I passed the driver who was illegally parked in the mandatory cycle lane and on the pavement, and shook my head at him as I passed. He was so upset at this that he decided to blast his horn at me. I waved to him with my middle finger, prompting him to blast his horn again, and shout something incomprehensible as he passed.
At the top of the road I passed him again, and he shouted something else incomprehensible as I passed him in the cycle lane. I replied "don't be a cunt mate", to which he responded by driving through a red light, illegally entering the advance stop zone.
After a brief conversation, the driver then drove over the forward stop line, still on the red light, and turned left across my path.
Hopefully their roofing is better than their driving. The company has been contacted for comment.

People see someone on a bike and think it’s free rein in this country.

I would've stopped that police officer and said, "You want to force us into the cycle lanes, but don't do anything about that guy behind you that was just blocking the cycle lane."
You might notice I turned my head to look at them as I passed, just to see if they were looking in my direction or in their mirror at the van driver. Of course they weren't.
Mandatory? You're required to use that POS? It lasts only a short distance before morphing into a bus lane, then more separated cycle lane with painted cycle symbols out in the middle of the street. Traffic engineers on drugs?
Thankfully the "mandatory" aspect means that it's mandatory not to drive into it (let alone park in it), but really just means "it's got a solid line instead of a sashed line along the edge". The police (as usual) don't care about enforcing it.
@@FuckOffUA-camHandles As neatly shown by the police van driving right by. I predict that someone will publish a book of photos of the painting on UK streets (with translations of course!). A new language!
@@FuckOffUA-camHandles Maybe they were busy/on their way somewhere? There isn't enough of them to stop and deal with every little issue in this world. I'm also pretty sure it's no longer the Police's duty to deal with parking offences in Edinburgh.
