@RetroTitan X3 Thanks for the kind words! We've added your suggestion to our list of community ideas :)
@@AngryFun That's a great idea! We'll add it to the list of community ideas. In the meantime, if you'd like to check our other devblogs or talk to devs who write them, we've recent'y added a devlogs channel to our Discord server. Here's the invite link: discordapp.com/invite/RuhjHzZ

I'm a solo indie game dev so i'm everything from coder to 3d modeller.
Nice! Which area do enjoy the most ?
@@AskGamedev well because i'm using the unreal engine 4, blueprint is fun because the experimenting on learning the blueprint system. I learn a lot and could even do blueprint myself.
Same here
@@HikariP I HATE blueprint. It turns logical code into a mess of spaghetti noodles.
Anon Mason I agree. But it has it’s place. Blueprints pair very well with C++.
“Whether you’re making your game from SCRATCH...”
Me, an intellectual: you mean the kid game development software???!
from scratch means from nothing
but i was also confused when i first heard the phrase
Yeah I sometime miss using Scratch
@@yoshiyolo well that will make it easier for me
Lead engineer is pretty important because a good core makes the whole game stable. If a new person adds some weird feature the core should still be stable.
This is an exceptionally high quality video, I was just curious about game development and now I feel like I have a foundational understanding. Well done!
My friends and I are a 4-man team. We all have some experience in at least one of these fields, with me having the most experience. I can do a little bit of everything, and I am the lead programmer. I also am the manager. So, I think my friends and I are all set.
That's awesome! We'd love to check out your game.
How it was?
Hey Guys!, Hope you're doing great! i was a little worried because i am a solo developer but as you guys says in the video the first minutes, i start to get less worried! thanks for an excellent video, it really helps. Hope to hear from you guys soon. Happy New Year!
Happy New Year, Paolo! It's great to hear from you again! Yup, one person can wear all the hats. It's definitely tough, but many have done it, and there's a lot of support online :)
thanks for your great high quality content wow good job !!👍 the only youtube gamedev channel that inlighting us about the process of Game production 👏👏i wonder why haven't you reach 1 milion subscriber yet? such a good work must payed attention to the hole game dev Community which is not done yet but keep up Man😊 you re the top one in the list
Just recently found these videos and they are amazing!!😯 Currently working alone, but if my first indie game sells a decent amount i'l be looking for more game devs to work with, this really helped a lot😎
what is your game?
if you want ill work with you
Nice and great video! Just want to point out something. The 3ds max logo and maya logo are the other way around on 5:00. Let's forget that small detail. Anyway, I thought the animator job is part of artist's job LOL and you cleared it up on 5:49 (I'm like oh sh*t I'm wrong then oh it's not hahaha). A long time ago I've some great idea for making a new game, but the idea go to thin air and I can't remember what that idea about. Next time should write down a nice idea that comes to my mind even though I can't create it (knowledge, time, and other issues). LOL
Just want to say you have great content and great quality video! Keep it up guys!
Ahh, I misread the title. I thought this was gonna be about how to get people on your team.

as someone who wants to make a game as a hobby project I plan on learning most of these over time, I think my biggest problems would be through animation and audio design. Unless I can find some really handy assets that'll streamline these for me.
I loved your video man thanks for the quality information
Another great video,thank you 😀
Thanks Sinnerman! Any suggestions for a future video?
Awesome list. I'm basically all of them at the moment, and will probably be!
Keep it up! Zombie Fighter looks pretty cool :)
Thanks. Just a POC at the moment, and probably won't be a full game, but thanks again
Currently I set up a game dev team and size is 9 including me. Im really lucky to find educated game devs
Where did you find them I’m looking for some
@@diamondwolfpack6 Hey so we are already a full team now, I found them on discord and some on freelance sites

Hi guys! Our first game (Dongo Adventure) was recently released on Steam! The game was produced by me and my brother for 11 months. About the game: The game is 3D Platform style, inspired by the classic platform games (mainly 'Donkey Kong Country 2'), bringing all those challenges and fun of the genre. Check out the trailer and game link on Steam on my Channel. Thanks in advance!
Lookz good! How long per day did u have to work on it?
looks so much like the Donkey Kong Country games. I'll purchase the game right now. I may have questions about getting on steam.. hit me up if you ever need props or art done.
@@fritolaid6805, We worked on the game for 11 months and 6 hours daily.
@@crowstew, Many thanks man!
And I am here making my whole game by myself, I just started yesterday but I had to depend on pre made assets because I did not have a Game designer, Audio designer, and an Artist. I use rpg playground for practicing so no need to make my own assets. Good thing I have experience in story telling which made my game look like a story focused game than a real rpg. Idk I just have to wait and see
Gluck man
Build with pre-fabs or placeholders for concept/prototype, replace assets with your own when you feel it’s right
You guys should make a gamemaker studio 2 pac man tutorial!
just opened this video to see everything I gotta learn before I start developing solo
Nice! What type of game are you going to develop?

You forgot Community Management for online games.
Hey guys, I am 3D artist and essentially, I can make every bit of graphics I need for my game, but, my skills in programming are extremely low.So, what do you think I should do?
A.Try to make it on my own based on tutorials in unity/unreal.
B.Make some assets and try to hire a programmer from my limited budget to at least make a demo.
C.Something else.
Hope you guys see this, thanks for making great content!
MCShvabo Hello, i am currently looking for people to join my team. I am in the very early stages of creating a criminals vs law enforcement game. If you’re interested or want more info text me at 3158716309
As a solo dev:
No coding = less control and less complexity. More speed and no unnecessary setup code
Script = more control and greater scope, less speed
Bootstraps = enhanced control and potentially grand and ultimassive projects. Scope is at least a couple months
Vulkan = you literally have to be making a high-end superproject to even poke this thing with a stick. You’re guaranteed at least 2 years if you’re new
Nice!
What song plays at 10:00 ?
For those that know about game development, should I learn C# for game development? I'm planning on taking a course on C# but I'm not 100% sure if it's necessary.
c# is an excellent language to start your knowledge of game development with. It’s the main language used in Unity - the popular game engine.
You can also use C# in MonoDevelop/MonoGame and Godot. 👍 And C# is good for Xamarin too for apps, but Idk if Xamarin is good for mobile games
@@giannistek1 Godot is sort of iffy when it comes to C#
C++ (a minor amount in most cases - just know the basics) and GDScript are your best friends.
Y u so underated!!!
Do you think the role of a tech art is needed for an indie dev team?
how much should i pay each person per month?
And Finally I created a complete game for Android. I'm going to release it soon. I faced lot more struggles in Art and Audio section as a solo deveolper. Hope my game goes well!!!

So, what’s the best way to go about forming a team? I would like to make a game, but have no idea where to start looking for a team. I have some skills, but I certainly don’t have all of them.
Break Glass For Memes I have the same problem, I’ve tried many times to make a team and never succeeded. I just want teammates ;-; I’m tired of making games alone
I am ready. what do you guys say ...wanna start
I would recommend you to get into a big game making discord. Not only do most of them have a channel where you can ask people to join your team. You can also talk to people and ask them questions. Btw if you want to start your own team it might be smart to join an other team for a time to look how they do the things

Pls make a video on how to start a game dev business......
Thanks for the suggestion Kaushik! Is there anything in particular that you'd like to learn about starting a game dev business?
Ok everything makes sense.
How do you make this video which software do you use
Hi Ashish, we use After Effects and Premiere to make our videos.
@@AskGamedev thanks love your videos
4:49 Indesign ???
Can you tell me what should I do to become a game programmer? Please reply
First realize if number and code is your strength.
I know it has been 2 years, but honestly, school is a good way to learn. While going through school (like a community college or something until you get more serious and go for the BS), keep developing small projects and use the things you learned to make games.
I think you used the wrong logo for 3ds max and maya, didn't you
Is coding going to stay as relevant as it is right now, or are things like visual scripting and code assets making it more and more viable to make games without much coding experience? At least when it comes to 2d games. Worried if my skillset is going to stay relevant.
Hi Kenny, we don't think there's a need to worry. There will always be a need for great programmers :)
Coding will be relevant for the forseeable future. You may think, "There is no need for xxxx language or yyyy language"
But, there is always a need for someone who knows programming well.
you need more attention
looking for a artist to join the team , I'm developing a basic mobile game and all the code is done I just need art(mine isn't very good) . You can get 33% of everything the game makes *This won't be a lot because it is a basic game* but I do want to develop more games in the future so maybe this could be a lasting partnership!
Where is writer?
Game designer
2000€ for Studio Max and Maya per year ?
ARE THESE GUYS CRAZY ?!
Blender FTW.
Nobody uses that until they get into an industry job.
You don't need it. They're relics of an age long gone and kept only to separate elitists. Which is starting to backfire on them.

People earn A LOT more than 2000 bucks... So it's pretty cheap for them

Storyboards and time-line?

Truth is, the majority of indie games are 2D... and *Spine* is the best for animating 2d assets, yet this was not included. #MoreResearchNeeded
Anyone in the Atlanta area wanna team up for small games ?
How can i make a game alone from scratch
Hi Humble Mushroom, you'll need a design, assets, and an engine. If you're new to gamedev, check out this tutorial that we made using Construct3: ua-cam.com/video/dfmQ0AAZ9bA/v-deo.html
@@AskGamedev thank you.
@@redsharp6672 yes YOU can.
audio designer comes before visual artist, oh really? when like 30% of the players play with no sound?
It's a team effort. visual artist make backgrounds and backdrops and so much that goes into a game is unseen or overlooked by the player
Sometimes it's easier for animator (and some artists) to have the audio done first. Artists may get a better feel for characters, and animators may have clearer parameters for timing, especially for things like lipsynching.
No narrative designer will make your game absolute garbage, talking from experience. :) It's the most underrated and important parts of making games.
hearing "we previously made video about..." for 50th time ohh fuck this im out.
Indesign?... :)
