- My review of the 40mm Helson Shark Diver. Made and sold by Helson watch company.
For anyone interested in getting one head over to www.helsonwatch.com to take a look at the Shark Diver and their other collections.
The Nato strap I had on my Vostok was the Moto Italia from www.NatoStrapCo.com Best customer service I've ever had and the prices are outrageously low. If you ever need Nato's don't even bother looking elsewhere.

I'm have no affiliations with the businesses who's products I review nor do I get any of my watches for free for the purpose of reviewing unless otherwise noted. I'm a watch collector and WIS member of the Watchuseek forums who wanted to make a few videos and hopefully provide some fellow watch aficionados with a resource to get a better look at various watches. Thanks for watching!
Great review. After watching I picked up a 40mm for a WUS member. I'm pleased with the fit and finish. It's a quality piece and it wears well. I have a 7.0 wrist and it fits perfect.
I found the same with my 9015 powered shark diver. It would be + a few seconds while wearing it and by taking it off at night I could 'slow' it down to keep it spot on for the next day. Great watch.
the double ended screw bars are a little tricky! but you can never mess up your links so theres that, although you can easily scratch the case or the bracelet with a slipped driver
I have a Helson Blackbeard, which is designed similar to the Blancpain 50 fathoms. The 9015 holds up as well as any of my ETA 2824-2, in Squale or Steinhart watches.
They are very well built watches and mine came with the spare steel mesh bracelet on top of the rubber diving straps. They are expensive but sapphire bezels and such are not inexpensive.
The Blackbeard is quite different but it stands out. For daily wear I tend to stick to more thin watches. Still a great watch to have in the watch box.
I just binge watched all of this guy's video's like he was frikkin netflix! The video's were brilliant, concise and clear, and he obviously has a lot of watch knowledge. It's a terrible shame he disappeared, I hope he's doing well.
Great review J! I'll subscribe and look for your future reviews. Can't wait to hear your thoughts on the OM Explorer.
Beautiful watch, closely resembles the submariner. Will be picking this up soon.
Very good review - thank you, and very nice watch.
nice review. keep em coming!
Really nice review, thanks. Pretty sure this will be my next watch (and my first auto).
Perfect time to buy right now... They have 10% off on the Helson site until December 24th.
MystikEssence Helson has this sale every year around Christmas. You're absolutely right that it's a perfect time to buy. You can barely find them on the secondhand market for what Helson charges during the sale.
***** I did buy and am very happy with the watch, the sale price, and the speed with which it was shipped to the US.
with the same money and even less you can get a real swiss made diver watch like the certina ds action which is also iso compliant or a mido yes a mido, swiss brands are getting more and more available at reasonable prices and the quality and finishing are way better to these so called micros! if you need a diver stick to Seiko Prospex line or Citizen Promaster they have been manufacturing diver watches for decades and they know how to build quality divers at a very reasonable prices believe me I'm a diver and have used seiko and citizen divers since the 80s with a citizen ny0040 I got up to -95mts w/o a single problem, the same watch I read it was tested and endorsed by the italian frogmens (the best in the world) up to 500atm and it did pass (cost of the watch 140usd and is also iso compliant), I friend of mine got one of these helson sd, actuaslly it was a 2000mt model leaked while he was snorkeling, would never use one of these even in a swimming pool!
Just got the obris explorer 2 2015. Was wondering if I should attempt to trade my tissot Seastar 1000 powermatic 80 for one of these and sell my OM explorer2. Some minor things on the OM bother me. What do you think? Cheers.
Good job
Great review. I'd love to get a SD 40 but am worried it may be too small for my 7.25" wrist. Would you mind telling me what size your wrist is? Looks great-
My wrist is 6.5 inches. I think it would be fine on your wrist. If you're worried though, Helson does offer this watch in 42 & 45mm variants as well. Maybe the 42mm would be something to look at?
Thanks for watching!
***** Thanks! I have my SD 40 w/ sapphire bezel on right now and for the past 6 months :). Perfect for what I wanted personally, and this review was a big help. I watch your reviews often. Keep up the good work!
Don't forget the lugs are 49mm. I have a 7.25 inch wrist as well and the 40 is as big as I would ever go. No way could I wear a 42 or 45.
Sweet upload! Subbed!
Are Helson and armida watches the same? Just asking because they come in the same packaging. I'm looking to buy either or so just wanted to know.
No
I know this is not a rolex sub but why in the world does it have to look so similar. Im talking about the face. I hate rolex but they do have brand recognition and this watch although cool still looks so similar.
You are obviously right handed...why wear your watch on your right hand then ?
would you really want to take a $600 watch diving though?
Why not?
What are you talking about? It's designed for diving.
