Hello, everyone! For whatever reason, out of all the short films we have done on our channel, this one has received the most views by far. As well as being the most popular by views, it is also the most polarizing film we have. Up to this point, the film has the most likes and dislikes of any of our videos, and many explanations as to why some viewers like it and why others do not have been offered. I would just like to offer some insight as to the production and purpose of this short film: it was almost purely for practice purposes, with an emphasis on improved cinematography being the real goal. Additionally, this is the last film we ever made whilst using the first mic we ever purchased, and it seemed to have ceased to properly function, hence the audio quality. I liked it but I felt the passing was a bit slow. In our day and age people have a short attention span so if the video is 10 minutes there has to be a lot going on. Also I felt that you were kind of over using the close ups. They are usually meant to show the audience something important to the story and a lot of things weren’t very relevant to the story. Every shot should move the story forward, and reveal new information. I know that’s hard to do sometimes, but you should at least aim for that. I felt that a lot of shots looked very pretty but felt like filler. Also I noticed how when you closed up to something and zoomed out with the camera it felt a bit laggy and made it look bad. Maybe try backing away instead to make that effect or a mixture of the two.
Thanks for the notes, Marco! We were going for a slow-burn with this one, those are the kind of fils from the real industry I feel myself typically drawn to. The Blackcoat's Daughter is an example of a slow film that I love that hasn't received a ton of praise from the general community, but we have to remember that sometimes an artist's vision just won't work for us. Thanks for watching, man
I am an animal lover. So I can't help but notice that the cat was referred to by the owner and the girl that was supposed to take care of the cat as nothing more than "the cat". The owner did not even name a supposed member of the family and just wrote thanks for taking care of "the cat". It is not a technical issue but if it was a human child and it was only referred to as "the kid", people would have a problem.
If you think your film is total perfection and cannot be improved upon in any way - I guess that is all that matters and has nothing to do with viewers perception. I have seen the most amazing short films, brilliantly executed - from three minutes long to 30. I think the filmmakers of those gems likely listened to feedback and looked at how they could make their films better. I know as a writer, that's what I've done for about 45 years. I made a comment about some issues with a film I saw that had the makings of being very good. The filmmakers responded with a thank you saying they had noticed the issues as soon as it was published. They had already addressed those issues and I went to their site to see the newly finished film. It was great. Your comment "is there such a thing as a short 9:38" doesn't make any sense to me. No idea what you mean. I do know that some of the most incredible short films I've seen maybe 4 minutes and not feel short and other's are over 30 minutes and do not feel long.
@@aviewfroma-broad5050 my GOD no one can pick up on sarcasm anymore, ahem, ma'am, madame, Ms., your comment came off as a list of observations, there was no critique positive or negative in what you said, your original comment also stated that the film is a "Very long 9:38 minute film" which implies it is possible for their to be a short 9:38 film just observing the logistics of basic language, my pinned comment at the top of this comment section clearly indicates that to me this film is far from perfect, but I must apologize, I prefer the slow burners, so long and lingering shots are what I prefer, so I'm afraid our styles will never mesh, and the biggest critic of anything I have ever made is myself, so thank you for watching, but perhaps word future comments in a way that implies you're making an attempt at being critical, because as is they appear to just be stating facts

@@secondhandguru3558 no..of course I didn't! I am not sure why you replied to me, but I am not the one that made the original comment. I only replied to it. 🙃
Sorry...but this just didn't do it for me. At all. I mean, the cat was cute. 1st, she is just wandering aimlessly around the house. Any self-respecting teen this day in age would be either watching tv or playing on her phone. Then she is frightened, so what does she do? She goes to check out the closet and decides "Hmmm... I think I will stand here and stare at the wall for about 2 minutes!" (not sure if it was quite that long, but when you are talking about a less than 10 minute film, it seemed like 10 minutes! Then we get LOTS of slow drawn out close-ups of doorknobs. Ya know what... that's enough. You get the point. I could have done this movie in about 2 minutes. As it was, I could barely stay awake for all of 9.5 minutes! Maybe next time....
Sorry you did not enjoy my short film, Kathy. To address your points; making a movie starring a stereotypical teenager on either their phone or watching a tv isn't on my radar and not something I plan to do, she didn't stare at the wall for 2 minutes haha, that scene is about 1 minute and is in slow-motion if you didn't catch that, I have always preferred slow-burns to anything with a faster pace, the doorknob shots were to build tension but it's alright if that didn't work for you. It sounds to me like you need a nap, friend. I don't mind critical comments, criticism is a doorway to improvement, as I've addressed while responding to previous comments, this film was mostly for practice, so I'm not upset that you didn't like it, but to say that you could make the film or anything similar in 2 minutes is not only logically and factually false, it's also absurd and arrogant. Thanks for watching the film, chief, curious as to why you subscribed seeing as you hated the film, but maybe one of our many other shorts will be to your liking, have a wonderful day, Kathy
@@14thHourFilms well, it's apparent that my comment was mistaken. And that's ok..its hard to express, and to get, the feeling or nuance there might be behind a text. And I am not going to spar with you. But I just wanted to address the 2 minute comment, because I think that was the most misunderstood. What I meant by that was the slow-motion, which, no, I did not catch that. And having gone back and re-watched, I still don't see any indication that it was meant to be slow-mo. The doorknob scenes. Just the things that made it feel like it was dragging. Ok..2 minutes is a bit of a stretch... I get that! But that's where the nuance thing comes in again. I just meant that, for me, it didn't work. But, it wasn't my film, right? I did not say it was a BAD film. What I said, as a matter of fact, it was my very 1st sentence, was that it didn't work for ME. Obviously other people appreciated it. I am honestly sorry if you took my comment as an "attack". It wasn't meant to be. It was simply MY take on it. And here we are at that nuance/feeling thing again. And, we can't ever make EVERYONE happy, so, if you are happy with the film as is, than, by all means, be proud of it! You should be! We can agree to disagree, right? Have a good day... And I hope this maybe cleared up my intentions behind my comment. *PS: The "Need a nap" thing was cute!* 😆

Scary movie
is this student film? of what????
nope
I am an animal lover. So I can't help but notice that the cat was referred to by the owner and the girl that was supposed to take care of the cat as nothing more than "the cat". The owner did not even name a supposed member of the family and just wrote thanks for taking care of "the cat". It is not a technical issue but if it was a human child and it was only referred to as "the kid", people would have a problem.
I am sorry for my lack of having named the cat lol
Very long 9:38 minute film. Lots of black screens and the longest shots of doorknobs and hallways.
is there such thing as a short 9:38 film?
I was waiting for the door to start to be rattled but what the hell is it with the hand coming out at 3:41 kind of looked stupid lol .Weird af video, why the hell couldn't make out something coming at her with her peripheral vision.
this is fake
are you sure
Of course it is... it's a MOVIE! Not a documentary or something

@@MissTique247 I agree with you on the 'supposed' slow motion,it did not seem to be 'slow motion' I unfortunately found the movie did drag a lot.
