I really appreciate your showing the shawl in various weights of yarn and your thoughts and reasons for each one. That kind of info really helps me in deciding what yarn to chose. Looking forward to buying yarn‼️‼️
Oh this is so lovely thank you for tutorial, I have done shawls an blanket, now will do poncho, love this pattern, I am frustrated because I am halfway through making another Shawl/Poncho, so will have to wait before starting this one. you are so patient an precise in your instructions Jonna, I think I could create anything following your tutorials. thank you so so much, for your generosity of spirit. Bless you.
What a beautiful poncho. I' m just finishing my first virus shawl. You have an incredible talent for conveying instructions. My next project is your virus poncho. I have been crocheting for 20 plus years and struggled with written instructions. You make everything so clear and workable. Thank you for sharing this gift........Claudette
Joanna, thanks to your clear and concise instructions making this shawl is easy to follow! You have a great voice and it makes your tutorials very pleasant. Thanks so much for your time and sharing your talent with all of us around the world. You're a wonderful teacher❣🖒👏👏👏💖😍
+Mzdiana thank you so very much for your kind words. You will keep me filming. Thank you for taking the time to comment and for watching. 💕🌸🌸🌸🌸 I'm so happy you enjoyed my video!
Thank you Jonna ! When you say Loopy row, Valley & Arches row in that soft sweet voice it helps to on track. I'm what you may refere to as a visual and hearing kind of learner. I Love your Beautiful Ponchos! I will be using the Red Heart Unforgettable Yarn for mine.
i am making this with the red heart roll with it tweed it is coming along so good, at first i didn't think i was getting it but after i got started it just clicked. i did the single stitch for the collar and it's a little heavy but i like it. I will make another one and the next time i'll try the double crochet for the collar with a baby soft yarn. I love this poncho already and i'm only one and a half rolls in. Thank you @jonnamartinez you rock.
thank you for tour videos and for the time spend teaching us ♡ I already made two virus shawl and starting a blanket and this 4 corner poncho. thank you very very much ♡
Good morning. Thank you very very very much for this video. Finally I could do this because there was always videos on shawl not poncho. Thanks again for the clear explaination and God bless you sister. I loved you so much.
Great minds! I made a baby blanket using the LB Ice Cream in Strawberry and a shawl in Cookies and Cream. Also a shawl in RH Unforgettable in Parrot and currently making with Polo. It's addicting, eh?
Ironically I happen to have some Lion Brand Ice Cream color Strawberry in my stash and couldn't decide to what to make with it..Thanks to you I know now what I will be using it for LOL.. Will make this for my 13 year old grand daughter, and a smaller version for my soon to be 3 yr old grand daughter. Thank you so much for sharing!
this is lovely poncho have made shawls and blankets u are a great teacher would love to make this for a child please do a tutorial in child size thanks for all your great tutorials
Thank you! Covid has me looking for things to keep me busy. I will let you know how it goes. The directions at Lion Brand made no sense. I watched this and instantly said ahhhhh I get it!
Wow this is beautiful and so timely as I am wanting to make a poncho for my 7.5yr old granddaughter for next autumn/winter! I have bought some Ice Yarn in Magic Glitz, weight #3, colour 'Purple, orchid, salmon, yellow' so basically a rainbow ! Could you please tell us some different sizes for this lovely poncho so we can make it big enough and not TOO big for our and our (grand)children's heads ??? Thank you for such clear directions ... I have subscribed and saved so many of your videos now !
+Susan Miller I will work up a few different sizes though I only have adult right now. I will also be doing a 2 corner poncho which I think will be even better for small people 🌸🌸🌸
I finally managed to work one out for my 7.5 yr old granddaughter, using your video ... and counting numbers of chain etc ! Phew! I needed her head to know what size to make, and as she lives in Scotland and I live in Portugal that was difficult! I made it during her summer visit to us back in July! She loves it !!! Thank you so much for your inspiration!!
I am an experienced crocheter but have never seen this virus crochet pattern before today. Thank you for the tutorial which is so clearl and easy to follow. I want to make a poncho for my toddler granddaughter, how would I start off for a smaller size? would i have less 3ch gaps in the first pattern row? any advice would be really appreciated, thanks so much for this video
This is such a beautiful poncho and I am following along but I find myself strolling back a lot. Any luck yet on the written pattern? I would be very happy to purchase it when it comes available.
+denise bessette you just have to chain the same number then start the virus stitch to do one without the collar. Thank you for watching and commenting.
Ive been looking for a nice design for a poncho and the four corner poncho is one I would like to make but would like to have a hoodie rather than a collar.
Hello. I totally loved your video and have started one for myself but have had to stop for a while as I have run out of wool lol. Have you managed to make a pattern up size wise for children at all please as I would love to make one of these for all of my children x
+Kayleigh Booton oh no! Running out of wool is the worst 😢 I'm really happy you liked the video. I have created a pattern. It is at Ravelry and Etsy. Thank you for watching and commenting 🌸🌸🌸🌸
+Keitha Rolle you can try a bigger hook and yarn or use my pattern that has other sizes. You can find it on Ravelry and Etsy. Thank you for watching and commenting 🌸🌸🌸🌸
+Dharmika Upadhyay I will add a link to the description box of this video. Here is the link for you, jonnamartinez.blogspot.com/?m=1 I have not taken photos of the pink one yet Hoping to do so today :) Thank you for watching my new video!
Can you apply this collar style to the two corner virus poncho? I prefer the look of the two corner virus poncho, but I really love the collar with this pattern
Love your clear concise instructions Jonna.. Thank you .. well done - is there written instructions anywhere because I am in au and we follow UK crochet terminology therefore much easier to convert the terminology when it is in written format - so confusing to follow video and hard to convert.
+Jade Campbell I completely understand. I like a written pattern to use as well. I hope to get one out soon. I will add it to my blog when I do get it together. Thank you for watching and commenting!
You are more than welcome Jonna, thanks for your response .I know it's hard getting it altogether I am working on several interrelated creative sites simultaneously, and while a lot of content is essentially the same, the handling of the content/instructions is different because the application is different. Not just due to sizing/pattern grading but due to the requirements of each Industry- ie Adult Fashion ( minimum seam allowance for economy to produce) to Costume ( with massive seam allowance to adjust to fit different sized actors) to Doll costuming with a massive range within the Industry of sizes and Costume Construction requirements (dependant on Doll construction/type and the expectations in the Industry of that type ). BJD owners will spend up to $1000 on quality outfits, whereas Reborners may spend $100's - and of course the Minis and Barbie type collectors may only spend up to $100 - so what you use and how you use it depends greatly on the market you are designing for.. Construction wise a ball jointed doll can move due to all those joints so the patterns and fabrics have to be able to withstand that movement. Although the overall principal of Designing & Patternmaking remains the same. So videoing a technique as I go is an extremely valuable part of that story, and the written pattern and application requirements are essential to complete that picture for my students, but IT T.A.K.E.S. so much longer to do. So I completely understand. Thanks again for sharing your knowledge.
+Alice Shao I am doing a 2 corner poncho in different sizes. The reason it is 108 is because if you do the ribbing like my pink poncho it will be tighter when finished. There are two ways you can go smaller. 1. Smaller hook, thinner yarn. Or 2. Chain 72 and only skip every one stitch for the loopy row. Hope this helps. Thank you for watching commenting and your patience in my reply.
+Patricia Robbins I never used a border for my ponchos but they look great with it without. You can check out my virus border videos. Any of them will work for this poncho. Thank you for watching and commenting!
Bonjour Jonna Martinez, ce que vous réalisez est magnifique. Pourriez-vous me dire combien de mailles chaînette faut-il monter au départ svp.merci. Bon dimanche
hello jonna, love ur video. But i m a beginner plz i request u to upload full video of four corner virus poncho from starting to full ending of this poncho. I really need ur full poncho making video to make this poncho for my daughter"s b.day gift. Plz. help me . thank u LOL.
+Sanjeeb Behera what you you having trouble with? Message me on Facebook and I'm sure I can help you. I unfortunately have such a long request list that redoing a video isn't an option right now. I look forward to talking with you. Thank you for watching and commenting 🌸🌸🌸🌸🌸🌸
I wonder if one could chain half the stitches, not create a circle, crochet a ribbed rectangle and then, at the end, chain the rest and create a ring. You could then have a hood as apposed to a collar? Sounds like it might be a fun experiment! :)
This is beautiful. I am just finishing my first virus shawl in fingering. Do you have a pattern for this one? I saw the pattern for the two corner poncho. Thanks
Jonna, based on this pattern, am wondering if the neck design can be adapted to a waist band n the poncho made to look like a skirt?? Won't it look like a beautiful flare skirt?? Thanks Jonna
+Maria D'souza it would be! My written pattern has the large size. I'm not sure it would work... But it would be fun to try. Thank you for watching and commenting 🌸 🌸
If I use the two corner Virus Shawl Pattern, can I follow this to make the ribbed collar? Will I have the same number of stitches I need, to follow that pattern, with this collar?
+Diane Blank you will chain the amount for the 2 corner and them fphdc, bphdc all around for as many rows as you like. Thank you for watching and commenting 🌸 🌸
Hi Jonna....... any progress on a rectangle-shaped virus blanket? Seems like the 2 corner poncho might be adaptable or even the 4 corner poncho. Only thing that would have to be changed would be the neck part, right?
+nvmoo I'm thinking yes.... I've been wanting to try. Now that you asked I will give it a go. Thank you for watching and commenting. Also if you want to try making a hood and sewing it on.....?
+Atia Yousuf hello I am well thank you! You can try the small in the written pattern on Ravelry or Etsy and if that's not small enough use a smaller hook and a baby weight yarn (3) Thank you for watching and commenting
If I wanted to do it with a thicker yarn and a 5.5mm hook instead of 108 stiches how many should I do? Is it supposed to be the size of the head of the person I want to make it for? Or is there some calculation for the virus stiches that you need a certain multiple of 4 or multiple of 5? Thank you so much!
+Tami Whitley my written pattern has the larger size. Or you can use the same chain number and a larger hook and or thicker yarn. Thank you for watching and commenting 🌸🌸🌸🌸
+JoAnnEznack if I made this poncho with that yarn I would use a G 4.25mm hook. Or an H. Thank you for watching and commenting! I'm so happy you like my video!! 🌸🌸🌸🌸🌸
+LYDISANC21 I do not :( but my pattern is out and I can help you if you'd like to contact me via Facebook or my etsy shop. Thank you for watching and commenting 🌸 🌸
Can the four corner virus poncho be made using the to Corner Poncho's beginning collar or can I only do a few rows of the collar? I would love to make this for my mom and but she is not a fan of turtleneck styled items
Hello I found this today and had to get started. However I am finding the cowl portion to be working up quite stiff with the rhss. I have moved up to a 5.5 hook. Can I go up more or will it affect the virus pattern when I get there. Should I go back down in hook size when I reach that part? I am making size small and have purchased your pattern. Any of your help would be appreciated. thanks.
+CaraChrétien16 I think the 5.5 should be fine! And if you feel like going up more give it a go! I've made the virus patterns with all kinds of hooks and I have no issues. It's more changing hook sizes for the ruffling. Thank you for watching and commenting!
Thank you Jonna, but I do not want to go smaller. I want to make this for me. How did you get it to come out with the 108 stitches, was that just sheer luck?
+Mady Schelpe haha no, I drew it out on paper over and over until it came out right and they way I wanted it. The 108 took me a few hours to come up with.
I love this poncho and want so badly to make it. I have attempted the collar 3 times now, each time it’s twisted. Is there a hint, tip or secret to making it thru the first row without it twisting?
+Karen Brown what you can do is make your chain then ch 2 and turn. Work the first row without sl st to join. Then fold the collar in half (flat) this way it cannot be twisted. Sl st, and begin the next row. You can do this with or without the coal collar. Message me on my Facebook if you have any other questions. Siena’s Maine Design. Thank you for watching and commenting!
I noticed on the 2 corner poncho you did the first row of hdc and then joined but on the 4 corner you joined and then did the first row. For the four corner could I crochet the first row and then join?
I only see written patterns on Etsy and Ravelry for the two corner poncho. I’m specifically after the extra large or plus size adult in the four corner poncho. I’m actually trying to modify it as a blanket for a camel. Is there a written pattern for this four corner one in plus size adult? The hole must be larger to fit over the camel’s hump
This is very interesting!! I took the pattern down to update it and haven’t gotten it back up yet. Please send me a message on Etsy. I would love to help you out with this! Thank for watching my tutorial!
Is there anyway to make this small enough for a 3 year old or a 7 year old? I've got 2 girls that would love to have something like this. Thank you for the amazing tutorial, BTW. Love this poncho so much!!
+Kathy Conner it really depends on how you want it to roll over. Go until you like how it rolls over. Then start the virus stitch. Thank you for watching and commenting.
Absolutely!! And large size is available in my written pattern on Ravelry. But I would recommend probably 2500 yards for XL , Thank you for watching and commenting.
+Dorothy Toman I would use an F 3.75 or a G 4.25 or an H 5.00 I've not used that yarn, do a test and see how easy it is to work up with the yarn. Thank you for watching and commenting.
I don't understand why or how anyone could give a thumbs-down to this tutorial! You are an amazingly great teacher!🖒👏👏👏🎖🎖🎖🎖
+Mzdiana thank you so much!! 💕💕
Mzdiana Maybe some people are annoyed at their own skills not being up to par so they take it out on the instructor.
They need a woodshed trip from this granny!
I really appreciate your showing the shawl in various weights of yarn and your thoughts and reasons for each one. That kind of info really helps me in deciding what yarn to chose. Looking forward to buying yarn‼️‼️
+Wendelyn Young that's great! I hope you found the best yarn for you. 💕 thank you for watching and commenting, I love hearing from my viewers!

Jonna, What kind of border would you use for this or does it need a border? Thanks for all of your wonderful tutorials.

You can check out my virus border videos.

Is there a written pattern for this!
Yes! It’s available on Ravelry. Thank you for watching and commenting !
Me encanto tus tutoriales....quiero saber si tienes tutoriakes en español?.. Gracias
Gorgeous
Nice tutorial thanks. How much grams of yarn do i need to make this shawl for a 10 year old girl
That really depends on what yarn you choose.
If you go with the lion brand ice cream yarn, I would say between 700-1000 yards.
Thank you for watching.
Just wondering would this be to big for toddler/ child? If so how could I reduce it to make it fit without messing it up?
+GemoRaven I'm not really sure.... I will be looking into making it smaller. Thank you for watching and commenting.
I have a bulky 6 yarn and want to make this, but how many chains would I begin with using a 10mm hook?
How can I get a hold of you? Do you have a special email for users to ask you questions?
Thank you for all your wonderful videos.
+Vicki Amschler you can message me on Ravelry or through my etsy shop. I'm so happy you like my videos. Thank you for watching and commenting. 🌸🌸🌸
+Jonna Martinez
I tried to send a message, but I don't know if it sent or not. sorry
+Vicki Amschler it sent! My day was crazy busy so I'm just getting back to my messages 🙃 🌸🌸🌸
+MaryLou Mace I'm planing on releasing a video soon.
Thank you for watching!
Hi Jonna, Is it possible to add a hood instead of a collar? Thanks in advance.
+nvmoo I'm thinking yes.... I've been wanting to try. Now that you asked I will give it a go. Thank you for watching and commenting.
Also if you want to try making a hood and sewing it on.....?
Im not too sure how I am going to do it but I guess trial and error is the best way. I will try to make a hood and sew on it. Wish me luck!!
add me to your blog. this is so pretty. do you have it written down?
+Sharon Grogan-Weaver not yet but I hope to have time to get it all down and to my blog very soon !
Thank you for watching and commenting!
hellow how r u ?? your video are very detailed.. I wanted make it for my 1 year old baby so how much chain I should have for this pattern..
+Atia Yousuf hello I am well thank you!
You can try the small in the written pattern on Ravelry or Etsy and if that's not small enough use a smaller hook and a baby weight yarn (3)

Question. On RD#5 the two chain 5 spaces, are those making up the 4 corners?
Yes
Jonna Martinez, how many stitches to we need to make this Poncho in XL? Thank you for your reply !
+NatureLover you can try chaining 144 instead of 108, you will skip 3 stitches instead of 2 for the first loopy row.
Thanks for watching! 🌸🌸
If I want a wider neck on this, is there a multiple of chains I should start with so the pattern works out right?
+Tami Whitley my written pattern has the larger size. Or you can use the same chain number and a larger hook and or thicker yarn.
Thank you for watching and commenting 🌸🌸🌸🌸
Thank you.
Hi Joanna , if I don't want the collar this big, how do i decrease it ? You don't give a multiple count?
Nice
Any suggestions on doing this for a child age 2 through 4?
+Hrafn Nordhri I will be releasing a written pattern soon with a smaller size. Follow my blog or my Instagram to be one of the first to know! 😊🌸🌸🌸
I am interested too. I have a 4 year old and I want to make her one of these so badly.
Jonna Martinez written pattern / virus shawl
what hook size to use if using the Red Heart Unforgettable yarn???..Second time watching this great video...
+JoAnnEznack if I made this poncho with that yarn I would use a G 4.25mm hook.
Or an H.
Thank you for watching and commenting! I'm so happy you like my video!! 🌸🌸🌸🌸🌸
Do you have a tutorial for a child size? I don't know how to read patterns, my brain works easier following a tutorial. TFS.
+LYDISANC21 I do not :( but my pattern is out and I can help you if you'd like to contact me via Facebook or my etsy shop.

Hi, do the 4 corner give more room? It’s for a plus size customer
Can the four corner virus poncho be made using the to Corner Poncho's beginning collar or can I only do a few rows of the collar? I would love to make this for my mom and but she is not a fan of turtleneck styled items
Yes for sure! Thank you for watching and commenting!

I noticed on the 2 corner poncho you did the first row of hdc and then joined but on the 4 corner you joined and then did the first row. For the four corner could I crochet the first row and then join?
+Karen Johnson yes you can! I like doing it that way better so my starting chain is not twisted 😊 thank you for watching and commenting!
If i want to make this without the collar, how many do I have to chain?
+LeftyHooker same number of chain . Thank you for watching and commenting.
Thanks for replying. I thought it might be a bit huggie on the neck if I used the same amount. Thanks.
Is there anyway to make this small enough for a 3 year old or a 7 year old? I've got 2 girls that would love to have something like this. Thank you for the amazing tutorial, BTW. Love this poncho so much!!
Yes I have smaller sizes in my written pattern on Ravelry. Thank you for watching and commenting. I’m so happy you like this pattern. ❤️
How many rows up for the collar should I make for a child's poncho.... thank you
+Kathy Conner it really depends on how you want it to roll over.
Go until you like how it rolls over. Then start the virus stitch.

I love this poncho and want to make one for myself. Could you please advise, approximately what length of yarn is needed?
I would plan 1900-2500 yards of worsted weight yarn for this poncho. Thank you for watching and commenting!
@@JonnaMartinezCrochet Thank you so much for your prompt response.
Can you make this without the collar? Also, if I want to make an XL pattern, how much yardage would I use?
Absolutely!! And large size is available in my written pattern on Ravelry. But I would recommend probably 2500 yards for XL , Thank you for watching and commenting.
Thank you very much for you

Can you make the 4 corner poncho without the collar?
+petlady1106 yes you can! Thank you for watching and commenting.
Can I use Manadala yarn and what size hook should I use
+Dorothy Toman I would use an F 3.75 or a G 4.25 or an H 5.00
I've not used that yarn, do a test and see how easy it is to work up with the yarn.

Hi I'm in Britain how many grams of double knit wool will I need for this please?
+Julie Haines I would say 700-900 grams.
