Ernest Saves Christmas is a 1988 American Christmas comedy film directed by John R. Cherry III and starring Jim Varney. Santa Claus (Douglas Seale) is looking for his successor, and hapless taxi driver Ernest P. Worrell (Jim Varney) is just the man to help him out. Traveling to Florida to pass his mantle on to children's show host Joe Carruthers (Oliver Clark), Santa gets into unexpected trouble, and it's up to Ernest, along with a teen girl named Harmony (Noelle Parker), to assist Saint Nick with his important mission, or the future of Christmas could be in jeopardy.

Sweet jacket, jabroni!
Mac’s face from the Mac and me poster looks like a gaping butthole. I love Ernest. Merry Christmas
No
@@JoshuaRoberts_V i did not expect a Gremlins reference. But by golly. That was sweet
That intro was frigging awesome!
RIP Jim Varney, A comedic genius we lost too soon.

Ernest P Worrell, at your service
The original rubber faced comedian before Jim Carrey
Don't forget the guy that played Santa, who was the original Sultan in Aladdin. He was a charming little guy who used to be in a lot of movies
😢
He died exactly 2 months before I was born!
Wow I knew he passed early but I didn't realize he was only 50
The snake wrangler scene is easily one of Ernest's best. I also love when he's singing the Christmas Tree song, and he only knows the one lyric which he sings over and over again:
Oh Christmas tree, oh, Christmas Tree, oh Christmas Treeeeee, oh, Christmas tree.
The shot from Vern's POV when Ernest goes "Ho ho ho, Vern!" and the door slams in his face before Ernest wipes out his house with the tree is the money laugh for me.
Poor James, lol. You guys are being so harsh to this movie and James is like "it's not that bad!"
@@Mushtaco He must be the Scrooge of Christmas movies.
Tony’s just an idiot
You tards cant take criticism. Let them bash this movie
@The Unknown Psycho: The problem with criticism is that it's pretty much the same as saying that no one else should be allowed to like something that they criticize just because they said so, and that's why I think criticism is completely unnecessary IMO.
Well it is just there opinions. I still enjoy the movies, and I’m not blinded by the faults the two pointed out.
In a world where everything is cloaked in five layers of irony, props for reminding us of the Importance of Being Ernest.
Brilliant
If you go into an Ernest movie trying to analyze the plot, you’re going to have a bad time
You've lost the plot?
@@vxrdrummerlol. This dude is tarded

Ernest Saves Christmas & Ernest Scared Stupid are my favorite Ernest films!
Ernest Saves Christmas is actually my favorite Ernest movie! it's also my 2nd favorite christmas movie and i ALWAYS recommend it! and if your stores don't have it you can buy the dvd online for about $10. and i think it's an excellent and worthy addition to ANY christmas movie collection!
@@derek-64 what's your favorite?
@@bigkmoviesandgames dude, did you not read my comment? it's my FAVORITE Ernest Movie!
@@derek-64 I think he means what's your favorite Christmas movie?
@@SausageMahoney13 probably. but my favorite christmas movie is National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation. although Ernest Saves Christmas is a VERY close 2nd. almost ties with Christmas Vacation. but both are excellent movies i watch EVERY year!
*edit* i reread it and i believe that's what he was asking. sorry if i read it wrong. brain does not want to cooperate.
I really like the Santa character in this movie. The way he acts makes it feel like he really is Santa
that's one of the reasons I really enjoy this movie
During the week of the movie's release, Jim Varney was asked why it had received a PG rating. "Unusual cruelty to reindeer," he replied. LOL.
"This isn't the best Ernest movie." *List how they loved every scene*
@Stop Banningme Sure, scroll up to the video and press play.
If only we had "Ernest Host Thanksgiving." Then we would have a Ernest Holiday Trilogy.
_Ernest Gets The Bird_
@@JoshuaRoberts_V no one would do that, no one is dumb enough for that
I would love to own the Holiday box set of classic Ernest films.
@@Badusername2000 Have you seen the reboots most movies/TV shows that have been made? Intelligence doesn't have anything to do with it. Money and quantity over quality is what rules the entertainment industry.
A remake can't ruin a series just don't watch the fuckin thing if you don't like it but someone will love it and it's made for them not you.
Really cant forget "goes to camp" hands down one of the best ernest films!
Woah forgot about goes to camp. What a great flick back in the day
No, no, no, Slam Dunk Ernest is where it's at!
I'm sure they will get to that one. Though the sad thing is that's about the last decent film he put out. They wont have any good one's to review after that especially if they already didn't like the Christmas one.
Varney a physical comedy legend. S-tier mfw reactions
My favorite part is Ernest doing the snake wrangeler. "You want one for ya boy?"
Rock of ages...
Absolutely the best
I gave one to my boy last year... That's all these movie people want... Poison!
@@theWoodrow321 Po-I-son!
i love it when Ernest and harmony(the girl) show up to vern's house and bust open the door. HO HO HO, vern! MERRY- **SLAM!!** i thought you said this vern was a friend of yours. oohhh, vern's just like that! he'll do anything for a laugh!
Love that James is wearing Charlies jacket from Always Sunny.
Oh snap he is hell yeasssssss sunny is so funny love that show
It's always a great episode when James does a lot of talking.
I agree. Im slowly getting tired of how snobbish and obnoxious the other two are.
I don't know why people hate the movie, Ernest saves christmas is a good family movie.
I love it haha
That and ernest goes to camp are the best ones
People don't hate it the movie is normally highly rated among Ernest fans and holiday movie fans.
I love the ernest films. They're corny but fun.
ernest* and yes they're corny and cheesy but that's all part of the ernest charm! now go watch it!
@@derek-64 ernest savs christmas is a fun family christmas comedy
@@justintahair9119 that's right. and it doesn't have to make a lot of sense. it's a silly, wacky, cheesy, corny, warmhearted christmas movie.
the neck brace absolutely MAKES the old lady character. It's just too perfect.
I’m with James. It’s just a fun movie, but doesn’t have a lot of depth, obviously.
But it’s a Christmas film. What do you expect.
true the plot does not havealot of deph but then again jim was good at taking a simple little thing and blowing it out of porportion
You should complete the Ernest movies or at least do Ernest goes to Camp.
I love Ernest Goes to Camp
Ernest goes to camp rules!!! I pissed myself laughing as a child. And my son does as well. Rip him Varney
Ernest goes to camp is my favorite one
Right? Id even love to see his take on the straight to video titles
I just want to hear James talk about the movie. Get these two scrooges outta here!
Great input from all! Tony and Justin are great! :)
I usually like their input, but they didn't really seem to want to do this one.
For real! Get these negative Nancy’s out of here. We like James bc he’s funny when shit talking a movie or game, these guys just sounded like whiners.
I like the contrasting perspectives from all of them
Douglas Seale is the best version of Santa ever.
He is honestly one of the best portrayals of santa in cinema.
"He doesn't look like Santa" jesus christ you two.... lol
I think Justin and Tony are putting too much thought into this movie. lol
and there's a little too much pessimism in this as well. just sit back and laugh your ass off!
I never thought I'd hear Ernest and Hellraiser used legitimately in the same sentence. Just imagine if there was ever an 'Ernest Goes to Hell' movie.
The Ernest movies were a huge part of my childhood, my folks liked it, I loved it, and when he died I really was bummed.
"Know what I mean?" -Ernest
Even when he sucks he is beyond reproach. He is Ernest.
I used to watch this movie a lot when I was a kid. It was actually the Ernest movie I saw the most.
Ernest goes to camp will always be my favorite
Aw man that part where Pamela realizes she screwed up and runs back to apologize to Santa. When she speaks the words “I’m sorry.” that’s an uppercut to the heart. The whole movie is chock full of cheese and corn, but that one line was top gun acting.
I still say Ernest Goes to Camp is the best Ernest movie.
Shanon Skinner agreed
The knife sharpening scene made my Dad lose it. Probably the hardest I've ever seen him laugh.
Every time the golf cart rolls through a scene 🤣😂🤣
Saw this in the theater with my parents. The air brakes joke got mega laughs. Looking back in hindsight undersells the fact that these movie were made for theatre viewing. I saw them all in the theatre and everyone loved them! Jim Varney was such a talent. Loved the show too!
You gotta do Earnest goes to Camp. It's the best one.
This movie is great. A must for every Christmas
i watch it every single year
Earnest goes to camp. Him and the turtle scene used to make me cry
Ernest: "Ho ho ho, Verne! Merry-" (gets the door shut on him) XD
"i thought you said this vern was a friend of yours"
"oohhhh, vern's just like that. he'll do anything for a laugh. c'mon!"
The Auntie Nelda character is hilarious. One of his best characters.
James is right. To the other two: bah humbug!
My favorite scene is ernest dressed as the little old lady.
"Ah,that's life dear.
You have 2 sons one good one bad,and wouldn't you know it with my luck....the good one dies" 😆😆😆
I just bought this last month!! Merry Christmas everyone!!
Bum-Hug.
gamma dwarf merry Christmas buddy ❤️
This movie was always a Christmas favorite with my family. It is a true classic. The snake man bit is so damn funny “I bought one for my boy last year.” 😂
it is a classic indeed. VERY underrated, though. stores around here NEVER carry it. damn shame, too. i ALWAYS recommend this!
This is one of the best Christmas movies. The Santa is one of the best Santa characters ever.
This one has always been one of my guilty pleasure movies. I try to watch it every Christmas. I was also surprised that you didn't bring up the cameo by Liam Neeson as one of the inmates.
When I was a kid in the 90's the only time I could ever see the Ernest movies were when they aired on TV, my parents didn't like to rent movies very often. I always loved them so much, they were so hilarious and nonsensical and especially because I would rarely ever see one or even knew how many existed, the Ernest series always had a bit of mysticism to it. Whenever I did get lucky enough to be around when it was airing I knew I was in for a great light-hearted movie.
I haven't however seen them since those days and now that's it's been more than 20 years I wonder how they hold up!
Ernest goes to camp was the O.G. Ernest movie
James you're good but there's a special place in HELL for people that talk bad about Earnest P Worrall movies not to mention at Christmas time....
IFC this morning, anyone? I caught it. Director John Cherry said this was his favorite Ernest creation.
I can’t believe you guys never mention “Ernest Goes to Camp”. Easily my all time favorite Ernest movie.
Ernest pressing the light speed button on the sleigh was my favorite scene.
or when he tries to prop up the tree, gets distracted by punch, and the tree falls on him.
Actually, the old man in red clothes Santa version was create by Coca-Cola back in the 40's or 50's. I watched a documentary about Coca-Cola back in the day and they talked about that.
I mean that's not quite true, they're just responsible for that being the ONLY image of santa, instead of it being ONE OF the available popular images of santa.
@@KairuHakubi So, where was born the name Santa Clause?
Ernest often advertised Coca-Cola products. This is probably the reason for the Coca-Cola product placement in this movie.
I even heard rumors that Santa wears red to advertise Coca Cola.
ah yes a true holiday classic about kindness and the true meaning of Christmas
it's an excellent and most worthy addition to ANY christmas movie collection! it's also my favorite Ernest movie! ;)
It's not that bad a movie guys. James, I'm with you I also like this movie.
My favorite Ernest movie.. Ernest Rides Again, lot's of Ernest in that one with many great moments :) Do that one next James!
Why no mention of "Ernest goes to camp" ? To me, that might have been the best movie with that character.
Jim Varney was also very endearing as Jed Clampette in the Beverly Hillbillies film. RIP and respect
I haven’t seen this since I was a kid but I loved the the part with Ernest bringing in the Christmas tree. It was scenes like that that made Ernest.
My favorite scene:
Ernest "Nobody Moves, Nobody Dies!"
Elf "Aahhhchooo"
Everyone "AGGGHHHHHHHHHH"
"Hey Vern"
No disrespect to James but these hacks don't know jack about Christmas or Enest P. Worrel or how pancakes work.
No, they understand theatrical pancakes only all to well. The pancake thing has been going on at least since the Three Stooges back in the thirties.
At least it's not The Santa Clause rules where he's Santa until he is killed by Tim Allen.
If James grows his stubble a little and puts a Santa suit on then uses the Nerds bad language you've got the perfect replacement for Billy Bob Thornton in Bad Santa 3 😂😂😂
This movie has the best film Santa ever and I don't care what anyone says. He's so charming and kind.
4:59: "he doesn't look like Santa!" That's because you're thinking of the modern-age Coca Cola design of Santa
"All Santas Go To Retirement Homes" there's a movie for ya
Love this movie. When he visits Vern it's like him dropping by your house .
I love the Xmas lights on the counter not being unrolled. Nice touch.
That’s not flying, that’s walking on the ceiling with style
With Lionel Richie flair!
"Watching Santa wither and get old and die...isn't fun." Best line ever.
ya'll better do Ernest Goes to Camp next summer. I wanna know what he makes of Ernest's musical number.
Tony and Justin dont know what they are talking about. This is one of Ernest's best movies and a favorite xmas movie. Local tv here is playing it every year, and it is still funny.
Can we all agree Douglas Seale is one of the best Santas to be on film?
Yes.
James talks about children christmas movies with two scrooges, jfc
One of my favorite Christmas movies!!!
Two seconds in and I'm already laughing at Gizmo! Hahaha
I still think Ernest Goes to Camp is the Best :)
This movie will always be one of my favorite Christmas movies to watch
I'm pretty sure that '69' was a deliberate placement.
I'm glad you guys give attention to the ernest series
You’re wrong, this movie is a masterpiece
One of my favorite Christmas movies ever.
literally was watching the Scared Stupid review as this was uploaded. lol
I always liked the guy they got to play Santa for this movie.
Me too.
Imo he was one of the best Santa's in a Christmas movie.
My all time favorite has to be the
"Asshole santa" from a Christmas story.
"If he thinks I'm staying one minute past 9:00 he can kiss my foot (turns head) ho,ho,ho merry Christmas" 😆😆
I'm with James, I love this movie.
I just watched the movie with my family and we were hysterical. I'm so shocked you guys tore this a new one (except James) It's a FUN movie! I do agree it feels a little different than some of the other ones, but I thought it was still really funny, especially the car scenes at the beginning - what an intro!
I thought earnest goes to camp was the best one he did
This is hands down my favourite Christmas movie of all time.
Happy holidays my fellow nerds!
Persona Slates *Merry Christmas
"Ernest Goes To Camp" is the best of them all.
I love how every review is 2 or 3 guys cutting each other off, talking over one another to be seen by viewers as the most knowledgeable of the bunch. Then there's Justin, in the middle, patiently waiting for everyone to stfu so he can inject his comment. I'm not saying change anything. The level of passion the over-talkers have is real.
To be honest, its mostly tony who talks over people. Its getting really grating honestly.
It's kind of how real conversations work, honestly. Depending on the people in the conversation, obviously.
Please keep going with the Ernest movies. Goes to the NBA, goes to Africa, rides again, all great movies.
“I don’t like Christmas.”
*Proceeds to play Christmas movie*
Sameer Kumar ehh I can see where he’s coming from. I don’t like Xmas, but it’s more just chill idea of it, but having to deal with the stress of it and such. Like I love sitting down, having sugar cookies, watching a Xmas movie in the warmth of my room while it’s snowing outside. But having to do shopping, cramped family get together, decorating in the cold, it all puts me off. But the idea of it pleases me. Hard to explain.
@@Spider_Mike023 You like a "low-key" Xmas. Just the important parts, without all the hooplah.
Christmas dislike for some i think has to do with the fact decrations keep appearing earlier and earlier for christmas. I saw both christmas and halloween decorations at the begining of october.
Ernest movies were always lit 🔥😂😂
Never get tired of Ernest Saves Christmas!
it's MANDATORY viewing every single year for me! it's a must watch!
Never in my life did i expect someone to compare an Ernest movie to a Hellraiser movie.
Ernest movies, Always harmless fun
I actually really like this movie. My favorite Ernest movies are probably scared stupid and goes to camp, but this was always one of my favorite Christmas movies. It seemed to be on TV a lot growing up.
Everyone hates Christmas these days. Lol.
Good luck defending a Christmas movie James!
If I hadn't worked there for three years, my wanting that trucker style Blockbuster hat in front of Tony would really make me question if I'm a hipster deep down.
Then I remember, I don't own any flannel, or sunglasses. Whew! Seriously though, Cinemassacre crew, love the way you guys decorate for these "stores" for your videos!
