Playing at 1.25 speed makes things a bit more seemless and not broken a part or awkward in the long lapses of silence.
My favorite game.... Waiting desperately for a remake...
Always nice to see Vincent Price, one of the kings of the horror film world, in a game.
And Mr. Underhouse is the master himself, H.P Lovecraft.
I watch this playthrough once every month or two, thanks for taking the time to make this
Why do you watch it so often?
Now I also watch it once every month or two, thanks for taking the time to make this.
@@fkeopfkeop Why do you watch it so often?
This is one of the most esoteric, cultish sort of game - it's fantastic.
Hey, that's quite a celebrity cast!
John Parker - Robert Redford
Nathan Tyler - Jack Nicholson
Dr. Cobble - Vincent Price
Thomas Bishop - Robert Mitchum
Don't quite recognize the rest, but I'm sure they're digitized fotos of real people too.
ZhengIsRight Tobias Jugg - Elisha Cook Jr
i think glen shadix as the mayor
About John Parker, that would be Dennis Quaid, I think
Parker was obviously Iain Glen (bodyguard and adviser to the Khaleesi, at one point he caught the stone disease?)
The indian, Mel Gibson
3:02:56 When Underhouse told the policeman he and Parker "spent the evening together" and wiggled his eyebrows suggestively, for a split second I thought he meant it in a way too intimate sense. But then I remembered that he does this wiggling as a normal way of facial play. I felt kind of debauched xD ...
I thought the same thing; thought it was too coincidental to be something that happened accidentally lol
That would have been super hot together!! Mr John Parker and Mr H Undergouse together❤❤❤
A bit of funny here. Officer Baggs introduces himself, and according to the text, our hero says "Glad to meet me.".
This was pretty hard game. "Later, Mr. Parker. Later!" haunted me very long time.
Amazing! Thank you so much for uploading this. I loved this game growing up and to have it in one longplay is fantastic. Epic effort. Thank you again!!!!!!!!!!!
Never heard of this one until I did a google search for horror point and clicks. Crazy dude at the beginning looks kind of like me so I'm sticking around to see what he gets up to lol
So the Mayor in this game is modelled on Glenn Shadix...one of the game designers is a Nightmare Before Christmas fan.
2D adventures are great, no dizziness
that was an 18 dollar beer he bought when you calculate for inflation .
I always loved trying to track down the real life likenesses of the character portraits they used in these games, like Vincent Price, Jack Nicholson or Glenn Shadix. Still haven't placed the main character's likeness.
I think its suposed to be David Bowie
@@Delicouspie looks more like Patrick Swayze
57:48 looks like the guy from the shining i wouldn't trust him as my guide
Hahahaha, that is Jack Torrence (Jack Nicholson)
They used a lot of Hollywood actors faces in this game. I’m pretty confident that it was without their permission...
Shadow of the Comet indeed, I played this game between the period that Comet Hyakutake C/1996 B2 and Hale Bop occulted the same star on the same day a year apart. In 1996 Hyakutake C/1996 B2 crossed through the Constellation Draco.
I can't say for sure but I didn't finish it till at least a year later perhaps 1998 or 1999, had to play all the way through. Comet Lee
occulted Algol on April 27, 1999.
one of the greatest video games of all time !!!
I've never seen ms dos look so beautiful
Haha, that's Jack Nicholson...
Stay Forever listeners: Did you come here because of the podcast, too?
Yes!
The ancient ones drove me, in equal shares, here and insane. Their names? Gunnarlott'oth and Cthul'Schmitt'hog
Caught me! ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Yes!
Guilty as charged!
"I don't know how to thank you. Here is my bible ...." LOL
1:23:24 :))
HOW HORRIFIC! Ahhahh..... My hearth!
I like how the Doctor trusted him around 2:56:45
Thanks for the Walk/Play Through. Played this game not long after it was released and really enjoyed it. Remember reading reviews and people complaining about the "clunky" interface but I didn't think it was that bad. Enjoyed replaying but admit, needed the video to get me through a few parts. Not sure how I made it through the first time since on-line help wasn't readily available the first time.
Because back in the days people used to think. Today they go online at the slightest glimpse of a distant difficulty.
Discovered this game by playing “prisoner of ice”
Am I only one who can not stand how big every room in this game is? Those people live like kings.
THANK YOU!
...
THANK YOU!
I like how the sailor just give his boat without questions lol, nice game btw
What a treat ! I enjoyed this video BIG TIME 👌🏼 Reminded me of Indiana Jones & the last crusade adventure...What a CLASSIC game Shadow of the Comet is !!!
Very nice drawings, storyline. Great game for that time. I played it a lot but somehow I didn't manage to finish it, I think it crashed at some point. Probably some files were damaged
The middle of the 90´s were the peak of adventure games. More than that is not needed in my opinion.
Mon premier jeu d'aventure sur mon premier ordinateur : que de souvenirs... :)
oui c'est bien vrai ! Que de souvenirs............
THANK YOU
Thanks for the playthrough. Since the release of the game on GOG, I was wondering about it. In the end, it's quite the classic lovecraftian story- though I hardly see how, for some, it can the "scariest adventure game of all times". It's even goofy at some points, especially with the deaths of the four cultists. And Parker seems to be 100% sane after all he saw and did... A bit odd.
+Aro Naar
He did develop a heart condition after just being chased by that Indian. That's something I suppose. :p
But yeah, even at Mass Effect, (that's pretty Lovecraftian game if you really think about it) the ending was not kind for the hero who thought they'd stop the cosmic Reapers. So I agree on that after watching this Let's play. :)
daaamn that adlib sound
funny how the gypsies guitar theme sounds Lydian, giving the impression of a Greek taverna or a Polish highlander's sheep barn rather than Spanish-Gypsy flamenco
this game is one of the best games I played on PC ... the atmosphere on it, the characters and the music is just really well produced
this game was scary! the music is very eerie
Am I crazy, or is the voice of the policeman Baggs the EXACT same voice of the policeman in "Darkseed 2"?
--Well, anyway, thank you so much for uploading this...even though I died a zillion times playing this, I love this game, and it was wonderful to see it! I especially love the music.
why does that lighthouse guy look like that insane guy from the shining
Because he is. Jack Nicholson.,
That was the idea. All the characters looked like well known actors
Considering that they used the same recording studio as Darkseed II according to the credits, it’s very likely.
It makes my head spin just thinking about it lol
I enjoyed this playthrough very much. My only gripe is the music is so, well, overbearing at times it needs to just slow it down and relax lol
58:09
Tyler: Here's Johnny!
"Say hello to Satan for me"
I love how cheerfully he says this
What a twist!
Classic Lovecraft.
Played this game when i was like 10 years old, imagine the trauma i kept. And this Walkthrough doesnt show any death (so many deaths possible)...
If someone got this going with Chaosium again, it would make for a badass PC game!
This game is amazing and I’ve only ever rewatched this playthrough for a couple years.
1:59:45 Gesundheit
He said the N word
I had a copy of this game when I was a kid but it was dodgy - always used to crash at the same point about half an hour in. I never found out what happens, so I'm looking forward to watching this all the way through. Man, I don't remember the dialogue being so horrendously slow though... 😑
Sun Trespasser thank you! the entire time I thought it's because my Internet was acting up.
i love you mr parker...
As a game it was terrible. As a story and H.P. Lovecraft homage it was brilliant. I've searched several years to get a boxed copy. I got it :)
Heaven is a painting.
Why didn't the pharmacists daughter tell parker to stay. Her father said she was into him.. really weird.
Least intuitive adventure ever
I remember getting stuck in the crypt myself and it looks just as annoying as back then.
The Author boss guy thingy could be H.P. Lovecraft.
Ayup. AitD was originally supposed to be a Call of Cthulhu -game, but the designer hated the rulesystem of CoC.
i regret i never played this when i got my first pc in 1992 - i had the demo but never bought the game :( i dont think my patience would let me play this 'today'. lure of the temptress was also a title i never had the time to play :(
Narackamous always killed me when I found him and his group in the forest (around 1:14:10 ). After the "cinematic" ended, he stood besides parker, and killed him instantly. There was no time, or option to run away. So I never got past that point. What did I do wrong back then? After doing some digging, apparently you must hide yourself by holding the right arrow key. I think if you don't do this, the bat does not drop the paper, and you will get killed. The game was good, but flawed in many ways. Good example of bad game design.
True. There are the seeds for greatness in this game, but it feels so unfinished. The game design is dismal and some of the riddles don't make a lot of sense. But the atmosphere and plot are quite good.
If you ever played operation stealth, the idea was great, but the game was awful in execution. The puzzles completely unfathomable and arbitrary.
35:44 “read my lips” lips stop moving
“STAY OUT OF MY WAY” 🤣😂🤣😂🤣🤣 police man frowns... hahahahahaha
Question: is the text/dialogue always so slow, or is the player in the video just taking extra time at the cadence to allow YT viewers time to read everything at a leisurely pace?
This is how you make a terrifying yet corny game. Scientists thought it impossible, but Cthulhu proved them wrong.
Yog Sothoth's entrance was... odd to say the least.
How can something that big sneak up on you?
lol Me and my brother played that game when I was around 10 and he 12. We never finished it, thats what i can say so far. I think it was just not a game to difficult.
lol this game is completely illogical. The Night Howler whom the Mic Macs venerated was supposed to be Nyarlathotep - but when Nanawanga asks Parker for the answer, he has to answer "Yog-Sothoth". Since when Yog-Sothoth howls in the night?
Everythign is ZGreek to me. Yougive me this room on purpose.
Isn't Infogrames the same company that made "Alone in the Dark"?
Yep:)
'93 ?Awesome graphics
Not really, by 1993 those graphichs for a PC were pretty average at best..
They could've worked a bit more on the walking animations 😄
3:01:43
"Mr. Underhouse is expecting you"
Well, he might be, since he's in a fucking wheelchair upstairs, where he could go??
Tried to play this game on GOG. Unfortunately the game's window won't adjust correctly. No matter which size I use. So I'll watch this instead.
2:12:53 Alice Cooper
i love this game but it REALLY doesn't make it obvious what you need to do to progress and that's annoyin as fuck
Wish i knew how to mix stuff in inventory like,i just bought this and i dont even know the keys :(
is this series before penumbra?
1:04 - A bit of an Indian accent there.
I'd have to say that among the things that are MOST disturbing about this game is the thought that it takes place...IN THE EARLY 20TH CENTURY.
I'd have to say that that would be one of the most freaky things about such an experience, living in that time period as remote and potentially superstitious as the world would have been.
I'm sorry but I can't help but luahg when ever someone calls out to Cthulhu it's just the way the voice actor sounds.
They seriously sound constipated. "WHYLUUUU.....ca-THUNG!" plop
Well, if that's not cheesy ending, I don't know what is.
"THANK YOU!" *awkward pause* "THANK YOU!"
Where water, earth and sky come together? And it isnt a burial place if he is still alive?
The game is so unintentionally hilarious it's entertaining even without Retsupurae's commentary.
8:47 J.K Simmons?
Vincent Price!!
2:15:36
Bookmarking myself...
Sounds like my father sneezing
The CDI style cutscenes are weird.
For something using the Lovecraft license it mentions the devil, hell and calls the outer gods evil.... very misguided, not very Lovecraft. Well still a good one.
+Watch crap Yeah not really accurate but it's still a fun game
+Watch crap It doesn't take much reflection to see the similarities between Lovecraft and the demonic.
제목아시는분?~ㅇ
At 2x the speed it’s still pretty slow
People were not so much in a hurry in the good old 90´s....
Dat to French than back to English translation loool
no wonder adventure games genre died - puzzles are complete random bullshit. when you treat your players like that - they'll just go away
Ну, справедливости ради, их сейчас неплохо заменяют интерактивные фильмы и визуальные новеллы, жаль только что сюжеты в большинстве их них полнейшая херня, но это уже дух времени.
the word bubbles out of sync or its just crappy developer design
that's just how the game is. lovely, ain't it?
Snarfle especially when it was made in 1993.
ㅂㄱ‥
les voix sont à chier
This has got to be some of the WORST voice acting I have ever heard in my LIFE!
