Thank you so much for putting the spotlight on the J-League. Considering that it’s still a relatively young league, I think it has tremendous potential to grow on the global stage.
I’d say the J-League has arguably the best standard of football in Asia. Very technical. Lots of long passing sequences. Would be in the top 10 leagues in the world for quality too, up there with leagues in the Netherlands Belgium & Portugal
@Tanaka How is football “not that popular” when it’s actually Japan’s second-favorite Western sport? (Only behind baseball of course). It’s just a curious question since many Japanese players play for various European clubs these days as well.
@Tanaka Ah okay, that make sense that most Japanese prefer watching the European leagues than J. League (including the lower divisions). Your earlier comment sounded like you said football is “not that popular overall” in Japan. My apologies for being confused.
Kashiwa Reysol fan here, I was surprised that you came to watch the game vs Yokohama FC, because I was in the stand :D We lost 1-0 that game, And I was shocked when Ogawa (right now at NEC in the Dutch league) scored the PK, but our fans was not looking down, but cheered until the end. Thank you for mentioning Hosoya's name, as I can see him in Europe in the near future. Hope you come to Hitachidai again, and cheer for us again :)
I am a Kashima Antlers supporter. The second point is Chinen's goal. Chinen transferred from rival team Kawasaki this year in search of an opportunity to play. Midway through the season, he had been on the bench due to system changes, but he made it to the finish line for the first time in a long time. That made the goal performance crazy.
Mine too. Japan is doing something right in its development of players for such an endless stream of quality talent. The games are very entertaining too

How wonderful to have great soccer fans like you here! Thank you for sharing the 30th-anniversary J-League games and your experiences in Japan to the world. I went to the Gamba Osaka vs Yokohama FM game about 3 weeks ago, it was a terrific atmosphere. One thing I loved was at full time all the players who finished the game line-up in the centre circle and bow to the fans in appreciation of their support, it happens at every game, it's a pity we don't do it in England. I just remembered, at the end of the Gamba vs Yokohama game I went to, there was a scuffle between Gamba's coach and a supporter, the gamba fans were very unhappy that they'd lost 2-0 at home and were bottom of the table, punches were thrown.

I've been studying abroad here in Tokyo since september, and knew just a little about the JLeague, and made it a goal of mine to see every team play live before I leave the country. Something you learn very quickly is just how passionate the fans are. Prematch, during, and postmatch, the energy I've felt around Japanese stadiums is unreal. It's a shame you didn't get to see an Urawa Red Diamonds game during your trip here. It's a widely known statement throughout the league that the team has the best fans in the league. They're the team I support (and who sent Nagoya's 77, Kasper Junker on loan to Nagoya) and the atmosphere in Saitama Stadium is one of the best I've ever experienced. Been trying to go to a Kashiwa game myself, but the tickets are incredibly hard to come by! Jealous you got to get to a game before I have. The soccer culture here is incredible, and I will dearly miss it when I go back to America!
I’ve been living in Kashima for almost a year now and I love how almost everyone in the city including me get to wear an Antlers jersey to work on matchdays and on Fridays before a Saturday home game

Superb content, I'm going to have to start following the J League now! The history of some of the league's most recognised players and the fanbases is fascinating.
According to Michal Mikic, a Croatian player who played for Hiroshima, the club I support, the J-League was perfectly run, salaries were paid correctly and there was no corruption. On the other hand, major differences exist with other major Asian leagues. Foreign investment is regulated and financial fair play is strictly enforced, resulting in a level of competition that is top in Asia, but is outstripped by clubs in China and the Middle East in terms of financial strength. There is no oil money here, and the lack of overwhelmingly well-funded clubs means that the race for the championship is unpredictable every year. In Europe, the image is similar to the 'Bundesliga without Bayern'.
Have been watching J League since the first year! Thanks for showcasing the best Asian league in your video. Kawasaki is always my love. Hope see you again soon
Thanks for coming and sharing our J-league man! I wanted you to experience food in the stadium, they are not just simple hotdogs, every team is really organizing various food trucks and I would say that is marvelous! Some of the fans are coming to the lunch, not watching the game sometimes haha

Japanese Football Culture is surely amazing and I have no words to describe how awesome the fans were especially the cheers. Even one of the stadiums is special too.
For sure. Unreal!
japanese people in general are cultured tbh
Urawa Reds is the most radical cheering team in Asia. In Japan, I often get into fights with supporters of opposing teams. The support is also very enthusiastic, spending money.
I was lucky to see a Urawa Red Diamonds match a few years ago and the atmosphere is incredible
Please come to see the Urawa game again!
@@JOKER-ij2cq I'm going to watch a Levian Cup match if I'm lucky
Never thought of Japan as a big footballing nation but this was wild. Adding this to the bucket list for sure.
This is great. Personally i like that you showcase the different fanculture, ie. here how the players go to the fans before the match for example.
that striker yuma suzuki had a great spell in belgium last time he went abroad, was the league's top scorer if i remember correctly. he went back to japan for some reason but he can totally make it in europe and i reckon he could start for leeds no problem
He come back to Japan because he wants to take a title for KASHIMA ANTLERS!
They have to sent 1 foreigner on loan, but yeah, Junker is better than Linssen or Schalk, those 2 almost never score.
Japan doing big things in matchday experiences by the looks of it. Massive respect to the J League and the good people of Japan.
I’ve been living in Kashima for almost a year now and I love how almost everyone in the city including me get to wear an Antlers jersey to work on matchdays and on Fridays before a Saturday home game
Great video ... loved the coverage of the great fan sections and food options outside the stadiums. I've added J-League to my bucket list of soccer experiences.
My favorite J-League club is my family's hometown Hokkaido Consadole Sapporo! So happy that they've finally been broadcasting the games on their UA-cam page.
this is why i love football, it always has the best atmosphere and unites people and to show their support for their favourite team
What amazing fans and great stadiums and you couldn’t even see any police And very few Stewart in the ground
I would love to visit Japan, the people seem very nice and friendly and calm.
What a video. What a guy 👊🏼 Congrats on all your achievement this year mate!! 🎉

Please do japanese football more their football culture is surprisingly impressive
Welcome to Kashiwa, my home😊 Food quality in every Jleague stadium is top quality. Hope you come back and enjoy other places as well.
I have been to Japan twice and absolutely love it man. My friend and neighbor I grew up with is Japanese and his mother still has family there so I got to go back with him. Videos are awesome man and you did a great job of detailing the fans and their passion. I was blown away by the fans and the support when we went to a game in Yokohama. Love the content man and we appreciate you being genuinely grateful for everything you get to do. Thanks for being you dude you truly kick ass.
I'm so glad you're showcasing J-League. I've been watching for several years and it's freaking great. Kawasaki and Sapporo are my teams. Thanks dude!

That's definitely a atmosphere I wouldn't expect in a football match in Japan.
Pretty amazing!
Japanese football and baseball culture is fantastic... they love their sports!
Have been watching J League since the first year! Thanks for showcasing the best Asian league in your video. Kawasaki is always my love. Hope see you again soon
Wow the J League is awesome. Probably have to say my favorite J League team is the Kashima Antlers
Thanks for coming and sharing our J-league man! I wanted you to experience food in the stadium, they are not just simple hotdogs, every team is really organizing various food trucks and I would say that is marvelous! Some of the fans are coming to the lunch, not watching the game sometimes haha
Reminds me of the marvelous food sold at Shinkansen stations, which are often regionally unique too! 🥰
The whole experience of going to a J League match is so enjoyable. The fans are incredibly supportive but polite. The singing is deafening and I really love the way both teams bow to all the stands after the match. The mascots are amazing too!
Such amazing atmospheres , this is why I love football
I’m amazed by the first match. The atmosphere is unreal, unlike anything I’ve seen. I would never have considered a j league match before but now that fixture there I need to go to
Welcome to Japan.
Japan has a lof of Premier League Supporter(I think 5 years ago they are LaLiga supporter).
J leagues supporter and Premier League Supporter are fighting recently on the internet,
Tifo and Support so similiar to european one. A bit like in Italy, France or Germany. But it seems like they have their own style if it comes to cheers and rhythm. Interesting to watch. J League will be on my bucket list as well now!
Japan will win the World Cup to make Asia proud cannot wait until that day arrive
Yokohoma FC are the team I support in the J-League after a great FIFA realistic road to champions league so considering how dreadful the season has been for us I was really really happy with the scoreline.
Thank you for vlogging the culture for us to look back on fondly 🍻
I never thought I would see Yokohama FC supporters in this comment section.
Where are you from?
The best video you have ever done. And the Japanese fans wow. Brilliant from every single team you saw
Thank you!
Absolutely amazing Japan is country i have always wanted to visit because of its culture and this translates to an amazing soccer atmosphere full of theatre , respect and colour English clubs could learn something here KRO
Welcome to Japan!
Thanks for nice report. In fuct I have never been to our National Stadium.
Maybe I should go see how it's like in person. Looks so much fun. 😄👍
Better atmosphere than in most Premier League games
As a FC Porto fan, i find it outrageous that we wasted a talented player as Nakajima also the ambience in the FC Tokyo pre mach and match was amazing
I wish you got to see Urawa Reds too. Just watch the ACL championship game.
I don’t know if this is something common elsewhere, but one thing I absolutely love when watching J-league is that usually the winning team sings the opposing team’s song to show respect
Visited Japan in april, unbelievable country and even managed to catch a footy match. Glad to see you've experienced it too Ellis! Nothing on Wrexhams mighty Cae Ras though

WOW! J League doing this for you can really tell you how popular you are in Japan. Cant wait for you to get invited to more leagues, hopefully they let you in Argentina and/or Brazil.

その通りです。
@awaydays
welcome to kashima antlers!!!🦌🦌🦌
What an amazing atmosphere. I feel like us here in the states could learn from it.
That Reysol curry looks delightful, Japan might be unbeaten for stadium food
Everyone I know who has been to Japan……absolutely love it!
This has made me want to go to Japan even more. Great video. As for my fav team, Vissel Kobe who currently have Iniesta playing for them
Big up to you Ellis! Have been following your channel for a while now, and seems like you exploded last few months.
Japan looks amazing I'd love to go
Japanese pride and energy is something I would really really love to see bleed into other nations. The respect, the culture, the atmosphere is just so positive and healthy I can't help but envy the Japanese and it's truly wonderful growth and culture in all facets
This video is brilliant. The atmospheres are so so good.
This is one of the reason I love your channel. I never would know how amazing japenes football is in person. Wow very loud vocal and great atmospheres. Adds to the list of place I need to go to haha. You still need to do a utrecht game though :P
Very jealous! Looks absolutely incredible. Yet another reason to go to Japan! I'd probably take an umbrella though haha
Jleague should bring you in to do english commentary as well for a match or two in the future.
19:53 Bowing and respect are huge parts of Japanese culture. Train guards bow to a carriage before doing a ticket check as well
I really enjoyed this pal.. I thought you doing this alone would of been crap. But it wasn't it was excellent.. As a ex casual. I can see how family's now love the game. Thank God the bad old days are well gone.. Again I never really give praise. But brilliant..
Asian football on the rise📈
