I'm a couple videos in now from your content and tutorials for GIMP and you have me SOLD. You make learning fun and easy. Before your channel, i downloaded GIMP and immediately gave up. The interface was overwhelming (since i have no experience in this line of work at all) and i was just completely lost... Thanks to you, I've returned after a year or so and i actually enjoy following along with your steps. Thank you once again!
Excellent video! I'm new to GIMP and was wondering about the three panel thing. I learned something that I really needed in the first 30 seconds of the video and it's not even what the video is about. You sir, are a rock star!
Nick u dont disappoint as usual. i tried doing it without following the tutorial at first to challenge myself i just used mostly duplicate, move and crop tool. couldn't get the black effect in d middle. it came out ok. but following your tutorial came out perfect. thanks u rock
These tutorials have come in very handy for me - especially when putting together video thumbnails. Quick question though, does the text have to be white or would other colors work as well?
Very cool. I guess you are not working on Windows, as the icons in Gimp on the latest version are crap and are not that intuitive as they are on your version. If you're using windows, how did you get those clearer toolbox icons?
With second try I could do it. Great! But as pressing "delete" (entfernen [Entf] in German) on my keyboard didn't work I selected "delete" with right klick on the context menu.
Alhamdulillah, cool tutorial graphic design, it's make me more confident to move from "closed source crack" to "OSS" like inkscape and GIMP and find this tutorial make me safety :). I want to ask you, can i download this video tutorial from my PC? I want to learn more about inkscape and GIMP and then i want to share this video and teach what i get from your tutorial to my friend's in my collage. Thanks before
Hi Nick, how do you move in the layer during the editing process? So you don't click the "Move-Tool" and move the whole layer, it seems to me you're using a hotkey for that, to move the picture while you are zoomed in.
If you meant scrolling a part of the image into view whilst zoomed in, Nick mentioned that he used the middle mouse button (clicking on the mouse wheel)
Ive tried this a couple of times now but each time I get to the end to delete the shadow from the bottom part of the screen it does nothing, cant work out what im doing wrong
Hey Nick! Quick question, if you could help. Do you have any idea why my font drags if i move some text?? If type a word then move it, sometimes a piece of one of the letters drags behind. It's really weird and annoying. I have to save, close, re-open for it to go away, but it happens again. Any help would be awesome and much appreciated!! Thanks!
It’s quite easy in Inkscape -- maybe even easier than in Gimp. Write text and select it, Path - Object to Path (Ctrl+Shift+C) Object - Ungroup (Ctrl+Shift+G) Path - Union (Ctrl++) Edit - Duplicate (Ctrl+D) draw rectangle (F4) in front of half of the text, duplicate it Select one rectangle and one text object and Path - Intersection (Ctrl+*) Select the remaining rectangle and the other text object and Path - Difference (Ctrl+-) Move one of the text objects horizontally to create the shift (with the mouse hold ctrl or use the arrow keys on the keyboard not to shift it vertically) Now for the shadow: draw a rectangle (F4) slightly wider than the text objects and high enough to contain the shadow draw a black ellipse (F5) half over the lower part of the rectangle to create the main shape of the shadow in the fill and stroke menu (Shift+Ctrl+F) set Blur to about 6 and Opacity to 50% (or what you like) select rectangle and put it in front of the shadow (Object-Raise to Top ... or press pos1 on the keyboard) select both the rectangle and the shadow ellipse and Object - Clip - Set select both the now clipped shadow object and the upper text object in the Align and Distribute menu (Shift+Ctrl+A) with "Relative to:" "Last selected" chosen, first click the symbol for "Center on vertical axis" and with both objects still selected "Align bottom edges" Select everything (Ctrl+A), click with the select tool to show the rotation handles and rotate everything, so the text is slightly inclined like in Nick’s image. Voilà :-)
Hello, Brother Pls help urgent!!! , I've seen your RGB CMYK color video .... I use Inkscape to create my designs and then convert into my office Adobe Illustrator now my boss want CMYK color. Hi, Nick, thanks for the lessons. Could you make tutorial vector portrait in GTA style or a similar effect, in Inkscape or Gravit Designer, if possible. Thanks again :)
Hey, Nick. Nicely done!
In the path tab you can just right click on the path and select "selection from path".
Nice, thanks for the tip.

Hi Nick! Awesome tutorial! :) Quick question: how do you get that orange color when you select an item (tool, layer, menu item etc)?

Hello, helpful tutorial as always, I was wondering if you can teach something about editing videos in blender.
Very cool. I guess you are not working on Windows, as the icons in Gimp on the latest version are crap and are not that intuitive as they are on your version. If you're using windows, how did you get those clearer toolbox icons?

Are you working on a Apple device? In different videos I think he pointed out that DEL, or Entf in your case, does not work on Apple devices.
My Paths tool would not go away, I had to move it out of the picture. Apart from that, it worked out! Thanks.

Hey Nick!
Quick question, if you could help.
Do you have any idea why my font drags if i move some text?? If type a word then move it, sometimes a piece of one of the letters drags behind. It's really weird and annoying. I have to save, close, re-open for it to go away, but it happens again.

It actually happens moving anything. Please helllppp!! DX
sorry but I am not getting that blueish tint while blending. I'm getting black to red. what i'm doing wrong?
I followed every step.
Would there be a similar process in inkscape?
It’s quite easy in Inkscape -- maybe even easier than in Gimp.
Write text and select it,
Path - Object to Path (Ctrl+Shift+C)
Object - Ungroup (Ctrl+Shift+G)
Path - Union (Ctrl++)
Edit - Duplicate (Ctrl+D)
draw rectangle (F4) in front of half of the text, duplicate it
Select one rectangle and one text object and Path - Intersection (Ctrl+*)
Select the remaining rectangle and the other text object and Path - Difference (Ctrl+-)
Move one of the text objects horizontally to create the shift (with the mouse hold ctrl or use the arrow keys on the keyboard not to shift it vertically)
Now for the shadow:
draw a rectangle (F4) slightly wider than the text objects and high enough to contain the shadow
draw a black ellipse (F5) half over the lower part of the rectangle to create the main shape of the shadow
in the fill and stroke menu (Shift+Ctrl+F) set Blur to about 6 and Opacity to 50% (or what you like)
select rectangle and put it in front of the shadow (Object-Raise to Top ... or press pos1 on the keyboard)
select both the rectangle and the shadow ellipse and Object - Clip - Set
select both the now clipped shadow object and the upper text object
in the Align and Distribute menu (Shift+Ctrl+A) with "Relative to:" "Last selected" chosen, first click the symbol for "Center on vertical axis" and with both objects still selected "Align bottom edges"
Select everything (Ctrl+A), click with the select tool to show the rotation handles and rotate everything, so the text is slightly inclined like in Nick’s image.
Voilà :-)
Could you do video how to do animated nickname :/ i mean like bouncing from left to right
excellent ! ;)
your are monster!!!!!!Bravo
Please make a tutorial for a youtube banner. Would be nice
See you
I already did an Inkscape tutorial about that but I plan to do one for GIMP as well pretty soon
Okay because I only got Gimp... By the way nice tutorial
xPerfect inkscape is free. You may find it just as enjoyable.
Get inkscape. it's totally free!

That would be an awesome tutorial idea, but I'm not positive I could make that work. I'll look into it.
👍👍👍🙏
I tried making this and following on, but I fucked it up. Nice tut, tho!
