In this Bose SoundLink Mini 2 troubleshooting guide, I would like to help those ones who have problems with their SoundLink Mini 2 speakers.
These steps can help you in case of various problems for example if your speaker does not turn on or if it is not charging.
- The speaker does not turn on when using battery
The most common problem is that the speaker does not turn on.
Surprisingly, in the most cases, it is not caused by a problem but the speaker is designed in this way.
The SoundLink Mini 2 has a so-called battery protection mode, which means if it is disconnected from the AC power and unused for at least 14 days it enters into this mode to preserve battery power.
In this case, you have to connect it to AC power and turn it on to reactivate the speaker, after that you can remove it from the charging cable
- The speaker does not charge or does not turn on when connected to AC power
If the following steps do not help and you still cannot turn the speaker on or it is not charging, then first make sure you are charging it with its own Bose charger.
If it still does not work, then you can try to reboot its internal processor.
You can do this by temporarily putting the speaker into “Ship mode”, this does not erase any settings of the speaker.
You can do it in the following way:
1. Connect the speaker to power.
2. Press and hold the ‘Multi-function’ (three dots) button for 10 seconds.
3. While continuing to hold the ‘Multi-function’ button, unplug the speaker from power.
4. Release the ‘Multi-function’ button.
5. After that connect it to power and charge for at least 1 hour.
- Reset the Bose SoundLink Mini 2
If none of the steps above solved your problem, you can try to set the speaker back to the factory defaults.
These steps erase the settings of the speaker and return the original factory settings.
You can do it in the following way:
1. Power the speaker on.
2. Press and hold the ‘Power’ button for ten seconds.
- Update the speaker
By updating the firmware of the speaker, you can solve several issues and eliminate known software bugs.
You can check my video guide about how to update the Bose SoundLink Mini 2: • How to update the Bose...

Thank you very much! It works for me. My soundlink mini II didn't charge, the battery LED turns on for 2-3s then turns off. So I maintain the central button until AUX lamp turns on then unplug the power.
Now it's charging, youpi!
Thank you so much! I thought mine was broke and was getting ready to throw this away. I love this thing and lucky I found this video.
This video is five years old, I did exactly what you said and now it’s working. Thank you
literally just fished my speaker out the bin!! Reset it and it works!! grateful is an understatement..
1.1K people are experiencing Bose Soundlink Mini 2 power-up problems and 162 have thrown theirs away before discovering this video.
As for me? Mine wouldn't turn on after not being used for a while, even though 80% chargd. I didn't realise about the battery auto-sleep shipping mode after 14 days of inactivity. Now I can relax, knowing mine isn't broken. Excellent video. Thank you Speaker Fanatic.
Thanks for the video. Was panicking thinking my speaker was broken. Now it's working fine. Thanks again 👍
Thank you. Is it OK to keep the speaker always connected to power instead of using the battery? I only use it at home.
Noticed my Bose wasn't charging and got really worried. Watched this video and fixed the problem within an hour (I had to put into "shleep" mode). Thank you so much! I can't imagine doing housework without some jams coming from my speaker! :)
I am glad to hear it helped:-)
Cant understand why people dislike this video this is a perfect way to do things shame on haters
You saved me ! After pressing reset button for 10s charging works again. Thanks man !
Put a donation/patreon link on this video man. I'm sure people will be very happy to pay a few bucks for this great advice.
Thanks dude, I rely on this speaker so much! The multifunction button solution worked perfectly!
Thank you thank you thank you!!!! You definitely fixed mine!!!!
Mine is a brand new unit but bought it on eBay so there's no warranty. I can't thank you enough for helping me.
I tried pressing the menu button for 10 seconds method but I released the button before unplugging the charging cable by accident (was watching you video and doing at the same time) but as soon as I released the button, charging light started to blink. Now it's charged to 100%!!!
Was about to say my speaker was a goner! Great video, thank you
Vinnie Bisson Super. I'm glad that I could help:-)
Awesome. I was having same issue last of the speaker only charging for a few seconds. Held multifunction button….FIXED! Thanks
None of these are fixing my speaker. It continues to blink red. When resetting using the multifunction button, the bluetooth logo and AUX light does not light up. Can't turn my speaker on at all when plugged into a power source.
Second method helped me too, thank you sir!
So helpful! I was about to give up on this damn thing. I’m glad I came across your video first!
Man, this video has helped me out in the past but now my Soundlink seems totally screwed! When I plug the power cord into the speaker the "charging up" sound plays, immediately followed by the "unplugged" sound - so in other words, for a brief moment it recognises there's a power cable in there, but won't actually charge. Have tried all these steps and nothing has fixed it, and this is already after I'd sent it to Bose for repairs on an earlier occasion! Maybe time to invest in a new one.
This worked for me, thank you for posting!
The processor reset worked! Thanks
The processor reset worked for me! Thanks!
With many electronics and chargers cross compatible, had no idea Bose would be the exception. Anyways, thank you! I used its dedicated cord and adapter and the speaker seems to be charging just fine.
Thank you, fixed my charging problem!
Second is the solution for me! Thanks so very much!!!!
You're the best man!!! I was worried that i had to send for repairs or buy another one.
Hi, can you please help me, my battery is 20% and when I plug it in, an orange light flashes and a voice tells me that the battery is 20%. There is a bleep with the end note up, but then, after about 2-3 seconds, the light turns red, the bleep has a tone sounding down, as if if you disconnected the speaker and the red light goes off😢
I tried all methods, different chargers, the 10 seconds button hold, as suggested here, but the problem persists.... Any idea what to do please? Many thanks.
Thanks for posting this. I was able to get my BOSE Mini II charging again the second procedure.
IF YOUR HERE DO THE 2ND STEP! IT SAVED MY SPEAKER!! TY
hello! great video! I've done everything you say, but red light continues to blink. Bad battery?
Thank you! The 10 second reset seemed to work for me. Phew!
Super:-)
Thanks for this, it has solved my charging issue! 👍
Great, I'm glad it helped 👍

Excellent guide - worked straight away. Thanks very much
Hi. My speaker still won’t charge. Even after the method mentioned in video. When I plug it, a yellow light flashes and that’s it. I even left it to charge for 48hrs. Should just get a new battery instead? Or
Thanks, bro you save my bose speaker!!!! and you gained a new subscriber
Thank you SO much! This worked!!
good instructions, learned a lot, yet did not fix the solid red light. Briefly flashes the yellow light when connecting to power - and the stays on solid red - and only consumes 22mA from a charger much stronger. --> not charging the battery
Yes v good advice here. Tried all the tips in the video which did not work until i did the last one (update software) all good now
Thank you!! Perfect simple video that is accurate.
Thank you 🙏 the first step worked. You are life saver!
Yes the second step worked thanks man!!!
This was very helpful. Thanks for the tip!
Super, I'm glad that it helped:-)
First step worked for me ! Thank you !
Thank you. mine stopped charging from both cradle and cable and multi function reset did the trick!
but if this is not tuning on how can I turn on to reset to factory settings?
Hello. I hope you can help me. The power light on my SoundLinkMini only flashes red, but does not charge the battery.
The reset on the website did not work.
What I can do ?
Thanks in advance.
Worked a treat, thanks fella
The download of the latest software worked for me thanks.
wow now charging. thanks man
Awesome! Fixed my charging issue!
Thank you so much for this mine wasn't charging after the latest update.......

Do you know if this speaker can work without battery, and use it plugged?
Thank you for sharing,! My speaker is charging now...😁
Perfect fixed my problems thanks!!
Saved my day thank you
Thank you. I thought it was broken. Thanks a lot. Xxxxxxxxxx
Brilliant. Thank you.
Life saver! Thank you😊
Pls help, I tried several times, to no avail the speaker did not charge. For updater, it does not give any dialog box for update as I have already updated last year. Thank you in advance.
Thank you so much it worked really fast 👏👏👏
Thanks; very helpful.
If it doesnt work, try to use bose update tool to check if its updated. If it is and still not working, press a,d,v arrow up, arrow down, which will put it into troubleshooting mode, try to re-update to latest update. That solved the no charging red light flashing problem for me.
Thank you! It worked!!!
So my Bose sound link Mini 2 I got back in like 2015!
It wasn’t charging, the charge light would come on, and it would flash orange and still turn on.
And then the battery would beep and glow red and the charging light would go red then shut off.
I fixed the charging issue by charging it on the dock while also charging it on the pad? :0
I did the updates and everything prior on my computer and plugged it in and updated but the charge still wouldn’t hold.
I was troubleshooting, tried charging with the micro usb or on the charging pad, doing both at the same time worked
Gud day. Can u help me with my bose soundLink color 1..it wont turn on and when i charge it, a yellow light will appear in the battery icon.. It wont turn green even f i charged it for about an hour... And still it wont turn on
You beautiful bastard, this fixed my speaker. Thank you so much.
Hey, I'm glad that I could help:-)
Thank you so much. Solved my problem)
My case sir the mute bottom and the aux bottom are flashing and no music
Thanks for the video. I thought it was broken!
Thank you so much for this helpful guide. Got my speaker back to normal within minutes, after weeks of not being able to use it !!
Thanks bro, awesome
It works. Thank you
Thank you so much sir 👍
what about red flashing light? None of this helped.
I am sorry to hear that. Have you tried also the software update?
Speaker Fanatic I did but the speaker is not recognized by the computer. The red light is flashing only when connected to AC.
I see. I would try to dock the speaker into the cradle and connect the cradle and the PC together via USB and check if this way the updater recognize it.
Yesterday my bose went down too. Red is flashing, but nothing solved problem. After holding fuction button red battery icon goes white like it should, but after reset battery blink red again.
Does the updater recognize your speaker?
I noticed I was trying to turn this speaker on, wouldn’t go on. I was pushing holding to long that didn’t work, tried pushing on letting go fast no wouldn’t work. So I pushed harder let go fast speaker came on so I guess I wasn’t pushing hard enough.
Its worl for me. Thanks !
Hey, i did all the steps and the speaker still won´t turn on properly. When i plug it in a yellow light shows up for a second and then turns off. After a couple of seconds a sound is heard and then it just turns off. Can someone help me solve this? When i plug it in and press the power button at a certain point i can hear the speaker say ready to pair. Then it just shutts off and there is no light at all. The speaker has been loading for hours now so that can´t be the problem.
Would apreccciate some help!
thanks my friend
*ADVICE If your having trouble connecting your device to the update installer and it seems to not be doing anything, switch browsers. I use Brave and thought it just wouldn't work, reopened in Microsoft Edge and the update worked fine.
Hello!
I tried everything but my bose is always flashing red. Any advice?
Thank u !
Thank You!!
Nothing happening on my speaker only orange light flashes when press and hold menu buttons thanks
Mine wouldn’t turn on at all ..holding multi button would not have any effect. Run firmware updater from boss site first computer wouldn’t do it but second did and it uploaded new firmware and now speaker works
Super, I'm glad it works.
please can you post a link to that information. I have been to the site but didn't see the device on their main page. Many thanks
You didn’t mention the red flashing light. My unit can’t get past the red flashing light no matter what I do.
Thank you, your recommendation helped me to resolve the problem, much appreciate it.
It's odd because when I plug in my speaker to the outlet it's flashes the yellow light and the sound that it's charging, then 2 seconds later the light turns back to red
luis medellin same thing is happening to me
Garrett actually I did, I had to connect it to a PC or laptop and reset the whole bose. It was a life saver!
@@oliviamoua9336 And how did you reset the hole ?? Thanks!
None of these worked. Appreciate it
Gracias!
OMG I was scared to hell!!! Thank you 4 help.
Learned that if you DOWNGRADE the firmware it fixes the issue!!
Super, I am glad to hear that!
@@SpeakerFanatic how do you downgrade it? I've tried with the website but when I clicked on "apply changes" it says that the update can't start because the battery level is too low... :C heeeelp
I tried putting it in ship mode but it hasn’t fixed anything
