This short scene says a lot of things:
    1. In the car, Tony's friends are being very negative about what their future is. When Tony gets out and walks to the bridge it shows that he has a positive vision and outlook on the future, which is in direct contrast to his friends.
    2. Tony wants a better life for himself and knows that leaving Brooklyn (crossing the bridge) is the only way it is going to happen. Tony loves his family and friends, but knows he must leave them behind for the future he wants.
    3. Tony's friends are clouding his mind. Once Tony gets out the car and away from his negative friends, he is able to focus better and have a clear vision of what it is he wants to do with his life. This is symbolized when Tony sits down on the park bench and shows there is much more tranquility and good to the character of Tony.

They were clearly not his friends if that's attitude they had. But you gotta admit, it was kinda fuck up that he chose to walk away from them at the end of right in the wake a tragedy involving the death of one of them...

I currently am stationed on Staten island with the Army. Trsut me, it's not much better. What's better is to get the hell out of NY altogether!

I think Tony is the only civilized person and his friends are just jerks. I also think Tony would be better off on his own.

Believe it or not this to me is one of the best scenes in movie history! If you are in your mid-late 40's and lived in the New York area when this movie came out, trust me this scene really hits home!

I can't believe the studio left this off the DVD, it's my favorite scene of the movie. For one, it sets up Tony's love for the bridge he talks about later in the movie when he sits on the bench with Stefanie. And as others have mentioned, the scene looks beautiful and the score of How Deep is Your Love behind it simply makes it the best scene of the movie.
I'll be in the club for those who want to petition the studio to include it on the 40th year release of the DVD. LOL

I agree. When Tony tells Stephanie all the statistics about the bridge, the audience felt he only studied that part of it to prove to the more sophisticated Stephanie that he was well-read. This scene proves he had an affinity for the bridge & what it represented. We needed more scenes like this that showed his depth, that he wasn't just some thug who got into fights, mistreated women & danced.

JeNuejien Nue this was a very touching scene. i wish i knew who played How Deep Is Your Love. it sounds beautiful. Tony you can see was a bright kid. when a 40th anniversary edition comes out in 2017 i hope they'll put all the deleted scenes in. there are still more to watch. also the CD.

    • @davidchan9632

i agree. one of my favorite movies. it was a touching scene w/ the beautiful tune of How Deep Is Your Love ? (this track should be released on a 40th anniversary CD w/ extra tracks which were not on it. the new release (LP & CD) has nothing new. also the new DVD release does not include every deleted scene. don't know why. also I've looked @ the new Director's cut DVD which looks similar to the 30th anniversary DVD. we fans are missing out. that's not good. J. Travolta only appears in the special features on the 25th anniversary edition DVD. also that sexy girl walking @ the beginning of the movie was not ever located which Director J. Badham had mentioned. I'm going to see this movie in the theater next month. it's a huge celebration & the DVD should be packed in a box w/ lobby cards, program, etc.

JeNuejien Nue i agree. my favorite scene as well..the best scene that sets up the picture..a sin that this was not in the original release or on DVD..WHAT WAS THE DEAL HERE. Somebody missed this badly in editing this beautiful moment in SNF. Tony the Disco King with a dream.

  • @Azishome
    @Azishome 10 років тому +4

It's nice to see that Tony Manera was more than a 1970s disco air head. Whatever dream there is in the scene, it had to do with the artistic curve of the bridge support cables. Perhaps he dreamed of being an artist, an architect, or a historian. The bridge is more than a way out of Brooklyn. Perhaps he didn't want to leave Brooklyn as much as he wanted to go somewhere else, to do more than sell pain and drop cloths. Good luck, Tony. I hope you are a fat 'n' happy grandpa today.. .

Shucks. They never included this in the DVD as deleted scenes. This is the best deleted scene and they don't include it in the compilation of deleted scenes.

The nostalgia in those Bridge scenes, that 2039m long bridge leading from Brooklyn over to Staten Island, that long bridge dividing Manhattan's Upper New York Bay and Lower New York Bay, also representing a social gap between social classes.. It really took me eight years to realize why exactly Johnny goes there for daydreaming!

This scene is in the PG version of the movie along with the Disco Duck scene where Tony break dances at the disco to it. The PG version has never been released on DVD but AMC will sometimes show the full PG version with both of these scenes as well as the long version of the scene with Tony and Stephanie at the bridge. There is a whole conversation that takes place after the bridge scene where she admits that she likes him but only when they are dancing :)

The DVD contains 3 deleted scenes from the film. This is not one of them. This obviously is an over-the-air or basic cable broadcast of the PG version.

I really wish they would have put this scene in the movie. It shows the innocence on the inside of Tony, when you think he and his friends are just some drugged up, sexist, racist teenagers. It never fails to make me smile right when he does. :)

It was posted on youtube awhile ago from someone who taped it in South America, but then they removed it. I was in shock to see it, because I had no idea these scenes existed.... :D

If I was the writer or the director of Saturday Night Fever, I would make it a 12, not 18 because I hate Disco-Music movies with too much swearing and nude, I find that totally adultish, I used to like it and I used to have lots of DVD versions of it and 1 Blu-Ray but I got rid of them because I think it's the worst Disco-Music movie I have ever seen when I was 12.
