My grandpa was a hustler, made his living his whole life doing it. I asked him once who was the best player he ever came across, he told me Efren Reyes was the best player and most genuine man he’d ever met. One of the few times he ever spoke genuinely respectful of anyone.

He's so good that he doesn't even play for the prizes, he plays for fun. He makes the most simple shots so difficult not for bragging, but to make the game fun for him to play and others to watch. He's actually so humble that it's a pleasure for the opponents to lose for him ins such majestic ways.

Efren is why I got into pool. He made me look at the game like anything was possible if you can figure out the math. Unfortunately I can no longer play due to injury in one eye and loss of sight in the other, but I still love the game and watching Efren's old matches can still bring a smile to my face.

Efren had the same problem now, he lost to a chinese fan last year and said it is hard to play with his dwindling eyesight and shaking hands

they did'nt laugh because of the impossible. they were laughing because they knew he could do it at the same time was a very easy shot to close the game but he decided to give them a twist and thrilling shot
The amazing thing about that shot was that he actually had to add reverse English to the ball in order for it to kick off the back rail at the perfect angle such that it would reversed the angle of the rebound and put the ball on a perfect trajectory after hitting the back rail. Simply amazing. I have no words; he might not be the best pool player in the world but he certainly is the best magician on a pool table.

I like it that Earl Strickland has loosen up over the years. While I acknowledged his skill in billiards, I didn't like his younger self because he was such a sore loser. I like him now because he has become more friendly to the other players especially to Efren "Bata" Reyes.

cause Efren isn't a punk. Earl hates punks. But of all the pool players in the world, Earl is one of them who I want to have a beer with. The stories that guy would tell.
Efren Reyes, or the magician, did not gain his exquisite and unique proficiency from nothing. He started playing pool since he was 8 y/o and now he's 65 y/o (dated today) which means he has been playing pool for 57 years (born August 26, 1954).
Efren has mastered the entire pool table angles, strikes force, unimaginable control and precision on the cue ball, and a very high self-confidence with absolutely no vanity (He's very humble and friendly by the way).
Two more things about Efren Reyes, he has never underestimated any opponent, and he has never neglected the calculation of any hit no matter how easy the ball is.

Legend, absolute legend! He could take easier shots or played more defensively, but he put it on the line all the time -- no wondered he's adored the world over. I never seen anyone with better mastery of bank shots, particularly three and four rail shots. This is one dude I'd love to meet. Kind of like Ali.
