for sure it was not really comfortable to go on...
I've often go to shoot in Ikebukuro but I avoid Nishi side... I've been a few times in Romance street and those other sketchy smaller streets, but I never felt welcome haha. I actually prefer Kabukicho for this kind of "ambience", but Kabukicho is really empty compared to pre-covid.

In my city is a little risky to go out and shoot street photography bcs you never know when a drug cartel member or corrupt police officers or soldiers are gonna show up mad or something and maybe seize your camera or worse.
Some abstracts worked well. Film Nikon a rugged workhorse. Would they have treated you better if you were as clean shaven as you were at vid ending??

The north exit there is a red light district and some dudes involved in the sex business are apparently connected to the Yakuza

I was shooting street photography for the first time in Japan last year and I was so afraid of being confronted I used a 85mm on my aps-c canon and even then I was getting occasional stares.
When I tried using my Sigma 18-35 for a more "real street photography" feel, a few girls asked if I was stalking them D:
I think I'll buy a 600mm prime next and adapt it to a m43 body for street photography next time.

Lots of blurry shots shooting handheld on 400 iso at night. Go out with a tripod next time.

Damn..that does ruin the vibe. But see if I was there I would have hit em' with the ラーメン..つけ麺..俺イケメン。That works for me in Nakasu but you have to say it really rough like you're fresh out of The Hub.
