the only reason why I will play this game and take all the time in the world to uncover every single thing in it is because of the wonderful memories I have from living in Nova Scotia, specially in the Digby area for many years growing up. Like just hearing you mentioned the names Digby, Yarmouth brought tears to my eyes.
I basically did the exact opposite i caught like 6 swordfish sold it for 30k switched to deepline and bough a crew guy then took out a loan and upgraded the engine and storage size and made over 300k in a hour and 30
As a fisherman who does snowcrab, lobster and rock crab this game is super realistic, I only wish for lobster you could set more then one trap per line
I've got to travel from Yarmouth to Lunenburg, in a crap boat, 12 days 😂 50k, can't fast travel so bought autopilot, I find something else to do for the next 3 days! 😅😅😅
Skipping tutorial starts you with 30,000$. Just skip, take out a loan to buy deeplines and a crew member and go deepline fishing until you have enough for ocean runner. Skip time when prices are bad. Skip by a few weeks or so.
@@Born2Game meh. Id rather get the deeplines early. You can easily pay the loan on your first deepline haul. I'd rather spend more time deep line fishing than harpooning. Harpooning is annoying. Especially since your crew cant help with it. Wish they could. Either by driving closer for you or throwing the harpoon while you drive. Tried it with the "Full Throttle" boat and its bugged. The crewman acts like they're gutting fish on edge of bow walkway. Lol
To get the best start, skip the first tutorial and get 30k instantly. If you do the tutorial, sell the fish you get wherever they send you, and take out loans to start deeplining. From bank, take out 2 $20,000 loans which should get you started with all the gear you'll need, plus a few upgrades to engine, autopilot and storage. Your first haul will more than pay off those loans. Do not do missions, that's a huge waste of time.
this game is obviously for people who love boats but don't have one as you cannot fast travel during a mission. the learning curve is steep I wish they had a printable manual. I don't recommend enabling patrol until you learn the ropes because you can't go above 6 knots in the local areas.
Do t take out a loan. Just go on a couple trips of harpooning which is actually pretty fast. Plus u don’t have to wait a day to get bites on your lines. Then get set up for deep line and max out your cargo capacity. Then I get the backstabber, imo that’s a really nice boat. Ocean runner is good, but 40 deep lines brings in way more than you can haul back in it. And don’t even bother lobster fishing in it, just get knots guilty so u can string together pots. I can see ocean runner for long lining in between crab/lobster and tuna season though since u can put a mechanical gutting machine on it
I am by no means a beginner, but I’m just wondering whether I should do scallops, crab, or trawling, I know all of them are pretty good but I’m just not sure which one to do
I must disagree with your starting method. The game does not teach you how to properly harpoon fish but I will. It is the most fun way though it takes some skill. You are supposed to hunt the fish, not wait for them to come to your idle boat. Think of it like dogfighting in planes. The best way I have found to make fast money is to harpoon tuna. In 8 game days of strictly harpooning tuna on hard mode I can afford a fully upgraded Double Trouble with full crew and 80 baited deeplines. Start out by skipping the tutorial. Upgrade your engine and storage to the best option for both. Go to the bar and get the free tuna tip. Drive to that spot and look for fish on the surface. Tuna swim at around 4 to 5 knots, keep that in mind. It's way easier to harpoon during daylight so skip some time if necessary till about 9 am. Now throttle up and find a target. Think dogfighting and you're in a fighter jet. Get on your targets six and cut your speed to match the fish. Now get to the bowsprit and throw when ready. The closer the target fish is to being directly in your boats path the easier it is to reel it in. Think of a clock, you want the target fish to be between 10 and 2 but the closer to 12 the better. Every youtuber I've seen just parks their boat and tries to harpoon fish way to far and moving away from them. That is the opposite of what you should be doing. No wonder everyone takes out loans to get to deeplines asap. 3 full Mikki trips should make enough to buy the Backstabber. Upgrade it same as the Mikki. 3 or 4 full Backstabber trips should be enough to get the Double Trouble as i described at the beginning. I was making 350k per full Backstabber. Once you get the hang of it you can start plotting intercept routes to your target fish. Tuna sometimes travel in groups of 4 or 5, but mostly you'll find pairs or triplets. Time their speed and yours so when they cross in front of your boat you are already out there aiming your harpoon. Tuna can turn really fast so it's best to plan your attack when they go straight. Night harpooning is fun too but first get good during daytime before you try night fishing. This method does take some skill and practice but once you get the timing down it's very fun. Hunting down a school of 5 tuna and picking them off one at a time your hold will be full quickly. Then skip time till next season so the habitats will all be 100 percent. If you don't you will kill that habitat with those 80 deadlines. Happy harpooning.

Xbox player here 👋🏻 I took someone else's advice here and did the tutorial once to get acclimated to the game. Then I made a new save and skipped the tutorial to get $30k right off the bat. Take out a loan or two to rig your ship out for deepline fishing. The harpoon bullshit is too time consuming and not worth it. Fill your boat with 8 deeplines, bait them for swordfish or tuna, and get going. 8 lines was getting me $120k each run I made, which isn't bad. Do that till you can purchase the Ocean Runner, and fully outfit that for deepline. You can get 40 on that boat. 40 good lines was getting me $1.4 million give or take. The ocean runner doing deepline fishing will net you the most money till you can afford a good crab boat. I plan on doing that till I can get the Saga crab boat.

This games swordfishing harpoon is stupid lol. How the hell you supposed to poke fish when you gotta drive and chase to lol sitting there waiting on a good chance I mean it’s dumb they need a guy on the harpoon so you can run em down
What do you think to this starting method? Any tips you can provide to further help players begin their fishing journey?
Whenever you bait deep line, just always do herring. You’ll still catch swordfish but you’ll have a higher chance of tuna (more money)

Do the tutorial, catch around 7 Swordfish and start with $50,000 no loan. Bit more time consuming but more starting money for boat upgrades :D

Skip harpoons, waste of time
I'm new to the game on console (xb1). How do I go about the deepline? the harpooning is too much of a pain
I would recommend to buy an autopilot in the beginning to do mission

Anyone else get a lobster tutorial instead of sword fishing?
Ya, me on PS4 Pro recently.
You have to create a custom game then switch the starting boat. I learned that the hard way trying to navigate in the slow ass lobster boat... Lol
Harpooning is a custom difficulty or Hard difficulty start. Easy (or choosing "No Yankee" in custom) gets you the Lobster tutorial.
Most enjoyable and informative 👏✨️
It started me in a lobster boat. Is that bcus I picked beginner difficulty?

Deeplines with squid is the easiest way to catch swordfish. Deeplines with herring catch tuna. I never did harpoon anything.

Thanks for posting
I had to start with the lobster boat
You can either do hard(not recomended) or custom to choose your boat if you want the spearfish boat
The immersion is real
