Worked in Rotherham about two years ago! I'm glad you come across this. Me and the lads saw it and played headers and volleys on the pitch for a couple of hours. The nets were still up! Quality memories
I went to a Rotherham game the other week ,was surprised the old ground was still standing and close to the new one and also the saying `this used to be a pub ` very common term in England
Lived a few miles from here (stone's throw from Hillsborough stadium) and whenever I drove through this part of Rotherham (Or the other side of the M1 in Sheffield) I was just sad. The area is so run down it is tragic, especially as the people of South Yorkshire (like the guy showing you round) are the absolute salt of the earth. Engaging, funny, open and extremely friendly. That said, there are some absolutely gorgeous areas in Rotherham as well and I'm sure the cheap land price helped Rotherham build their delightful new ground. Both the New York and the Donny Keepmoat are jewels in South Yorkshire's rich footballing crown. If you are still in the area, do check Sandygate Road, Hallam FC's ground. Used to love catching a game there, such a charming little ground.
I miss these old grounds. Going on away days around the north, Millmoor, Saltergate, Feethams, Gigg Lane. If the clubs don't go the stadiums do. Sad times.
The guy that owned the scrapyard was the club chairman for a few years and tried to run the club into the ground so he could expand his scrapyard. He took an expensive loan out that the club couldn't afford to develop that newer stand at Millmoor and it nearly caused the club to go bust. Thankfully the guy who was chairman of ASD Lighting and some other local businesspeople stepped in at the last minute to rescue the club. Booth basically made the club homeless and they had to play at Don Valley athletics stadium in Sheffield for a bit. The ground is called New York Stadium as the foundry you mentioned made all the iron street furniture for New York back in the day.
A depressingly familiar story. I can't understand how people like that are allowed to own football clubs. My club, Swindon, almost went out of business last summer due to the dodgy dealings of Lee Power but we are now under decent ownership. Glad to see Rotherham surviving and thriving.
I so much wanted you to find the scrap yard guy and get inside millmoor. I only went once, rovrum v wednesday, and what an amazing sight it is on the inside. You can keep your fancy modern stadiums for me, I love the old stadiums with character.
Millmore was used in a footbal hooligan film called ID . Millmore lane was used as lots of battles went on there . As a Blade I’ve been to Millmore meany time and had lots of trouble from the Millers . Coming out you had walk under the Rotherham fans which wasn’t fun as we got lots of stuff ( piss mainly) thrown on us
Thanks for visiting my club. Such a shame you weren't allowed into the NYS. If you'd like to come on a match day hit me up, I'll get you a ticket. Your content is amazing, keep it up Sam.
The football film “ID” with Reece Dinsdale was partly filmed in and around Rotherham. Millmoor Lane and Millmoor ground were also used as filming locations 👍

Looks like you visited on Wednesday. I was there for a company safety day and that would have been one of the 'events' that prevented your stadium tour. It was my first time there and it is an impressive stadium. if you had got there at 11am you could have spoken to Clinton Morrison who was there with the Papa Trophy, would have made a nice interview.
I gather there's perhaps an even more interesting story behind what happened at Millmoor but perhaps not public outside of anecdotal accounts - the relatively modern looking stand structure to the right was never actually finished or used and was in that state for several years before they actually moved. I actually went to the friendly at the new stadium you mentioned as a Barnsley fan, I can't believe that was almost 10 years ago.
I can’t believe Millmoor is still standing I never realised. As nice as Rotherham’s new stadium is, I would of preferred a stadium tour around the characteristic Millmoor Stadium. I’m a Walsall fan and was young when we moved into Bescot Stadium from Fellows Park. My dad even to this day says that the Bescot or (Banks’s as it is now) atmosphere was nothing compared to Fellows Park. Great video, really enjoyed it!
Loving the vids Sam keep up the good work. Road to 100k mate. I’ve done Rotherham away visiting 3 stadiums in the progress Millmoor, Don valley stadium and The New York Stadium.

I went there watching Newcastle in The FA Cup in the early 90's. Loads of mags who couldn't get tickets were stood on that bridge trying to get a view of the match.
Millmoor has hosted top flight action. The local rugby club went on a remarkable march up the divisions all the way to Rugby Premiership, seven promotions, and played home matches there.
Story I heard about it from friends who are Rotherham fans is that the owner of the scrapyard owned the ground and wanted to charge them more money to us it. So Rotherham United wasnt having it so they moved and now he's left with no one using it. Apart from a Sunday league side and doesn't get any money for it. Shame as it was a decent little ground but their new one is good for the size of Rotherham United. Good video
12:10 "Villa were so good across the 60s and 70s". So good, in fact, that they were relegated to the third tier in 1970 where they spent two seasons. Apart from that, another good, solid video, mate.
Could do St. Helens - traditionally a Rugby town but the football team have been everywhere in the local area ground wise and Bert Trautmann who broke his neck in an FA Cup Final for City played here as a POW. I believe the POW camp can still be marked out on maps in the neighbouring town of Ashton-in-Makerrfield. St. Helens Women were also very famous back in the day and they were covered by the National Football Museum a few years ago in an exhibition.
used to love going to games here, had season tickets with my best mate n his dad... great memories, when we went to don valley the atmosphere suffered so bad, glad that place is demolished now lol
I was 4 years old walking into this stadium, the Tivoli stand. it got me hooked, the best stadium I’ve ever been too, I’m 26 now. I love the New York stadium but its nothing compared to millmoor
For a 4 year old child late 90s it was something else. for me the best era of football I’ve seen it’s where I fell in love with the game. Maybe worded it wrong when i said the best stadium I’ve been too for looks and capacity but the atmosphere was unreal
Was the old stadium designed by Archie Leach? Quite a treat to see both the old ground and the new one. Many old grounds are lost to redevelopment. All that remains of Colchester United's old Layer Road ground is a plynth marking the location of the centre spot. Rotherham have yoyoed between League 1 and the Championship in recent years; I wonder how the fans feel about that. I live in Norwich and many fans are fed up with the euphoria of promotion and then sinking like a stone in the PL. Enjoyable content, thanks very much.
I’m a Miller from across the pond, but i got the chance to visit for the first game of this season! I went into the store and got some goodies, but i completely missed the reception area. Now i wish i had gone in there and see the Papa Johns trophy in person! 😫
Brilliant video. I know this might be of the subject. It is a shame you could not see the old odean cinema in Bradford a few years ago it was a old abandoned building with plenty of history now having a makeover. You would have enjoyed looking at that old cinema building.
I was there in 81-82 Chelsea visited and Rotherham won 6-0 lol. I was at the next home game v Newcastle 2-1 to chelsea too. Went down on a coach to Peterboro, then onto Watford got underground. I remember fighting after the game, police officer thrown off a horse but i was only a kid then.....CFC.
Go and visit Hillsborough, full of history as Sheffield Wednesday have been in all of the Divisions including the Premiership, played in Europe as well, so yes go give it a visit and you won't be disappointed.
I remember going to the old ground back in the day we were in the home end but we got escorted out of their end by the time we got to the away end we were 2.0 down and went on to loose 6.0. But they were fun days I like thousands of old school fans would give anything to go back to fact
Come to Wales on Saturday for the Wrexham v Stockport + Wrexham have great history such as 3rd oldest professional club in the world, oldest football international stadium and the atmosphere will be amazing for non league
Good video 👍 The film I/D was partly filmed here, Reece Dinsdale. I actually saw Rotherham United win 4-1 at Stamford Bridge, SW6, back in 1982. The crowd was only 6,000. Incredible. Emlyn Hughes was manager. In fact, the Millers beat Chelsea 6-1 that same season, at Millmoor. BTW, I support Chelsea FC 😠
As a Shrewsbury fan, Rotherham, beat us in the semi final of the League Cup in 1961, beat us at Wembley in 1996 in the EFL Shield/trophy and in the League One Playoff final a few years ago. We did beat them 3-0 at Rotherham a couple of weeks ago. Good trip for you the site of Shrewsbury's old Gay Meadow(still a wall and a plaque) and Montgomery Waters Meadow I hope soon. Maybe take a trip to Wolves, Telford, Crewe and Wrexham as well. All can be done in a few hours easy👍🏻.
What a nice guy you are Mr Footy Adventures, wish you every success with your channel. You do remind me a bit of the character from The Fast Show.....the one that says "Brilliant" a lot :) But thats not a criticism, your enthusiasm is infectious, and you know your stuff
couple of interesting facts about Rotherham united, they had the first ever black player to play professional football. They also played at the Don Valley stadium that was built for the Sheffield student Olympic games between moving from Millmoor to the the NY stadium.
Guest and Chrimes was a massive employer in Rotherham . It was a brass foundry and it was them that invented and patented the cock stop water valve. Because of this they had orders from all over the world. One massive customer was NY USA where a lot of fire hydrants and valves were made by Guest and Chrimes. I keep an eye out for any when I get in to NY but it’s not that often and I’ve not spotted one yet. This is also why that area of Rotherham was called New York.
Can you cover in Scotland east Fife old ground Vs new ground if haven't already...n great vid of Rotherham United I'm a casual neutral fan at times when my mate got a spare ticket for New York stadium....n yes that function room at millmoor would be a nightclub Friday m Saturdays n pay 10 pounds for unlimited drinks all night... good times there....was a rumour years ago millmoor was gonna change to a dog track but nothing was done....but glad they haven't knocked it down so can see how far Rotherham has been to now..,..if you search on UA-cam there some vids where some lads sneaked into milmoor n filmed the ground and changing rooms
if I have got this right, that the owner of the scrapyard owns the old stadium, and when the new chairman took over at Rotherham he wanted to charge them extortionate rent. Rotherham then played in Sheffield at the now closed Don Valley Stadium for a few years before moving back to the town into the New York Stadium. the old ground at millmoor is still there because the new stand is owned by the football league and also the owner of the scrapyard is not allowed to redevelop the ground. I believe Sunday league football is still played at Millmoor, but the stadium itself and the stands are in quite a state of disrepair.
also I remember as a Wednesday fan there was a save Rotherham United fund at Hillsborough when they was having problems with the owner of the scrap yard even tho Wednesday was also in huge financial problems at the time. South Yorkshire has a sort of togetherness not found anywhere else in England .. Wednesday are seen as the big club in the area even tho i would say Sheffield United have been more successful over the last 20 years ... we are still the scalp they all want due to our history it's very very tribal and unique
A real shame you couldn't get in. Also a shame the bloke you spoke to had very little real knowledge of the ground as it was when in use. 14 years since its fina game though, and still there. Love the place but couldn't swap it back for what we have now
There’s some kind of legal thing that states the land can’t be used for anything other than sporting events. Basically the family that own the land thought they had the club over a barrel and that we would pay whatever they wanted in rent but when our new chairman took over he refused to pay it which is why we went to Don Valley until the new stadium was built. Now they’re stuck with the land that they’re not allowed to do anything with for about another 100 years

You should check out Sutton. Looks like a great little community club and their first season ever in the football league and not doing too bad either!
See you sunday at wembley and may the best team win 🏆 👍 👏
might be worth a visit to Sheffield FC, The worlds first football club.
Really interesting, thanks. I’ll watch more of your stuff. Love your enthusiasm.
I love seeing your excitement in your eyes dying to get in the old stadium! Keep it up bro your vids are amazing! WATP 🇬🇧
Best have a tetnus shot first though ,with all that rust!
Abandoned stadiums are much better with gloomy weather. Great video 👏
I remember going to the old ground back in the day we were in the home end but we got escorted out of their end by the time we got to the away end we were 2.0 down and went on to loose 6.0. But they were fun days I like thousands of old school fans would give anything to go back to fact
They filmed the hooligan movie I.D in that ground, also had the floodlights from bramall lane which were from the first ever floodlit game
Come to Wales on Saturday for the Wrexham v Stockport + Wrexham have great history such as 3rd oldest professional club in the world, oldest football international stadium and the atmosphere will be amazing for non league
that narrow alley leading t scrap yard was away end entrance
Ha ha... See my comment
Got to go to York's Bootham Crescent before it gets knocked down totally. See the new ground too, very fancy
Great vid of my club 👏🏻 Hopefully you’ll come back one day to watch a game.
Great vid, love seeing old grounds!. Sound local lad too!
Alley leads to the away end "The Railway End" - the kop was Tivoli
It is great to see all of the abandoned stadiums .
If you're back in the North East then West Auckland Town and Bishop Auckland and in Lincolnshire, Boston United, who recently move to a new stadium.
Nice one Sam... Appreciate It from South Africa 🇿🇦
couple of interesting facts about Rotherham united, they had the first ever black player to play professional football. They also played at the Don Valley stadium that was built for the Sheffield student Olympic games between moving from Millmoor to the the NY stadium.
Great video as always, get yourself to Bramall Lane soon😁
Beautiful Sunny Down Town Bramall Lane ⚔️👍
Millmoor was my first ever away ground, saw Wimbledon lose against The Millers....
Brilliant. I used to be a season ticket holder there and a gate man too for a bit. Happy memories

Loving the videos. If ya still doing Yorkshire Clubs ya could do Barnsley, Doncaster & some Non-League Clubs too
My grandad grew up with the chuckle brothers and new them
also I remember as a Wednesday fan there was a save Rotherham United fund at Hillsborough when they was having problems with the owner of the scrap yard even tho Wednesday was also in huge financial problems at the time.
Love the place but couldn't swap it back for what we have now
Went there with Swindon a couple of times yet to visit the new ground. Again surprised it hasn't been developed yet.
Now they’re stuck with the land that they’re not allowed to do anything with for about another 100 years
@@wrighty7769 brilliant well done the football club ! The new ground looks pretty awesome can't wait to visit next time we play you.
Amazing UA-camr great at wat u do mate keep the content coming 👏
in the late 60s or early 70s i remember rotherham fans winning the " kop choir " competition !
if u ever come to accrington, ican take u to peel park where their first ground was, and see about getting u access to the site as itss now my sons primary school, make a cool story to how one of the oldest teams in the worlds first ground is used by school kids today to play on
I remember Tivoli bar inside 10er to get in then all drinks free
(at night not during games!)
never seen such little leg room in the away end
Been here a few times. Saw one of the great games here when Barnsley beat Rotherham 4-2. Emlyn Hughes was Rotherham's manager and Norman Hunter managed Barnsley.
Can you go to the two sheffield clubs and show us the history of the rivalry
I’m a Luton Town supporter living in New Zealand and so enjoy your video. We hope to move into our new ground in Luton in 2026
Get yourself to the Scarborough. New ground and old, derelict ground (behind a supermarket) on the same road, hundreds of metres apart.
Another great Yorkshire Post, Town play them soon, we've not got a good recent record against ,first saw their shirt on the great League of Gentlemen, on a character called Charlie Hull 💙⚪
That was a top video again been to the old place with Blackpool great away day
