- Another gem from the United stash. This one is an in-company video (dated November, 1983) containing their TV ads that were to be run (and presumably were run) during the early months of 1984.
Gotta love the discount Walter Matthau that appears in some of the ads and the wraparounds.

I absolutely loved this..great memories of my years in New York..Thank you United Airlines..it was always a pleasure flying with you.
probably one of the most wholesome videos i've ever seen on this site. thanks for uploading it ben.
The outtake and how the camera kept rolling whilst the staff were messing about reminds me of the ITV Christmas Tapes which were handed around by all of the engineers at the TV studios every year... only they were far more explicit
Not forgetting the tapes done by the BBC as well.
The BBC ones unsurprisingly tended to be more slick but the ones produced by the ITV regions were a lot more of the nature of 'sod it, it's Christmas, let's have a laugh'.
Shameless plug but you can see a lot of Xmas tapes on my channel.
Who can forget the legendary "episode" of Rainbow? ;)
I was in the Olympic Comercail. I was the boy shooting the basketball. My dad actually played my dad in the Comercail. What are the chances of that!?!?
"Now, about that vodka..."
"Cut, Richard!"
😂😂😂😂😂
Richard Shull - the main actor in this commercial - was a decorated WWII veteran - Semper Fi my friend - He was in an episode of the ROCKFORD FILES - titled The Great Blue Lake Land and Development Company and played Fast Harry DeNova - you got to watch it
I was just going to ask who Richard was, because now I want to see his other movies and shows

Flying in the 80s sounds so glamorous. Lucky I live in Asia so I still get pretty good service here and a full meal on a 2 hour flight. United made commercials so wholesome. I really loved the soldier one.
The actor playing the United employee at 0:30 is Hal Williams, best known for his work on "Sanford and Son" and "227".
Yes, indeed, it is Hal Williams. He was also on "Good Times".
Thank you, I was about to start searching!
"And a big belt of vodka wouldn't hurt!"
😂😂😂
30 years later ...
United did always seem to excel themselves with their adverts compared to a few other carriers looking back, it is weird to see though from someone in the UK as airline advertisements or "commercials" were not particularly common after the start of the 1990s - mainly due to our flag carrier British Airways having killed off their larger competition and various other "quirks" with the aviation industry over here (airlines too small to pay for TV ads, prevalence of "Integrated Travel" companies/Tour Operators and of course the fact that we are about the same size as Florida...). Still, it's a great one from your archive Ben :)
MOAR!!! MOAR UNITED! MOAR AIRLINE!!!!
I like how he says to the lady “yes sir!” At 3:49
Today? “reeeeeeeeee it’s MAAM” 💀
That was a time people were dressed appropriately on flights.
"Appropriately," IMO, shouldn't be suit / tie / etc, IMO - one should not just dress comfortably (ESPECIALLY on long haul flights), but also for the destination (which I actually learned the hard way the last flight I took, to Florida, where I neglected to wear a t shirt and was broiling hot when I got to my aunt and uncle I was visiting).
LOL 3:31 "You must have been starvin'...". Yea, he'd have to be to polish off airline food----
Better than MRE’s… 😂
Let's not discuss Richard's crushing alcoholism.
🤣 he seems to function pretty well to me
@@fujifrontier oh he's definitely a functioning alcoholic 🤣
thats how you treat a custumer
I didn’t know Anne Murray was a flight attendant..
I think woman at 0:46 is friend of Michael Keaton or Teri Garr in Mr Mom...
These are classics...
Yes that's Miriam Flynn.
They must have cut out the part with the doctor getting beaten up
Late but that doctor was beaten on Continental not United
🧡❤️💙
Who are the actors in the commercial?
Richard B. Schull is the main character.
現在聯合和大陸航空變成一家公司!
