Here’s the beauty about graphic design. You can work for a company, where the client asks for a certain thing and you have to create it cater to the client. Or you can a be a free lancer your work can be what you want, you create any piece you want and sell it.
I feel like you can run out of ideas while you are at uni (trust me been there :D), but when you are working is different because most of the time you are not alone, you are working with a team and brainstorming a lot, so lots of new ideas are born and as Alondra said often clients have ideas and you just make their ideas happen. Hi Emmy, great work for first year. You certainly have the flair for transferring your already outstanding pencil and ink work to the digital world. I myself used to be a fairly good drawer but lack of continuity stopped that. I did go too university to study Graphic Communication at what was called Norwich University College of the arts NUCA for short. I left in 2012 after successfully completing my course. Some time after they changed the name and gave it full University status I kinda feel robbed of a degree on paper because it still says college but hey ho. Keep up the good work and I look forward for your next video. Buy the way what are using for your digital production. On both you MacBook Pro and your iPad Pro
For some reason, youtube recommended me graphic design videos and then after that I found yours......and now I wish I had studied this? This legitimately sounds and looks like my dream subject and job (I study media though)
I quite liked your magazine design there. Some nice thoughts going into it showing decent potential. I’ve I interviewed creatives for roles that have shown basic fundamental issues that is absent from your work. Keep up the great work. Do you have any thoughts yet about which direction you wish to pursue in the field?
Initialgs what do you mean absent from my work? Thank you, not sure yet! Would like to go on to do a masters in marketing and see from there as I have no idea. Doing a lot of freelance work for local clients currently
Ah I just read back what I wrote and I’m not sure if it came across how it was intended! Apologies. I was trying to say your mag work (my field) didn’t show the same basic errors I have seen from arguably more ‘experienced’ creatives. It’s actually quite refreshing. Simple things really. A clean simple grid and good margins. Nothing overly fussy for the sake of it. Haha I do hope I’m not coming across as condescending 😳. Perils of age I’m afraid (30 years in publishing, starting waaay before DTP was a thing and letraset was your friend haha).
I'm going into Fashion Marketing and I think this would be a good fit, since you posters and all of that, but I'm not that good at drawing. Would doing Graphic Design as my minor be a good fit, do you think? Since it's mostly digital.
all was well until I heard - this was all for the first year! ONE YEAR!? No wonder the quality comes to surface! I have to ask @Emmy how many hours on an average day would you spend on design work?
Did you have to type up all the text in that magazine at the end? or were you allowed just to copy and paste the info from the hyperlink and just control the layout and how it looked?
to do the Kanye poster did you make an image trace? or did you physically trace it on your iPad. I'm trying to do a similar poster in my class right now!
your first year graphics work sounded much cooler than mine- the poster thing is a sick idea but like u said i can imagine it gets tedious after a while! loved the video, i subbed :)
I’m majoring in Biology but I’m just a Sophomore in college so I didn’t really get into my major work yet. I really love Photography so I’ve been thinking about going into digital design but I can’t draw
Wow your work is stunning! As someone who can't draw I don't know if choosing a graphic design course is the correct move. I am experienced with adobe photoshop, Lightroom and illustrator etc. My question is would I be able to focus solely on digital art and design and not have to focus on the drawing aspect of the course?
You said you use your ipad, how does that work? Do you just use illustrator on an ipad, and transfer it to your computer to continue working? I never thought about this, but am really intrigued and might want to get one now... Hahaha! Let me know!
have you ever looked unto adobe capture and adobe draw? they're apps that you can draw and take pictures of your work and they transfer and open in your computer
No, not at all, I do design I'm arty but the ones who don't draw, they just trace photos, don't even need to do that much, don't let it stop you, you can work more with photography, patterns etc. Everyone finds their own thing, so please do not let that hold you back!
Itll be easier if you knew how to draw and your job will be more enjoyable because of it but you don't have to in the case that you just need to communicate your ideas on paper since mostly everything is digital in graphic design

not including work at uni, would be at least around 3 hours a day in my spare time spent on design work!
The magazine is really cool!
Did you have to type up all the text in that magazine at the end? or were you allowed just to copy and paste the info from the hyperlink and just control the layout and how it looked?
to do the Kanye poster did you make an image trace? or did you physically trace it on your iPad. I'm trying to do a similar poster in my class right now!
no i drew it from reference!
amazing work!! im starting university in january hopefully my work load is as thorough and interesting as this :-)
your first year graphics work sounded much cooler than mine- the poster thing is a sick idea but like u said i can imagine it gets tedious after a while! loved the video, i subbed :)
very cool to look back on but was a nightmare in the middle of the project hahah !!
I love your hair. Need mine like that Right Now!
really enjoyed this video, which softwares are you using?
You are beautiful, talented, hard working, and your work is amazing. Keep up the great work can’t wait to show my work soon.
Your eyes are very artistic and inspiring.
Hey how do you print your posters? Would be so grateful if u would answer me😱😱😱keep up the good work👍👍👍
please do a tutorial on your vector drawing!
these projects are so fun wtf
You said you use your ipad, how does that work? Do you just use illustrator on an ipad, and transfer it to your computer to continue working? I never thought about this, but am really intrigued and might want to get one now... Hahaha! Let me know!
have you ever looked unto adobe capture and adobe draw? they're apps that you can draw and take pictures of your work and they transfer and open in your computer
i love that napoleon dynamite one! you have some really creative ideas!
I can’t help but notice u can’t stop looking down ahhhh
I love that bee poster
I really liked the ocd poster what was the assignment about that made you produced that design?
a posted a day for 50 days, that weeks theme: order & chaos
Ok, the work is amazing but that MAKEUP?! *OUTSTANDING!*
You have made my entire day 💗 happy new year
Loved the video! You're really talented, keep doing what you're doing.
thank you so much!
Do you have to know how to draw/ have any art skill drawing wise to be a graphic designer?
I will not tell lie
U must be knowing how to draw so that u can put ur imagination on papaer
No, not at all, I do design I'm arty but the ones who don't draw, they just trace photos, don't even need to do that much, don't let it stop you, you can work more with photography, patterns etc. Everyone finds their own thing, so please do not let that hold you back!
Itll be easier if you knew how to draw and your job will be more enjoyable because of it but you don't have to in the case that you just need to communicate your ideas on paper since mostly everything is digital in graphic design
What company did you use to design and print your magazine? I would love to try that!!
Nice illustration work.
I love the map you created with the photo ops so dope.
Love your work!
I did album covers for my final major project at Coventry university 🤙
