The definition of free to play games is wrongly misunderstood by the games devs. Many of "Free to play" games are just free for few hours, then it's like "Pay to not get your ass wiped by rich kids" or "Pay to unlock more content" Fuck these games, DC, Marvel, Ghost recon and many games are doing this. In a MOBA your character will change depending on who you choose (well no duh), and the same goes for your opponent. It's not perfect, but it keeps me mildly entertained. Really just a matter of preference, and I'd have to disagree on Nick's opinion of computer speed. I would put it down to the games being PvP based, with objectives to keep it from being mindless slaughter (the person who has 90% of the kills will not necessarily win, though it's more likely for them to, and they may hamper the resource generation of the rest of their team), and requiring some level of teamwork to keep your side afloat. This would make it easy for a group of friends to pick it up, and play as a team. I personally can't stand first person shooters, but people of varying age brackets play them.
Warframe is seriously the epitome of 'Free MMO'. EVERYTHING in the game can be obtained without spending a single cent. There are only cosmetic options which do cost premium currency HOWEVER, there are items you an obtain in the game which can be traded to other players for PREMIUM currency. I mean seriously, getting free premium currency by simply playing for a few hours.
Like they said about archeage: the game itself is great, Trion dun fucked it up and Ghost Recon is just different from other shooters. PS2 brings not much to the table other than incredible size.
Flourikum After playing Archeage for a while I personally found it lacking in content and pretty generic. Ghost Recon was nothing new besides it being Ubisoft's P2W FPS/TPS hybrid. The cover system was pretty smooth, I'll give it that, but I would rather just play the game that the multiplayer was ripped from (GRFS). Both had a pretty big issue with player base too. Planetside is unique because it is the only MMOFPS in its true form, a huge world with multiple battles going on simultaneously. Plus it is beautiful as fuck. Beta was rough, and every time I come back to it it still has some issues, and seems lacking in large new content besides a new map and some guns, but it was the only one that I felt had anything worth going back to and revisiting because there is nothing else that has its same feel. Though it looks like its player base has been dying since the SOE/DGC change.
Long Johnson well about archeage, i was really excited to play the game. then when it came out i started to play.ofc. but then i realised that i had my max settings up and the graphics was SHIT!. even though im all about the gameplay, which was just as shitty, i decided after lvl 28 that i would give up on it :l
Flourikum Archeage is not bad no, but Trion Worlds does not know what they are doing. Tera on the other hand, IS GREAT! Not to mention it always works! I know a lot of people, including myself, who cannot run Archeage because the launcher is bugged.
***** Every game will have a few immature kids in it (Not all but most games do). And Unturned's graphics are decent but when you update to the preview branch the graphics are 10/10. Compare it to Minecraft Minecraft will be more dull than Unturned. The gameplay is kind of repetitive but then again it's a survival game. You do whatever you want. It's just like playing DayZ, H1Z1, or Rust. You do whatever you want. There's no objective whatsoever. I give the game an 8/10 tho :D

I've yet to see a list of this kind that includes Heroine's Quest: The Herald of Ragnarok. It's sad too, because that game is such a work of art... it's a love letter to oldschool Sierra games that many of us early adopters of PC gaming culture have grown up with like the Quest for Glory franchise. As a matter of fact, it feels like an actual Quest for Glory game, and it's completely free. I had been taught that no man-made things that were worth your while were ever truly free, but... this game certainly is!

Eh, forgot Block N Load; a tactical FPS with a strong emphasis on teamwork. Basically, the child of TF2 and Minecraft, it unfortunately does not have a huge server pop. And for anyone who looks it up and complains about it being an Overwatch copy, it is more than likely that Overwatch may have copied Block N Load, as Block N Load came out at least a year before Overwatch could be played.
Heroes & Generals is 1 of a few games where u can progress to get everything in the game over time or opt to get it with irl money and will consider pay to win. yes u can get a class, yes u can get the same gun, but the grind for a decent gun or class in the game is months of grinding for things most other games would hand you for free. go for sniper class, buy a bolt action no scope on your way there, get ready to buy the scope, find out u have to rebuy the bolt action with scope when u get the new class. that alone will take u 2 months of grinding, not including all the modifications for the gun to make it good.
Agreed dota 2 is by far one of my fav games ever and to be honest I hated it by the looks but then I kept wondering why it is popular then tried it out myself and I tell ya it's worth learning...at first I didn't understand but then gave it more chances watched guides and now I LOVE THIS GAME it's so AWESOME
Not to many people play this, but Dirty bomb is free to play, really fair on the fact that you DON'T have to play a dime to play and not get your ass kicked AND it's really fun. The only thing it is lacking is more game modes, other then that though, its a awesome game.
Is that game worth it? I played it for about an hour. Kept getting one-shot killed by people with guns, and kept dying after being hit twice by zombies. Wasn't fun.
Please keep in mind Dota, League of Legends, and etc. isn't for everyone. *There really isn't a game that is perfect and everyone loves.* So if you don't get why, maybe you should look for a different game. While a lot of people may disagree with you about how "bad Dota can be," go look for other free or paid games that you can enjoy and support.

Dratikenn Wolfeye No it isn't a copy and paste of league of legends at all. Mainly because Dota Allstars was made first, then League, then Dota 2. Dota 2 punishes you harder and has turn ratios while league doesn't. Plus Dota 2 has more items.

I've yet to see a list of this kind that includes Heroine's Quest: The Herald of Ragnarok. It's sad too, because that game is such a work of art... it's a love letter to oldschool Sierra games that many of us early adopters of PC gaming culture have grown up with like the Quest for Glory franchise. As a matter of fact, it feels like an actual Quest for Glory game, and it's completely free. I had been taught that no man-made things that were worth your while were ever truly free, but... this game certainly is!

Eh, forgot Block N Load; a tactical FPS with a strong emphasis on teamwork. Basically, the child of TF2 and Minecraft, it unfortunately does not have a huge server pop. And for anyone who looks it up and complains about it being an Overwatch copy, it is more than likely that Overwatch may have copied Block N Load, as Block N Load came out at least a year before Overwatch could be played.

Heroes & Generals is 1 of a few games where u can progress to get everything in the game over time or opt to get it with irl money and will consider pay to win. yes u can get a class, yes u can get the same gun, but the grind for a decent gun or class in the game is months of grinding for things most other games would hand you for free. go for sniper class, buy a bolt action no scope on your way there, get ready to buy the scope, find out u have to rebuy the bolt action with scope when u get the new class. that alone will take u 2 months of grinding, not including all the modifications for the gun to make it good.
Agreed dota 2 is by far one of my fav games ever and to be honest I hated it by the looks but then I kept wondering why it is popular then tried it out myself and I tell ya it's worth learning...at first I didn't understand but then gave it more chances watched guides and now I LOVE THIS GAME it's so AWESOME

Not to many people play this, but Dirty bomb is free to play, really fair on the fact that you DON'T have to play a dime to play and not get your ass kicked AND it's really fun. The only thing it is lacking is more game modes, other then that though, its a awesome game.

Is that game worth it? I played it for about an hour. Kept getting one-shot killed by people with guns, and kept dying after being hit twice by zombies. Wasn't fun.

Please keep in mind Dota, League of Legends, and etc. isn't for everyone. *There really isn't a game that is perfect and everyone loves.* So if you don't get why, maybe you should look for a different game. While a lot of people may disagree with you about how "bad Dota can be," go look for other free or paid games that you can enjoy and support.
