In 1998 I bought a computer magazine, and along with it was a game CD Prisoner Of Ice. It seemed like a simple game, but entertained. I do not believe it's been 15 years! Another day I remember this game by chance and decided to take a peek here on UA-cam. Thank you for sharing! Greetings from Brazil.
I just finished this game. I have to say, Call of Cthulhu: Prisoner of Ice had a somewhat decent beginning and middle. I liked the fact that your character had a military occupation (instead of being a private investigator like in Dark Corners of the Earth or The Official Video Game) and that the game featured pre-World War II Nazi villains. And of course, the music and atmosphere were very good. But it all fell apart once Lt. Ryan went to the future. He's only there for a few minutes and doesn't even interact with anybody there before he returns to 1937. It feels like the developers ran out of ideas as to what to do with the game and just rushed to the ending as quickly as possible. The last couple sections of the game are...underwhelming, to say the least. It's not terrible, but I can definitely see why this game doesn't get nearly as much love as Shadow of the Comet. It also makes me wish Headfirst's Call of Cthulhu sequel, Beyond the Mountains of Madness (another game that would've involved battling Nazis in Antarctica in 1937) didn't get cancelled.
I agree, sub-par adventure game. Most of the puzzles are uninspired, verging on crappy, with some pixel hunts and the pillar puzzle near the end being particularly shit (how on Earth were you supposed to figure out the order from "Air" to "Prisoner"? or did I miss some important in-game clue?) The dialogues are bad, the voice acting in the version in this playthrough - listed as UK version on GOG - is very bad, most of the actors sound like either they don't give a shit or are a bunch of talentless acting studies sophomores (who couldn't pronounce Jorge if their lives depended on it) The English accents - either terrible or are not even trying to hide the actor is American [sic, and this apparently was the "UK version"] Only the evil nazi head honcho stands out, really solid work from that one dude. Pity, the idea for a story was great; but the game turned out to be pretty hollow. Just finished it again, and it's nowhere near as good as I remember from my childhood; and compares really poorly to classic point&click games, or newer games e.g. Wadjet Eye
That is the version I played in the nineties. However, I recently found out that there is a slightly older, probably non-CD version, and it has hilarious voice acting. You can find it on UA-cam.
The voice acting in this game is magnificent, especially Parker's voice acting that's nothing like the voice acting in Shadow of the Comet. I can't wait to hear Retsupurae's commentary on the latter half of the game. :)
Jesus.. i played this as a child and never heared of Lovecraft at this time. Now im a big fanboy of lovecraftian stuff and got remembered by a small trailer... :D thx for this video
It feels like Monty Python making a parody of Cthulhu mythos... I understand that ppl tend to enjoy this game due to its nostalgic factor, and not its corny plot or hopelessly poor dialogues and voice acting.
the same can be said regarding Call of Duty Advanced Warfare.......The game is great, and is trying to make something here, other than just proove you can have better SFX........today they are just trying to give you the same bullshit over and over again just with some improved graphics........just watch FIFA or CoD.
+silenig This looks the GOG version of the game... it is? If thats right... were you able to use the upscaling/ resolution window? in mine not works... Aswell, any ideo on how to change the languaje? In GOG looks like had all languajes but Im unable to find a way to change it.
I have the saturn port of this and the graphics are far inferior to the ps1 one version. Selecting any items to use on the tool bar you can't distinguish what they are same on some of the backgrounds in the game on the saturn, the clarity here is far better. That said its still a great point and click adventure game.
+W Bailey You basically dont disturb the timeline with your presence if you vanish from then on, and all things considered you wont be around for round two when it comes.
So much wasted potential. While I love the drawings and the music, I never played it to leaving the sub at the start back in 1999, when a friend gave me the CD to this game. And watching the long plays I am reminded why: Extremely bad puzzles/logic, bad dialogues, i.e. completely broken script. And at the same time after I watched the first long play around 2018 I rewatched it multiple times.
This game was bad in 1995 and now is beyond the worst crap you can imagine. Pixel hunting, stupid riddles, short as hell and with lazy storytelling. Only one good thing is Cthulhu ;) Thx for the "long"play though...
This really repesents the worst period for games: not "classic", not yet NextGen, something in-between with not the charm of the old neither the beauty of the new, some sort of hybrid period that gave us games that can't really be played today.

Masterpiece. Fantastic game. I still remember those feelings from old...realy old days, playing that game.
I remember the Demo... D@ng what eerie suspense captured even way before all h*ll broke loose...
Great game!... 20 years has past since i last played this game... i can't believe it...
Corporal_Hicks 1977 Same here 🙈🤘🍻
And now 6 years have passed since you made that comment. Time goes by so fast nowadays.
@@HerecomestheCalavera1 year since you made your comment
i played this when i was 8 years old
today i am 30 and all my life I was scared becuase of this monsters
25 years... lotta white nights doing these cinematics on Softimage...thanks for the longplay
My uncle had this game... I remember playing this on his computer 20+ years ago... never knew what to do when that blue monster appeared.
Diane has a butt that won't quit. That sashaying animation is top-notch.
That is the version I played in the nineties. However, I recently found out that there is a slightly older, probably non-CD version, and it has hilarious voice acting. You can find it on UA-cam.
i so loved this game. the art style, the music stuck in my head... even the game is on the really easy side.
"The Medium" from Bloober Team has a little flavor of this game to me. We definitely need more games like this !
Thank you for this longplay.

What fucking Parker, mate? His name is Ryan.
What the hell wasted days as a kid trying to play this.... was doing it completely wrong always thought we had to kill the monster
Now imagine I've finished it with no English knowledge at all. :) I was 12 back then.
Second adventure game I ever played.I still remember many many of its quotes
Jesus.. i played this as a child and never heared of Lovecraft at this time. Now im a big fanboy of lovecraftian stuff and got remembered by a small trailer... :D thx for this video
I can relate with that too.
Still, not the version I used to play. I played a version where the title screen and text at 3:45 were voiced by the narrator. Possibly Ryan's voice.
Ryan & Diane are such a sympathetic couple. Just like me and the wife.
In Brazilian portuguese version they named Falkland islands to Malvinas islands. Just a curiosity.
I was big into Shadow of the Comet. If I'd have known about this game I would have gone mad for it
love the discovery channel muscle car television show butt rock music at the end
That intro tho 💀
those graphics are clearly evidence of one of the first 3d games
What kind of version is this? The voices were recorded again and sound very different, just like some of the soundtrack
It feels like Monty Python making a parody of Cthulhu mythos...

Is this a speedrun? Because I'm not sure how you're supposed to work out these puzzles.
Martin Dash pixel hunts
I wasted a long time deciphering them when I was a kid...
Cool sub sounds. Great story!
Wouldn't it have been more logical that Ryan would be Parker's great-grandson?
2016 and still my best game :D
And I've thought Shadow of the comet was cheesy...
The ludicrous acting is part of the charm with some of these old games, isn't it? (see: the original Resident Evil)
Yeah, but that silly elements don't really fit with Lovecraft's works. Writing and characters in RE never really changed to this day anyway, LoL
Yeah, this one is not even trying to be scary. They made a cartoon out of the Mythos.

Wow. Over in 80 minutes.
Ahhh, you got the game with the weird different voice actors.... God Driscoll sounds tired.
Haha, shouldn't these guys be more alarmed about the straight up monster they met in the submarine?
Also, why is Parker talking with Texas accent? He was brittish!
"Yee-haw! Ah dunno wut yer talkin' 'bout, pihl-grum!"
Not funny
36:41 Bro, how about chewing your food first?
Why did they bother having an option at the end for two different endings, if they're both basically the same? What was the point?
+W Bailey You basically dont disturb the timeline with your presence if you vanish from then on, and all things considered you wont be around for round two when it comes.
Driscoll sounds like a proper stoner
I remember this game
Raiders of the Lost Arc mixed with Lovecraft?
I remember this game i bought in sweden
Fantastic game!

you just cant win with the old ones.
cthulhu? more like Aliens

If anyone knows the Buenos Aires song, please send it my way.
